Strange, no. Realistic, sadly no.

Weather is not handled very well in the game. The manual describes exactly how things are done, but this does not mean that the weather the rules create is correct. I have always felt the weather in the game was a bit of a bodge which somebody always intended to revisit and fix but never got around to it.

I think it was said basically there is a "roll" each day, something like

0 - 2 = Worsen
3 - 6 = Same
7 - 9 = Improve

However, for CBI the zones are marked with a -1 so the table is something like
0 - 3 = Worsen
4 - 6 = Same
7 - 9 = Improve

This tends to "pull" the weather towards rain etc. It means that there is a 70% chance that the weather will be the same or worse. So bad tends to stay bad. Once you're in the "rain" catagory, there's only a 30% chance to pull yourself out of it. And even if you do, there's a 40% chance that you'll fall back into rain.

I don't know what the actual percentages are btw, just giving example.

Try a game with advanced weather turned off. You still get variability including the full range of weather, but (so far) we have not gotten stuck on thunderstorms anywhere like we always did before.

It must mean that it always resets to clear (or is it overcast? I thought that's what it was) just before before they do the weather die roll for the next turn, cause it for sure is not always clear.

Bad weather is a good way to limit the amount of air strikes in the game if you ask me.
It's not so that the entire region will experience bad weather during a rainy day either.

So weather has never been a big concern to me playing either Jap or Allied side.

I always went with weather was a way to slow the game down. Remember all the early days blitzkriegs people complained about. Personally i can live with the weather being "real" variable..it adds alot of uncertainty. sadly,it also seems to drive anumber of people nuts as well.

well, I've had a bunch of thunderstorms in china for 2 weeks straight... I kinda like it though, it limits airstrikes by both sides. Once I had to wait for about 2 weeks for the weather to clear enough so I could launch some planes, and that was in the afternoon phase, it having rained all morning...

This would seem to be the case in the game. Evidently the Designer(s) had heard of Monsoons, but had no idea that they were cyclical. Had they made May, June, July and August -1; while making November, December, January, and February +1 they might have had something. Of course, that only applies to the West of the Malay Penninsula in the area effected by the SouthWest Monsoon in the Indian Ocean. In the South Chine Sea it's exactly the reverse from the NorthEast Monsoon. The research in this game is horribly disappointing.
