A question about repair!

Post by bigT74 »

Hello! Thanks again to all the vetrans that helped with my last question. The war effort is going pretty good for me (still early in 1942, as the allies, so that is saying a lot!).

I read in the manual that ships repair faster when docked. Say I have 7 badly damaged ships, is it better to make one TF of all the ships and dock it, or should I make 7 TF's and dock each one? Or does it not matter...

Completely doesn't matter. Make sure that the ships are disbanded in port, i.e. tied up alongside, not in a task force, and that's it.

Remember that 7 badly damaged ships devide the available repair points between them, e.g. the repair takes 7 times as long.... Same goes for putting a badly damaged and flooded ship into a port containing other damaged ships, repair point are devided, and the flooded ship could sink while "waiting" to get a repair point......

I don't entirely agree. First, most ports do not have Repair Shipyards which is entirely separate from "normal" repair efforts. The basic repair capacity does not get diluted, every ship checks independently of the others. And from what anyone can tell so far from testing, this is what controls fire and flood damage.

Now, Repair Shipyard generated repair points are a different matter. From my own testing and tracking it is actually wasteful to not have a significant number of damaged ships in port. I haven't figured out an optimal number, and of course it will vary depending on the size of the Shipyard and the durability of the ships, but one or two ships is definitely too low. Even if they are CVs or BBs. The frequency with which they will pull Repair Points is low enough that any Shipyard large enough to do any good will generate them faster than they can be used by a single ship.

I posted the numbers from my own tracking in another thread a month or two ago. You may want to take a look at them.
