ORIGINAL: PzB

I just lost Nanning and 25k troops because I didn't notice that the hex to the west was Japanese owned 'J' [8|]
So 2 divisions couldn't retreat because of some invisible force field around my base. No wonder land combat gives
me the hickups....

Should you be lurking in here?[8D]

Hehehehe nice to see you lurker !!!

I have tried to set the location as a base but if he can geta unit in that hex before me then I am surrounded and cutoff.

As a precaution I am going to start flying a UK Div to Chungking as I stripped it a little for the fight on the other side of the map.

You got two 'Allied strike back/Revenge of the Allies' threads on this forum Andy, I have too look both two and three times before
entering this one [;)]

I think a surrounded force should be allowed to attempt a breakout - if they successfully shock attack through the ring of defenders
around them they should be allowed to move out of the hex although taking heavy casualties.

Hmmm Pauk neglected to leave a unit in the rail escape hex and elements of my army moved into it.

He should have left a unit there.

Lucky for me actually as the road to chungking would be open otherwise.

I agree on surrounded units.

I managed to retake Baker Island that really only leaves Narau and Tarawa itself its weird that he is letting me retake these islands.

p.s. nice sig those are BIG guns .....

I have a 4 BB TF closing on Tarawa along with an Armoured Bn.

If I can take the island he will neeed to be carefull. It really accelerates the allied advance having forward bases for LBA. Add to that security for LOC and its not a great trade. Perth for CENTPAC not a choice I would make

RE: KB Inbound RED ALERT

Post by Andy Mac »

Once again a reasonable turn IJN reaction in the Gilberts as the first enemy aircraft appear damaging some empty transports.

Hornet is nearbye so lets see what happens

Landings on Tarawa soon

Perth still stands but it wont be long...

My main issue is that once again we are fighting in China I detest japanese attempts to starve the theatre but he targets resources again. I should have asked for a quiet China houserule ah well to late now Ill go on trying to send another message today a B17 Gp sent in to flatten HK's repair yard again.

Im picking a target he will repair to try and get him to back off a little we all now China can be rolled over by the IJA big deal.

I got very very lucky at Changsa.

My entire army slotted into the gap left by Pauks troops as they retreated.

A lucky escape

Post by Andy Mac »

I am going to trim this report down a little but I got lucky in China as most of my army managed to get out of the pocket in one piece.

Had Pauk left a single unit in that hex I would have been sunk !!!

4 main theatres in operation at the moment

1. China after my mistake and lucky escape its going quiet. My attempted raid on Hong Kong was a fiasco and the B17's got caught onm the ground so I have withdrawn them.

2. Gilberts Hornet is escorting in 25000 men for the final assault and garrison on Tarawa the BB's go in again tonight to prep the way.

3. Perth Pauk is in trouble and doesnt even realise it !!!!. Thats two attacks in aq row that have failed to lower the forts my troops are 100% prepped and without air or BB support im not sure he can take the place. Aus Command is now in range and about 30% prepped for Perth adding to my fighting qualities. (A Command HQ with a good leader makes a huge difference to the fighting ability of troops!!!!). I am attacking his blocking force but it wont shift because it has no where to retreat to. 6th Aus Cav Bde is trying to clear the rail line

I was initially dissapointed when he hit Perth as I had 300,000 tonnes of supply stockpiled there which I thought he would capture But actually what its doing is keeping my troops at 100% ready to fight and my men get stronger every day as 4th USMC recieves reinforcements. Of course a 3rd wave could arrive any day to make my predictions worthless.

4. North Australia I dont like all the attention Derby is getting. A few weeks ago I sent 1st Aus Corps to the North Coast (this was my primary reserve) I was going to send them to Perth but given the fighting qualities of my troops in that besieged city I think I will hold them closer to the North Coast to cover Darwin/Derby.

Perth cannot be it ? That cannot be the only offensive Pauk was going to launch no moves to PM or New Cal and I am making progress in the Gilberts....no move towards Akyab or India its weird Perth cannot be it ...... can it ?

I am paying particular attention to my South and East Coast defences in Australia and to NZ's North Island

My Sigint is useless again but he has to strike soon the Zero bonus is soon to end .

<Late Edit Pauk is a skilled opponent and has caused me major problems especially in the 1st phase but I just don't understand why he is letting me get ashore in strength in the Gilberts if I take Tarawa then CENTPAC could be a major headache in 2 months time>

Hmmm Derby gets a lot more attention.

I am gettign slightly concerned about the total lack of reaction from Pauk in the Gilberts.

He cannot be that strapped for units that he isnt reinforcing and if he is where are the rest of his forces is he really going to let me secure Tarawa ?

RE: A lucky escape

Post by Andy Mac »

Hmmmm the inability of my forces to clear a passage through to Perth is gettign annoying the unit just wont retreat despite multiple attacks at greater than 5:1 so my relieving force cannot force a way through.

Tarawa goes well.

Pauk undoubtadley won the 1st stage after his incredible job in SRA and Burma but this phase appears to be more even

Hehe na he was so committed to Perth and by the looks of it north Aus that I had to do something !!!

He wont be able to retake Tarawa I have 2 Divs ashore at Tarawa and plenty of LBA to bring in when my AF's get built and the hex is mined.

Overall it can only be baby KB plus the 2 slow CV's and with the force committed in Aus I just dont see him having the combat power to take tarawa off of me.

The gilberts are only an over reach if I lose my US CV's in 2 more months I will have 6 USN CV's and 2 RN CV's (with Seafires) now as long as that force is intact he doesnt have that much of a chance of taking the Gilberts from me.

We are in May 42 it will take months for him to redeploy out of Australia.

I think he has made a mistake getting overcommitted to a sideshow even if he does take perth and the whole of North Australia.

But time will tell. The zero bonus is gone and I have 70 fresh fighters on Tarawa
