2. it is possible to cheat in current game too (for Japanese). Change accuracy of naval guns, bombs and torpedoes, put 5000000 oil in Japan and 1000000 supplies at Truk, Canton, Hanoi etc. (device trick was done to me once, it’s my guess). Many of us play CHS, or other mods so there is no way to know if we play "stock" CHS or "edited" CHS.

Yeah that's great.

But did you find the extra life under the rock in Brisbane, or the monk that gives you the power-up for IJN oilers in Palau?

On a more serious note. The developer feels VERY strongly about this issue to the point of recoding the file format of saves if anyone even thinks hard about putting out an editor.

Well it's been possible for quite a while for the Japanese player to cheat by altering the pwhex.dat file but I haven't noticed the developers changing the format of that file. [&:]

It WOULD be simple to code but since it's not going to be done this is a useless thread and once again don't appreciate your flippant attitude of blowing people off all the time.

Whatever Dereck. I guess the fact that I've been coding equally long in the IT business means I can't be annoyed when people belittle developers?

As my old man used to say, if it's so darn easy, everyone would be rich ...

Torontonian

Is that what you call 'em?

That sounds way cooler than "Canadian".

Then again, folks around here get a little irate when you call them "Tampans".

"TRULY TORONTONIAN

I recently read an article by a writer from Vancouver, who feels that Torontonians think too much of themselves (The Trouble with Torontonians Wed July 19, 1995). I’m not a long-term resident of Toronto, so I waited for some die-hard Torontonian to defend the dignity and honour of this great city. Since that did not happen, I have now taken up cudgels on behalf of those, who like me, love Toronto"
http://www.raheelraza.com/Torontonian.htm

Most non-Torontonian Canadian have a much more colourful way term to describe residents of Toronto.

It makes me feel...

Probably about the same as you feel about rock/mud slides, earthquakes, a not seeing the sun for months at a time. [;)]

Down here, if the hurricanes don't get ya, the senile blue-haired old lady driving a Buick will.

Yeah, she got my best friend and I down in Crystal River a long time ago. We were driving into town for some diving when she pulled out of the Thursday afternoon bingo session at the Catholic church. His truck was totalled. We had to pay for a taxi ride to Tampa/St Pete airport and flights home.

Personally, I am tired of the long rainy seasons up here, but financial reasons keep me here. I do laugh at those who build on questionable slopes and then scream bloody murder when their houses slide with the rest of the hill. Kind of like those who build fancy houses on barrier islands and then cry when a hurricane destroys thsoe fancy houses... I have a real estate friend who wanted me to purchase a piece of property in the Nisqually valley last fall. I told him "No way would I even look at a house on a flood plain." Sure enough, for the past week or so, that house is in the Nisqually River...

One easy way off the top of my head (while driving from home to my night class) would to have the game encrypt only PBEM games from the start. Then there wouldn't be any need to worry about someone going in and finding what byte to switch or whatnot.

Games with the AI as an opponent would be able to be edited then with an editor.

The developer of this game actually own the profits rights for antacid use of strategic war games. It is far more profitable part of the business then selling the game. If they fix the game, they would loose all this source of income.[:D]

There were a few states that I drove thru during my summer trip where the drivers were just incompetent. Minnesota/Wisconsin was bad, but Florida drivers were the worst. In all seriousness, driving in Florida is gambling with your life 'cause none of the natives have a clue what they are doing driving a car.

Interestingly, Florida was also the only state where there was a broken down vehicle on the side of the highway every couple of miles. I drove down the east coast and up the west coast of the state and everywhere in the state there was a dead car on the side of the road every couple of miles. Except Miami. In Miami they were every 100 to 200 yards.

No ...

You get an email, it has a save attached. You save the file to two different locations. One you play with, the other you open in the editor and screw with. Pretty simple stuff.

It would have the same effect as me posting your game password ... once I did, would you want to continue to play a PBEM game knowing the other player can now see all your moves?

Data is data is data ... once you have access to it, it can not be taken away.

Seems as if the "fix" for this wouldn't be that hard. To edit something "in Game" would just have to require both players input. Any time one player "opened" the DB, it would send a "flag" to the other.
If you've both discussed a "problem" that needs dealing with, you both input the same "fix". And if you get a turn with a "flag" and no mention of a problem from your opponant..., you will know you are dealing with a "scumbag" and can take the appropriate measures.

For those who assume that everyone will look over their opponants OB and dispositions while the Editor is opened, they can balance the need to "fix" a problem with the knowledge that BOTH players will have an opportunity to check the other's database. As long as both sides get the same opportunity/suffer the same loss of security, it's not really unfair. And it will make sure that only important problems are "fixed on the spot".

Whoa there, pardner. I'll have you know until I moved to South Georgia I was a 5th generation Floridian - and I can tell you that most of the natives down there aren't there anymore. The whole place has been taken over by immigrants from New Michapennsyltucky. It's almost absurd. You have to drive North to get back South from Florida.

How about this then. The forward and rear Florida license plates create and channel between them a "Driver Stupidity Field". Anyone in between a matching pair of Florida plates loses the ability to drive safely or compentantly. That better? [:'(]
