How do you load troops onto ships

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

How do you load troops onto ships

I just got Crown of Glory and love it. I already have Pacific War and Normandy which are also great games. I am starting a campaign as the british and I cant seems to figure out how get my troops on the ships so I can invade Europe.

First move the ships to the province your troops are located in (Place fleet on land). Then click on the troops and point to the fleet and click again, the'll load automatically. Next turn you can move them. Be aware that you cannot reload your troops from an enemy controled province(ships won't "land"). So if you get into trouble make sure you leave yourself a way out.

Also note that you can't have more divisions than you do ships.

I am not sure, as I am not much of a seapower player
but looks like you can load a corp or a army into a fleet with a transport, but not a army with a corp

so if you want to send a lot of troops, you need more then one fleet

I made a fleet with 6 Transports, and it wouldn't load any more then a fleet with 1 transport

so, break the Armies down into single containers, and then click on them, when you get the fleet icon, it should change into a white arrow, meaning you can place it into that container

if the troops are going to be at sea between turns, make sure you plan on putting Depots close by, lots of troops starve at sea

hopefully some one else can give it in better details

Transports aren't any different than other ships when it comes to their ability to transport troops. For game purposes, transports are very poor fighters whose only real function is to increase the transport capacity of a fleet. Containers (corps/armies) shouldn't affect the transport limit of a fleet (if they do, please let me know!)

From what I've read, in the Napoleonic period, the few times there were dedicated troop transport ships they were mostly just converted merchant ships temporarily being used for this purpose.

Ahhh
from my landings in England, that is what I was having to do ?

a fleet with 6 transports would only load one Corps size unit

a fleet with 1 transport would load one Corps size unit

I could not load a Army with a Corps attached

I had a Army with 2 Corps and then the rest of the Army filled in, had to make 3 trips, break the Army down and then rebuild it

something changed ? I remember long time ago as England I could load a full Army into a fleet

if 1.2.17 saves still work, I can go back in and play around with the fleets some more

I've not run into any of these issues myself.

I just pay attention to the transport capacity number, under the fleet info, and fill it up with appropriate sized containers.

With your English fleet, was it full sized at 15 ships? An unnoticed 3 ship difference may explain why you were successful. <shrug>

too long ago to remember

since I been in the beta, I only play as France and the 1792 campaign

(so my fleet size is 12)

unreal, funny how many times, "common sense" takes over in a game, I didn't have any transports left in my fleet, so I would not even try to put troops into it, who would of thought that a fleet could transport troops with them

LOL

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe transports function any different than any other type of naval unit when it comes to carrying troops. It's just that they're a cheaper way to add cargo capacity, with the penalty that they don't help you much in combat situations.

I've found that the key to successful naval transport is to take things slowly. Because of the complexity involved in getting the land unit orders to mesh with the naval unit orders, I never issue orders to load, then move the same turn.

YOu can sail a fleet into port and load it on that same turn(I do this with the Hanoverians often)...it seems to work most of the time for me. But I wouldn't try to load and sail away on the same turn.

I have sailed into port (Genoa) loaded and set off again, and dropped off in Corsica, all in one turn.

Usually however, I find my fleet one or two zones/steps short of where I hoped it would be..... the number of cavalry mounts I have lost during slow crossings to Egypt because I did not have a handy sea depot.......[8|]

I think loading men onto ships should be done on a simple Divisions <= total Transport Capacity of the fleet. Who cares how you arrange your divisions? Whether I shove 6 divisions into 6 corps or into 1 army, it should still be the same. I don't like to have to micromanage something when it could be more easily (and realistic too I might add - same no. of men, same no. of ships!) abstracted.
