effectiveness of minesweep ships

Anyone know if there is a difference between MSW, DMS, PG, PC and DD in sweeping mines?

Don't know. I use MSW as much as possible, but the others you listed occasionally will destroy 1-2 mines. I don't like to risk them though. I usually use the other types when they run into an unknown minefield.[X(]

MSW and DMS use their minesweeping gear. PC, PG, and DD sometimes use paravanes and machine guns, sometimes use their hulls.

MSW and DMS are most effective. Benefit of the MSW ships for clearing fields is that, they respawn if they miss one...

I think they are immune to mines only when tasked into minesweeping TF
my opponent lost DMS terror to type 88 mine laid by subs

This is what I thought. Thanks.

AP and AK will use their hulls pretty effectively too.

I use the MSW mainly as the Allies and reserve the DMS to going along with the BB TF to prevent them from running into minefields. Ouch!!
Since DMS are the only one's with speed over 30 knots, they are valuable to keep for this task only.

I know MSWs were immune in UV, but I do not believe they are in WitP... IIRC, I've seen MSWs hit mines in fields I've laid on several occasions in my PBEM game...

Of course I could be making that up... Too tired from work to remember correctly!

That might be because the Terror was a mineLAYER.[:D] Or did you mean DMS Trevor perhaps?

Anyone have an idea of how many mines an MSW can clear in one turn?

I don't think it's a fixed NUMBER of mines. I think it's a percentage. Judging by how long it takes to clear the larger fields, I'd guess it was something like 5% per minesweeper per turn. It gets down to a certain number (maybe 20 or less), and then the next turn it's gone.

Not positive, I haven't formally tested it yet.

How come there isn't a way to find out how many mines you have in either a base hex (the enemies) or shallow sea hex?? [&:][&:]
I have been laying mines on the southern tip of NG to either force the KB or any Bombardment TF to go further to reach PM, but would like to know how many I have there.

MSW's and other mine dedicated craft are best at sweeping mines quickly and avoiding a boo boo. (in one game i've swept hundreds of mines with MSW's....i've yet to have one suffer an "accident" and hit one)
