A Big thankyou

Post by wodin »

Im not really into kissing backside however with Panther Games I really feel all us wargamers should say a massive thankyou.

Without groups of dedicated lads like these our hobby would be in a very sad state.

Many of us love military history and playing wargames and alot of us have no choice but to use PC's to enjoy our hobby. Boardgames are pretty much out of the question for some of us due to the lack of likeminded foe.

We not only have here a talented bunch we also have PC gaming visionary's. They are in the process of making a series that will be enjoyed for countless years to come and I really feel no one will beat them at it.

The only way it could all fall in around our heads is if they dont make enough money to sustain the output and keep there families in a lifestyle they deserve.

So lets try and make COTA the top selling wargame made full stop! Or if not this one then one of the future releases.

Well Done and Thankyou.

These days this genre is almost forgotten, People all want nifty 3d graphics and simple gameplay when playing. They dont want to concentrate too much and just want to let things flow. Unfortunatly 99% of gamers are thay way and were the 1% that enjoys realistic military strategy. I think those are the 2 main problems (not for me) for others. They just find the game too complex and lacks 3d graphics. Fortunatly i'm the kind of guy that does not mind about graphics and what i look for into those games is realism and complexity.

Panther games deserves everything you said, they are quite smart to make such rock solid games. I also hope they get good sales with COTA. I know that most people play SP out of it but i think there should be coop or 2vs2 to boost up the playerbase. Many players will be interested if they can coop with someone against the ennemy in a scenario. I also feel that no other games gets even close to what i have recently experienced with a very old demo (RDOA). So i cant imagine HTTR or COTA....

The subject matter of COTA does not inspire me but I will buy it to support the company.

I will play it and hopefully, my prejudice will be proved wrong.

Well said Wodin. PC games themselves seem to be losing out to console games these days (the PC section of my local Game shop has shrank considerably over the last few years) As I get older I find myself playing less FPS/RTS type games and concentrating almost entirely on strategy/wargames. This is a very small section of the PC games industry and few games even make it onto the shop floor these days.

Developers like Panther Games and a few others produce the type of game I want to play, but I'm aware they are probably just clinging onto profitability.

Anything I could do to help sales of CotA I would gladly do. At the moment all I can think of is to spread the word wherever I can, and obviously buying the game (releasing it also helps! [:D])

Yes, I felt the same way until I read the article at Wargamer.com & read the AAR on a scenario from COTA by Mark Shot in this forum. However I am now fully engaged & wait impatiently for the release. It really doesn't matter where the action takes place. It is all about how to conduct successful operations in real time. I don't know why I didn't try RDOA or HTTR but there it is. This is going to be a lot of fun. I'll bet once you get it & try it the venue won't matter so much. There are a lot of improvements in the game engine to look forward to.

I have been wondering if any one has considered adding more friction to the game by factoring in reliability of commanders & units in how faithfully they follow orders? In my reading this seems to be a major component of the friction of war. Commander X doesn't like his CO or doesn't think the plan is going to work & decides he will follow orders but drag his feet or something like that... You can catch my drift.

Count me in as a new fan of the game without having played it. I'll get it as soon as it is released.

Man, this is THE best operational level game out there. That's my humble opinion. :)

Well, he might be a beta tester or data design team member. In which case, he has played. Most don't seem to identify themselves with a forum sig or something.

I wouldn't go so far as to say COTA is better than everything else out there, since I haven't tried everything else. However, having a copy of COTA, I have no inclination to look for something else in the same genre. I only wish I had more time for COTA.

Please choose one of the following answers :
A) because it is not out there yet.
B) because RedMike is a dummy fanboy, aka Matrix Monkey.
C) because a lot of people (inl. RedMike) already played the two predecessors of CotA to death, they think the engine provide the best gaming experience and CotA supplement the already good simulation with ressupply system, mixed mode movement and improved AI and UI.

JeF.
Your score : A) -5 points B) 3 points C) 20 points.

I don't know what to make of this one except that maybe you're jumping to a lot of erroneous conclusions. And that's that for that.
