You have to click on the dot base to bring up the base information screen. The mouse over doesn't give enough information on dot bases (maybe considers them unsurveyed?).

I have a good suggestion for WitP part deux (WitP2) if anyone decides to take on the task. In regards to the dot bases perhaps a mechansim could be programmed in to randomize the maximum size of bases. Hence the need to survey dots instead of having foreknowledge of what the good base locations are.

IRL the Japanese occupied Tulagi to establish a seaplane base and it wasn't till after they arrived and surveyed Guadacanal that they decided to build an airstrip. Another good example is the field at Dobodura. IRL the Japanese never realized the potential of the fields there, whereas Allied Engineers had discovered them and established a very significant airbase.

I realize that the historicity would no longer apply but it would reintroduce an element of FOW and potentially slow down the pace of operations.

for sea and ocean names try font Monotype Corsiva, I don't know if it is the same font that Subchaser used but looks very, very similar... and if you have MS Office, you should have this font already

It is confirmed. Subcahser in fact used Monotype Corsiva. It resides in the "C" section of the font drop down window of Photoshop. That is a "money" font for bodies of water...

Very nice work. That map looks much more user friendly and pleasing to the eye than the official game maps.

Andrew,

What are the yellow bases and units - is that the new color for Japan? If so, wht will be the color for China?

No, that colour is just what I use for the ANZAC units in my personal icon set (it is meant to be a sort of "khaki" colour). It is nothing to do with the map so please ignore it.

But how is this going to work when the dot base is one from the enemy?
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

It doesn't! How can you survey an enemy base?!

Andrew, "Bloody Shambles" mentions that the RAAF Hudsons were attacking Japanese shipping at Menado from both Ambon(ia) and Namlea. Has there been any thought to increasing the airfield size at Namlea (maybe a 2(4) with no base force)?

Interesting! One day I am going to buy those books...

I guess I should look at changing it.

I made a mistake. Try a 2(1) with no base force...

Good catch. I've threatened to look into that ever since Andrew first told us he didn't know what that font was, but I never got around to it somehow. I've always thought Subchaser's map was the best by a mile, and the most utilitarian, too, with those colorerd icons to denote at a glance resources and such.

Are you finally done with your art yet? If so, I'd love to load the new files and look at them. I'm out of date here by at least six months.

Thanks for the link.

I realize he'll always be working on this stuff as far as that goes; what I wondered was whether or not he'd finished all the main planes yet, as opposed to any exotic types left on the wish list by various modders, plus the inevitable reworking of the main art files extant.

The set I linked to was for stock art only. He found a few minor snafus but I use them and am happy.

I think he is still working on the requests and the CHS stuff.

He does great work. I love look at his plane art. I wonder where he gets the energy. (I'm kind of like that with photographs, though, spending hours sometimes with a difficult situation in Photoshop, then looking up all of sudden to wonder where the day went! [:)]

How is the lovely map coming along Andrew? I'm itching to try Niks new mod, but don't want to start until the map is ready, and his mod converted.

Indeed TJ, you are right. I will probably never finsih working on them. Currently I have the original CHS Palettes of Allied anf Jap tops, and a newer Stock versions derived from them. Additionally I maintain a seperate set of palettes for Alikchi's IS2 Mod, and Gary Childress' Mod. Of late I have been on an Art hiatus, though I intend to re-release the Stock set with some fixes to the Snafus Rogue alluded to. Quite embarrassing, that.

I appreciate the support as usual. The state of the tops is that all aircraft, fantasy or otherwise, are complete except the russians. There are several late war Soviet aircraft that have not been re-done yet. They will be done eventually, but for now I am recharging my creative battery and enjoying the extra time[;)]

When Michelangelo was painting the Sistine Chapel do you think Pope Julius II asked him how long till it was finished....probably... but thats not the point....don't distract the master.

He sent us version 5 last night...he's going to make a formal announcement next week (he's out of town until then)

He has yet to convert the scenarios to the new map version and explain it all on his site.

I'm surprised that alot of folks have not updated the art files to your tops and are still going with the Hasbro jobs that came with the game.[8D]
