Oil Fields Damage...
Can any one tell me if im right... when japs capture a base with oil fields and some Allied engienners are present there they try to demolish the Oil Fields[:(] it some times fails and japs capture intact base and some times the Oil Fields are blown...and repairing of them costs 1000 suply per Oil point right??? any way maybe the designers can do something about it... look in the WWII the japs captured all DEI oil fields without any significant damage... why??? when the Dutch set some Oil fields on fire the japs made clear to them that if they will demolish other Oil Fields all Dutchmen captured POW or not will be killed... thats why the Dutch didn't demolished their OIL field on Java and Sumatra[:D]

When Japan captures an oil field there is a diceroll to see how much damage there is. The effect ot this roll is directly linked to the number of engineers present in the hex. The only way to reduce the effct of a bad diceroll is to DISABLE/DESTROY the engineers before capturing that hex.....
SO:
BOMB, SHELL and BOMBARD defending units and then do it some more, before capturing a oilfield.
NO or FEW (ABLE) engeneers in a hex = nobody to blow up the well's [;)]

RE: Oil Fields Damage...
If you bombard the ground unit for a while before actually capturing the base, you can often capture the oil intact. Bomb with planes. Shell with your ships. Bombard with your LCUs.
THEN attack.
I'll hand it to one of my PBEM opponents (LtFightr), he's done an excellent job of capturing the oil in SRA intact.
Of course, you can do everything right (as Japan), and still get screwed. Erstad shelled and bombed Palembang for about 3 weeks before going for the kill. My Engineer units still nuked the place; only 250 oil of the 900(?) survived.
Shell and bombard before you go it. It will help a lot. But it's not a guarentee.

Three things that help Japan to take oil or ressources intact:
_ disable as much Allied engineers you can, the best being BB bombardments to do that
_ bring many Eng yourselves (Eng Rgt or Const Bn), in my own experience they held to reduce the damage.
_ launch deliberate attacks and not shock attacks, agains damaged seems to be lowere in same circonstances.

HEEE, I am ONLY 29, if I would have been alive (1 year old [;)] ) during Market Garden I would have been 63 by now.... Do not not think many 60 + year olds on this forum....
People here, still are very gratefull of the Poles and their role in MG. They also think that Gen Sosabowski was ill treated after the war, and they presented him phostumely with a Royal medal (his son took it instead) only last year.

RE: Oil Fields Damage...
Nope..the ability to set oil facilities alight manually. I could see it now. turn 1.....hostilities open.....turn 2.....WHHOOOOOOSH Suddenly the WitP map is obscured by massive oil fires all over the SRA. [:D] Turn 3: Japan gives up in disgust.....tells the Americans PH was a mistake....they were supposed to be attacking with dummy weapons.

RE: Oil Fields Damage...
Actually the truth is between all oilfields seized intact and all destroyed as in Sadaam's dream. I don't know the state of DEI oilfields once they were seized but I knwo that in early May 1942 an American submarine sank the transport loaded with most of the Japanese engineers needed to restart them, and it was a major backdraw for Japanese economy.
As for destroying oilfields and ressource centers, HI and so on, I will say OK but this should cost PPs. Asking engineers to destroy their own tools is always difficult.
On the other hand there should be an option to stop the output of any oil or ressource center.

RE: Oil Fields Damage...
Too gamey IMHO. The Allied player knows that short of complete ignorance of the game or some alternate strategy, the SRA will always fall.....and as such would always choose to destroy the resource centers as soon as possible. I think the current rule works best....the Allied player can influence it, but not directly control it.
My Engineers did a good job in my current game with Speedy....75% disabled at Palembang....that will take some hefty supply to fix [:D]

Yes. That's the heaviest Palembang has been damaged in any of the games i've played. To compensate I will capture the entire Pacific basin to keep the war progressing [:D]

Nik? Sink my tankers?!?[:D]
Frag i'm glad you're back with your comedy [;)]
My ultra ASW methods will dispatch any Allied sub brave enough to enter my defensive perimeter. As it stands every Allied sub has fled the SRA after my initial assault and dedicated ASW efforts. Nik knows he's doomed to failure....it's written on the wall.

Heh - there was a thread (not The Thread) a while back about the "oldest" guy on the Forum. i figured i'd be a cinch to take it - but i wasn't even close at 53 (then). Lots of older-than-me folks on the Forum, and more than a couple over 60. i forget who took "oldest" but i think he was in his seventies...
