Training

Crown of Glory: Europe in the Age of Napoleon, the player controls one of the crowned potentates of Europe in the Napoleonic Era, wielding authority over his nation's military strategy, economic development, diplomatic relations, and social organization. It is a very thorough simulation of the entire Napoleonic Era - spanning from 1799 to 1820, from the dockyards in Lisbon to the frozen wastes of Holy Mother Russia.

Training

How does training actually work?

Do you get to select what training your units receive, or when you get the upgrade it automatically applies for all units?

I have heard people mention that they can select which upgrades to get, but when does this occur? Is it random, or do you build more barracks and it relates to that? Or does it have anything to do with your draft settings and months of training?

cheers

HI Mantis,
EVery change of season you get a chance to upgrade. What happens is a pop-up arrives on the left half of your screen when you end that turn. I can remember that these occur in January and October but I can't remember the others.
On this pop-up menu will be a list of upgrades to choose...along with some cool pictures. The list isn't complete on any given opportunity to upgrade so sometimes you have to select lessor options till the one you want arrives. For instance, whenever I play France it seems to take forever for a naval upgrade to arrive(that could just be my bad luck, too). If you place your cursor over the lettering of the upgrade you'll get a brief description of what the upgrade does. Example: March Training I +2 to infantry move
If you don't improve your barracks level you won't get them, however. To improve your barracks level it will be necessary to improve your barracks AS WELL AS your culture level. For instance I usually make my capital Barracks 10 and Culture 10 and all other provinces Barracks 5 and Culture 5. New territorial acquisitions also increase your barracks level.

Doomed Mantis,
I think Grande Armee has it right.
I also read somewhere from someone who seems to know the game well that there is a 33% chance of adding a new training to your list of choices. This seems high in my experience if applied to ALL the available choices. However, it may be that the barracks/culture level might define a list of eligible "trainings", and there is a 33% chance that one of them will be added to your available choices.

I think this may be one of the great mysteries, kinda like why women ask us "does this make me look fat".

thanks guys, so I gather once you have selected an upgrade it applies automatically to all your troops (that it affects anyway)
