My favorite experience as an exchange student in Germany was going to a Chineese resturaunt. We are speaking German with and English (or American) accent and the waiter is speaking German with a Chineese accent.
Knowing the frightening things that people from both of those countries eat I stuck with words that I was sure of the meanings of so as to avoid ordering the sweet and sour pigs balls covered in saurkraut.

Hi, When I was a very young Marine in Okinawa (17yo) I went into a night club and had the horrifing experiance of hearing a Japanese band playing Black Sabbath "Paranoid" and singing it in Japanese while the crowd of dancers did something that looked alot like line dancing (they were all doing the exact same steps, clapping their hands together and hopping in the air in unision) I've had nightmares about it ever since. (looked like the Electric slide only this was in 1974)
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

When I was in grad school, my advisor was Chinese, but he spoke with an Australian accent. Here's the rest of the story (it actually applies to WitP). Back when he was a kid (1930s?) he lived in Shanghai. His father owned a large shipping firm there. Shortly before the Japanese captured Shanghai, his father sent him to Australia where he spent many years, eventually getting his PhD in Genetics. He came to the US in 1960. Anyway, when the Japanese captured Shanghai, they grabbed all of his Dad's ships, for their merchant fleet. I'd love to find out what ships they snatched so I could track them and see how they do in my little PBEM war.[:D]

They were getting it while they could I guess...the last task force was pulling in to Subic as we were leaving. They shut the base down soon thereafter.

Of course, in some Scandinavian countries, young maidens eat deer nuts raw, right off the deer ...

Going overseas allowed me to sample many aspects of the local fair.

We must be talking a different "bar-fine". The bar fine I paid got you a full 24 hours.
Both times that I was in the PI, I frequented "The Sharks Cove". It was the fifth bar on the left that had a balcony (once you passed over the sh*t river bridge).
Oh man, the memories are just flooding back! [:D]
