Transport/Cargo TFs Disbanding At Mare Isl.

Post by NAVMAN »

Greetings,
I have been playing the WPO Phase I scen as the US. No probs till approx. 9/22 then I
noticed the following:
I would form a trans/cargo tf at Mare Isl. w/ a destination of Pearl Harbor. The tf
would consist of 1 DD and 4 AKs. When I checked the next turn, the AKs had disbanded
and returned to anchor(not docked) and the escort would be on its way to Pearl.
This would happen no matter what the destination for any trans/cargo tf formed at Mare Isl.
The other bases worked ok. When I set up a cargo/trans tf as a computer controlled,
routine convoy, no probs. I don't recall seeing this happen in UV.
Any ideas?
Thx.

Do you have any area under computer control? Specifically the Western area?

Tankerace,
Thx for the prompt reply. Here is how the areas are set up:
Human Control: East, South.
Computer Controlled: SW, SE, West, NW, NE.
Interesting that the prob is only w/ Mare Isl and that the other west coast bases
function normally. Also, I haver not changed the control settings since the start
of the game and Mare Isl functioned normally till 9/22.
Thx for your help.

That's probably what ti is then. Sometimes, the AI likes to have transports for things, so it will remove them from task forces if it doesn't want you to have them. Just turn off computer control, form the TF, let it sail, then turn computer control back on, and it should be fine.

Hi Tankerace,
I went ahead and switched all areas to human control and that solved the problem.
I then worked back till I was able to form and execute the supply missions with
four areas under human control and the rest under computer control.
What effect will changing control back and forth have on activities that the computer
is conducting, eg: if the computer forms a tf in a computer controlled area and then
I switch that area to human control, is there any effect on that tf or anything else
that was in progress in that area?
Is this something that can be addressed in a future patch.
Also, and excuse my lack of knowledge, but can you explain how I perform a "save"
in case I need to send you something?
Thx for your help!

Ok,

First it is a feature really, not something that needs to be addressed. The whole point of having areas under computer control is to allow new players to manage their areas, without having to take on the entire thing at once. So for instance, you can just play in the far western theater, and have the AI run China for you. As such, the computer thinks it has precedence in the area that it is on, and will override your wishes. So if you form a task force, but the AI wants/needs those ships elsewhere, it will simply disband them. That's why it can be a pain in the neck, but it does help new guys get settled into the game.

As to the TFs, they will proceed normally irregardless of you switching the computer control on or off, BUT, if you turn it on, and it has a home base in that area, then there is a chance that the computer will override your orders as it wants those ships for other duties.

As to performing a save, I mean when you save the game. For instance, when you are through playing for the session, and you click the save button to save the game, when I say send me a save, I mean email me the saved game. So, if you save in slot 002, then the file would be "wpo002.sav". To email it to me, most email programs have a place where you attach files, and just attach it to me in an email with a description of the problem. It sounds like you have it figured out, so no need to send a save for this one.
