ABDA COMMUNIQUE: 24 Jan 1942: The Japanese landed at Maumere and Bali today. Heavy enemy losses are reported. Air attacks on the enemy fleet near Bali scored a torpedo hit on the large battleship Yamato damaging her heavily. American heavy bombers again blasted the enemy's toehold at Koepang on the island of Timor wrecking the airbase there. Heavy fighting in Singapore continues as the Japanese attempt to expand their small bridgehead on the North shore. Thousands of fanatical Japanese soldiers lie dead and unburied in front of our main positions.

Southern Army HQ update

'Further gains made in Singerpore. Large enemy losses reported.

Heavy civilian causalties at Kupang, as a result of indiscriminate terror bombing.

Landings made near Java, scurrilous enemy propaganda reports on the Yamato can be discounted - the Imperial battleship remains unscathed and is assisting in the liberation of the DEI'
