bomb penetration question

Post by lancer »

Goodaye,

Fairly new to the game and I'm a little perplexed over how the penetration system works. A Shokaku class carrier with a deck armour of 50 got hit eight times by 1000lb General Purpose bombs from a flight of Dauntless's. I found some information in the forums that shows the penetration value of the 1000lb GP bomb to be 70.

None of the bombs succeeded in penetrating the deck armour even though they had a penetration value of 70 and the armour was only 50. The game doesn't seem to calculate it as a straight comparison so how does it work and what other factors, if any, come into it?

Some help on this would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Lancer

Are you sure it was 1000lb not 500lb? Or may be it was belt hit?
1000 lb penetrates everything but BB.

there is a random as well, shokaku class had thicker armor than game this says!it is how they lasted so many bomb hits in battles during the war!!

1000lb GP bombs always penetrate Shokaku's deck armor, most likely you were flying at extended range and had 500lb bombs. OR you were incredibly unlucky and managed to get belt hits on all 8 occasions. (near misses and very high angle glancing hits)

Goodaye,

Yep, extended range is probably the culprit, hence 500lb bombs not 1000lb. I can safely assume then that the penetration value is a direct comparision with the armour value with perhaps a small random factor thrown in.

Thanks for your help.

no random. The device penetration value is compared to the armor value of the hit location. Device penetration value must be higher to penetrate.
