Naval

Post by Smirfy »

Was just thinking the other day about Airboure Assault engine waiting for the release of CoTA how much the engine would suit Naval; Real time, Orders Delay, Visibility, Sightings, Formations, Range, no Hexes, Progressive Damage
Would make for a great platform for a WWI naval game.

Would love a WWI naval campaign game set in North sea but would settle for Jutland.:) Played one based round the Battlecruisers raids on the East coast on the living room floor which was fun. Smokey steamers thrown in by the GM was a nice touch :) The finite speed, speed dependant range, and limited ammo made for fun as well!

Moved on to computers and a game called Action stations out years ago (WWII naval) and was struck with the flexibility of no hexs and how many features were the same as AA. The main failing for me with HttR was that in MG the individual scenarios wernt as good as the sum total of the campaign. they did not really work in isolation (one side always too strong). Dont get me wrong Love the game.

I was informed that this was a problem map and unit wise. with a map of the North sea you dont have that much detail :) and you definitly have a more finite number of units. Which suits a campaign type game.

Hi,

Did you check the naval Campaigns from HPS? Real time, no hex, detailed. Jutland is covered.

And I guess you already know about Distant Guns. Same state than CotA though : under development. This last one makes me curious.

Cheers, Never been really over enthusiastic abot HPS games, but Distant Gun looks promising. If it plays as well as it looks they are on a winner. I'll definitly keep a lookout for that. Still think AA engine would suit naval.

Edit no campaign :( pity but still will get my cash.

I would be quite happy if they would someday add ships to provide naval bombardment such as a Normandy or Sicily battle. Perhaps, naval gunfire will be part of the PTO version.

Well you're spot on as off-map fire support is slotted in as the big feature for the first title in our Pacific series.[:)]

Anyone know how to get HPS games OTHER than shipping from the US? I like the look of the squad battles - scale is right up my street. I live in the UK and, as much as I like strategy games, I'm not paying all that shipping etc...a straight download would be ideal.

Cheers

I've only ever purchased from the US twice ... once I got stung and once got away with it. Of course on the download things, VAT is now loaded at the front ... usually at the Irish rate!!!
