PBEM Up and Running?

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

PBEM Up and Running?

Post by Mike Carroll »

OK I am ready to take a break from WITP and WPO. Well not a break just try something different.

I am currently playing against the AI. I have upgraded to 2.18 Beta. Is the PBEM part of the game working? I am not quite ready to try one yet but would like to in the near future.

I am unable to play the TCP or whatever you call it, PBEM is the only option for multiplayer. I would like to hear if this is viable yet. From reading the forums it appears to have many problems right now.

Yeah and PBEM seems to be the stablest option for a MP game too.

We had a 7 player PBEM game going back in Dec, which we stopped due to the arrival of a new beta patch. Maybe we could kick start one up again? I'd be all for it!

Of course this probably should be advertised in the Opponents Wanted section.

Yeah I was going to play against the AI for another week or two to make sure I have the basics then look for a PBEM.

I got the last one up and running in December, and tentatively organized the timezone-based one later on, but patches are still coming frequently enough that I can't see how to justify starting one - by the time you made any progress, everyone would be needing to choose between continuing the PBEM or upgrading their version.

That is a concern for me as well. I did not even start playing WITP PBEM until a year after it was released. This was not by design, it is just such a massive game that I was intimidated by it for awhile.[:D] But that worked out well because the game works well now despite all the complaints.

Well I would like to get in one sometime in the near future but we will see about the status of patches.

Please count me in for a PBeM game, when everyone is satisfied with the games's status.

I am not enamoured of the quick-battle only feature for PBeM, but since everyone is hampered by it evenly, perhaps the game will play out well. My concern is that in quick battle no one can successfully tangle with the french at anywhere near even numbers, so there might be a tendency to "gang up" on the French - like, say, 7 to 1 [:'(]
