You make an excellent point. Though MWIF Product 1 won't have scenarios that start after the tricolor came into use, Patton in Flames will. It should be added to the list of flag choices that ship with MWIF.

I was actually referring to the plain red-WHITE-black tricolor, which was in use up until 1935. The red-yellow-black was postwar.

Anyway, I will change anyone you put in MWiF to put one with the svastika, as I don't think that you fight ideas fighting their logos, while understanding that a professional computer software must obey to the laws of the countries in which it will be sold, even if they are silly.

I couldn't agree more. Is there a way Steve can make such modifying a little easier for non-programmer types?

All that would be required is to rename two files. The old German flag file gets an extra letter in its name or something. The one you want to use gets renamed "GermanFlag.BMP" or whatever name I end up calling it. You would have to acquire a BMP file of the German Flag you want to use, but someone should be able to provide that for download by the general public.

And as every one could have predicted, we have a tie so I have to make up my mind.

Just to confuse the issue, I have been working on taking all the different flags and trying them out in the game. I rewrote the code so it would take any size bitmap. I also changed it so the flag has an aspect ratio of 2:1 (the old was 8:7). Here is what Japan's flag looks like. The versions in Korea show that it is occupied territory. If I start with a rendering that is 2:1, the red will be a true circle and not an ellipse (does anyone have a bitmap of Japan's flag in 2:1?). Zoom level is 8.

The US and UK (Commonwealth).

Neither of these flags started as a 2:1 aspect ratio. They don't look too bad, but they could be improved if I start with a 2:1.

The Communists. The Communist Chinese flag looks pretty good. The USSR one doesn't. Both of these started as 2:1, so it is really just a question of findnig a USSR one that isn't so dark. The hammer and sickle need to be brighter. This screen shot includes Mongolia which is shown as a USSR ally.

In an earlier post I miswrote - the half white flag indicates a friendly aligned country, not occupied territory.

I do not have a flag for Nationalist China - anyone? 2:1 aspect ratio is best.

And what you have all been waiting for: France, Italy and Germany.

I took the Italian battle flag that Patrice provided, since the missing crown on the cross of the official flag wouldn't be visible anyway.

Czechoslovakia is aligned with Germany while Austria is simply part of Germany.

I'll do a couple more of these showing the Free Fench and Vichy France and some of the alternative German flags.

I might not get to that today though. I want to finish drawing the sea boxes - a higher priority.

Well, somebody predicted that the German cross would not be visible in the top stripe and he was right! Better outline the cross or put it in a circle or something.

Could you show us #2 just for kicks? I'm not changing my vote, but it is hard to tell it's a cross at this point.

Also, how about trying the Japanese flag with all the rays shooting out of the sun. I don't know the history, but we use that one in CB and I think it is really cool.

Flag #2 for me. I've seen similar in other games and it looks good.

I really perfer the #1 flag but agree that their really ought to be a white circle background for the cross. Sorry but I do not have any flags at a 2:1 ratio. I'll search the net and see what I find.
