2ndAcr vs rroberson Nik Mod 5.0
Well, it has been awhile since I did an AAR and this will be my first since my return from Iraq. I have decided to play Nik's Mod, because I really like what he has done with A2A and the AA routines.
My task is clear.............destroy the Allied forces and make them beg for mercy.[:D]
Any and all comments are welcome. Even my esteemed opponent is welcome to post here if he so chooses to. But I may delay some posts or strategies for security reasons.
Let the war commence.

I culled out alot of the unimportant and redundant combat text to shorten the post. I can say that I really hate subs. And that is the main reason why I went for Manila. I believe I had a solid 15 subs sunk in that attack. With quite a few more damaged. 25 subs hit in all.[:D]
I landed paratroops on Lingayan and Batan island which took their objectives with light losses. Wake island always manages to hit me hard with CD gunfire. Hopefully, all damaged ships will make port.
I have made moderate changes to my industry and some repair yards. And since I did not say before, I am playing with PDU on but with restrictions. But since Nik has lowered the replacement rate for B17's, hopefully we will not have the 400 plane formations in early 42.

Ah, the Manila gambit. Gotta try that sometime. 25 subs hit for a loss of 5 planes from KB. Very nice.[:D]

at 16 examples a month.....no, i dont think you have to worry about 400+ H. bomber fleets in 42 [;)]
RE: 2ndAcr vs rroberson Nik Mod 5.0
I really enjoy the Manila attack. Not only do I get to pound the dreaded subs, I lose few a/c and put KB in the thick of things right from the start. Of course with the adjusted flak values now, I do take alot of damaged a/c. In the stock scenario, I could hit Manila, do the same damage and escape with virtually no loss or damage. Not now.
I choose to leave my opponents with a bunch of torpedo magnets. Maybe they will actually come out and play with my.[X(]

Welcome back 2ndACR ! .. hope your tour was less hairy than a freind of mine had with the brits last summer ( and he was a civvie ! )
I have often thougth that manilla was a good first day attack too for your very same reasoning too . although i have yet to try a pbem as Japs to be honest ( im a coward) [;)]> that flood of allied subs into the S.China sea was good fun as allies.
If you are playing version 5.0 .. i believe Nik has reduced the flak in the PI and malaysia somewhat.
anyway good luck ! .. you doing 1 or 2 day turns ?

1 day turns always.[:-] I am a bit of a micromanagement freak.[X(]
But I do have everything down to where a turn might last me all of 20 minutes or 2 hours for a massive re-deploy.
My tour was not too hairy, but there are always times that make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. Thanks for the welcome back.
This is the first time I have really tried Nik's mods, but I know I hit Singapore during a dry run on day 2 and had 60 Nells damaged by flak at 15,000 feet.[X(] So if that is toned down, mercy.

I thought Nik's flak mod increased the effectiveness of flak, not reduce it.
Oh, and I don't like the Manila gambit...really stretches the history by having PH left alone because only BBs are there. BBs and CVs were the targets of the attack, the fact that the CVs were not there does not diminish that BBs and CVs were the top targets in the USN arsenal, not subs. I agree to LBA being used against Manila/Cavite and Singapore (port attacks on turn one) and even any CVL attack on ports in PI, but KB has to hit PH.

2ndACR is refering to the "toning down" of Nik's AA mod from version 4.2 to 5.0. To be specific Nik didn't tone down the AA, just reduced the load outs in SRA to prevent flak cities from being formed at Sig,Manila, and Java
Overall though Ron is right, the flak was increased in Nik's mod as opposed to the stock game

RE: 2ndAcr vs rroberson Nik Mod 5.0
Well, I always thought hitting all those targets on turn 1 would be gamey as heck.[:-]
So I restrict myself to 1 port attack only on turn 1. Of course I could just go on a CV hunt on turn 1.[X(] They are the target after all. But I do not. I choose on port and hit it. I as the Japanese high commander have chosen to keep KB in the area of operations and to prevent the vaunted American Pacific Fleet from sailing to help the PI.[8|] I so wish one would sail to help them.[:D]
I love history as much as you do, but in this game, I am out to prove that I could have done better than the Japanese if i had been in charge. Or should I say, I want to do better than they did. Yes, I have hindsight, as does the Allied player.

RE: 2ndAcr vs rroberson Nik Mod 5.0
Well, another bunch of ships died today fleeing the PI. Let the duck hunt begin!
Force Z has been sighted sailing halfway between Singapore and Kuching. I am trying to decide whether he is going to flee or try and disrupt my landings at Kuching. Of course alot of my nells from Saigon decided to hit a couple AP's in Singapore instead.[8|]

Now for the AAR.....................Another fruitful day of hunting down the fleeing Allies. And boy, are they fleeing.[8|]
Rob is getting gutsy near Wake with his CV's and managed to bang up 2 CL's..............but will he stick around or maybe come closer? That is the question. Wonder if 2-3 CV's of mine are not doing a speed run and passing Saipan right now? Wonder how many Nells/Betty's I have packed into Kawajalain? Time will tell.[X(]
