I also don't understand why many people are offended by individualists, offended by individualistic thought, individualistic action. Well,

I'm only offended by those individualists who put themselves on a pedestal and say, "I and only I know the truth." It must be pure hell living amongst us mere mortals.

Why is it that when people criticize you, it's an "ad hominem" attack but when you do it, it's only for their betterment?Another shining example of "Do as I say, not as I do!"

You are content to sit behind your keyboard and lob criticism after criticism after criticism on GG's design yet offer nothing substantive for actually fixing it. "Land combat is broken!" "The air model is broken!" "Logisitics is broken!" "Naval combat is broken!" "ASW is broken!" "Japanese production is broken!"

IMO, the squeaky wheel doesn't get the grease, it just gets thrown on the junk pile.

We all know there are flaws and that various routines could have been implemented differently. We also know that Matrix has moved beyond any major redesigns. You are being given a chance to do that. What more could you want?
Steve, you bring ridicule, bad logic, and misstatements to the forum, this in an effort to attack someone personally. You offer nothing, you detract completely, and you act only for selfish purpose.

Back at ya, "buddy".

And don't forget; I'm out of control! Besides, I don't speak Latin.

To put it nicely, I found the latter person to be half-baked, touchy and mean spirited. So, for me and my effort nothing.

I only want the game to get better. Nothing else matters to me. Nothing.

I'm not sure if this whole 'design a new game' discussion isn't a red herring. I'm sure Mr.Frag is genuine in his offer, but it feels like something else that will be discussed around in circles until it fades away.

I'm far more interested in seeing the results of an AAR and the conclusions that could be drawn on the supply generation. This is something that could result in real changes.

TJ, you must know that nothing less than a demonstration - of your (and Ron's) contention that supply is too ample - will suffice? That is not unreasonable. If your statement above is true then actually playing it to demonstate your point should be your priority now.

I wouldn't know the first thing about writing a document someone might be able to produce code from. How could one judge that, anyway? Except on a case-by-case basis. I do, however, know a lot about wargames, and I have my own notions about the design of good wargames. My document would offer specific ideas. If a programmer couldn't understand what I wrote, then that would be that. A new programmer with better English skills would needed. But if sufficient money were there, and the programming talent was present, then my ideas could and would fly. Like so much else in life, it would then only be a matter of time.

If you doubt that, you're mistaken.

P.S. As an added bonus, my game system would also come with an intelligently-written manual, properly indexed, with extensive player and designer notes and a spiral binding.

Your latter thought will undoubtedly win the day, but were Ray serious (he is not, but just for the sake of argument) then all he'd need to do is work out the contract with me and put the money in escrow. And from there we could proceed.
I'm far more interested in seeing the results of an AAR and the conclusions that could be drawn on the supply generation. This is something that could result in real changes.

Actually it couldn't as Matrix isn't about to redesign the logsitics system, and that's what is required. It's cockeyed from A to Z. Tweaks won't cut it. (Though they wouldn't hurt, either, if implemented properly.)

Anyway, I've told Ron I'm willing, for whatever it's worth. We'll see.
TJ, you must know that nothing less than a demonstration - of your (and Ron's) contention that supply is too ample - will suffice? That is not unreasonable. If your statement above is true then actually playing it to demonstate your point should be your priority now.

It isn't just a case of supply being too ample, but the way it "forms" and where it comes from and how it's distributed and consumed. The entire logistics model is wrong. And it's all but hopless to even discuss this, as there are only two kinds of people who don't see it: those who cannot and those who don't wish to, and I'm helpless to do a thing about either one. Needless to say, you can also forget about anyone who does know but refuses to admit it publicly.

All that leaves is the . . . choir. [8|]

As I said, it's up to Ron now. If he's game, fine. If not, I guess we'll wait until el cid finishes his first draft of the RHS and then have a go at that. Maybe he, like Ford, has a better idea.

Jesus, you don't have a clue how to program "Hello, World!", do you? If then? Case statements? Loops?

Didn't think so.

ROFLMFAO, again. You are a regular, walking, talking idiot. IN THIS SAME THREAD, you blast GG about how he had his design document in his head and postulate that his lack of design is why WitP sucks. Now, you are proposing to do exactly the same thing.

Here'e a clue: I've been programming for 30 years. On the basis of that experience, let me tell you that you do not have the first clue what it takes to create your fantasy game. If anyone agreed to finance your game "ideas", they would spend millions and end up with something that needed to be put in the trash bin - not because the programmers suck, but because your design doesn't exist. You don't have the first clue how to build it from scratch, and all your protestations to Frag hide one thing: you don't have a clue what it takes to build a game. You won't create a document because you can't - and whatever you produced would require tons of rewriting/clarification before it could be handed over to a programmer.

Ewwww... a spiral binding! Gee, I got goose pimples. Look genius, have you ever thought about packaging a game, and more specifically, how much it costs to print the damn things? Have you ever thought that by using search in the e-book manual you have a more comprehensive index that any index you can provide in a printed manual? How much did you intend to charge for this fairy tale game? Have you considered the business plan inherent in a game that will sell at most 15,000 copies? What the hell do you do professionally, drive a taxi?

Oz,

Prior to over two decades in various software/technology companies I drove a taxi for a few years. It is an honorable profession and deserves the same respect as any other job. One of my few pet peeves is people who "put down" or think they are superior to anyone based upon their profession. People like this need to see the big picture in life.

I don't mean any offense to you, I am just stating my feelings.

Yes, cabbies come from all walks. You just never know.

A good friend of mine, who happens to be in the Book of Who's Who--the California book, anyway--used to drive taxi. Some twenty years total I think. His name is Burton Wolfe. Before he started hacking he was a journalist, and a damned good one. He started out in the Army writing for Stars and Stripes, then went on to AP after separation, and so forth. Eventually Burton turned freelance. Along the way he wrote a number of books, including the rather excellent The Hippies.

I met him when I managed a taxi company fifteen years ago. He wanted work and I gave it to him. By that time he had been blacklisted for suing various members of the local cab industry. Crazy Russian that he is, Wolfe about drove me nuts with complaints regarding the awful running condition of our vehicles, but he was a good, reliable cabbie nevertheless, and so I put up with it. He was dead right about the cars. They were terrible. But I could only do so much about that. I didn't own the company, only ran it for awhile.

And then there's the other side of that coin. There are liars, thieves, drunks, drug addicts, sex offenders, about every imaginable kind of sundry nut case, and a slough of generally untrustworthy and downright creepy people who also drive cabs. It isn't for everyone, what you might call a mixed bag.

Anyway, glad to meet a fellow cabbie--fellow former cabbie. But there's no need to come to my defense. I've not been harmed in any way. People like Oznoyng merely disappoint me; the people they actually hurt are themselves.

Your admonition was duly noted, though, and racked up over in the plus column. [:)]

TJ,

To set the record straight: I was not coming to your defense.

Too many people on this forum make a habbit of insulting each other. GOOD natured ribbing is fine and in fact enjoyable at times. I dislike personal attacks because usually the speaker has lost focus on his or her point. And when I saw what I took as a "dig" at cabbies I was just fed up. I have been both wealthy and poor in my lifetime but at no point have I lost respect for anyone doing a job (any job) to the best of their ability.

A persons character (or lack their of) defines them...not whatever profession they have.

Driving a taxi is not for everyone. But it is an excellent way to learn about people and that knowledge (people skills) transfers well into any other career.

Be well,

It seems to me these people you mention were also in charge of ENRON and MCI and a host of other companies that went down the drain...

Before I drove cab I was a journalist (I've been many things, truth be known), and that line of work, too, teaches one much about people. As least for a journalist like me, as I got out on the street and moved around. And you want to know something? This far down the line I've learned as much about human nature as I care to. After awhile it gets old.

I wouldn't drive at all any longer if there wasn't a legal requirement to do so in order for me to keep my taxi medallion, but there is, so I'm forced to put 200 hours in per annum to satisfy that. I've sworn more than once to chuck it, just move to Costa Rica and open up a gringo bar, but here I sit. You see, years ago I lived and worked in Spain, and I ended up missing America, or maybe it was chocolate malted milks I missed. Whatever it was I missed, I never want to have that feeling of wanting again.
