Line of Sight
Quite a while back, when I first started beta testing for COTA (very short lived as I had to move, lost job, found new job blah, blah blah) I mentioned Line of Sight and how it seemed a bit "dificult" to make much sense of...
I suggested perhaps a good way to display LoS was in a similar fashion to Flashpoint Germany, where there was a coloured area around the unit selected, showing LoS. I realised at the time that it would be not as straight forward to implement as in FG because that particular game was hex based and, as such, a hex was either in view or not...as COTA has no hexes, it would be more difficult to implement.
So...to the question...has anything changed with regards to LoS or is it the same as before?
Thx

And that's exactly how it got implemented in COTA, but Dave considers this such a minor additional feature compared to the "big ones" that it doesn't even get mentioned in his "what's new in Cota" list

I can understand that - programmatically, I'll bet it was a walk in the park compared to mixed movement and supply!
Any chance of seeing a couple of screens of how it looks, now, then....pleeeeease?

RE: Line of Sight
Excellent. Thx Dave.
See, my thinking was...if I wanted to setup a small unit for, say, observation, I would want to see what kind of area was visible from various locations...and I think that gives a very graphical and easy to see way to do it.
Thx
Was it easier to produce than the supply and mixed movement? Bet it wasn't![;)]

Sorry for the large format of the picture. I forgot it was at 300 dpi for the manual.
For me it was a walk in the park. I just asked Paul to do it.[;)]

Dave knows that I'm just kidding ... well, I hope so - as a soccer fan he must know the concept of an "open goal" - well, he gave me an opportunity that was to good to miss [;)]

RE: Line of Sight
Hey, what do the little MG-34 symbols mean next to the Anti-Personnel and Anti-Armour ratings? (I must have missed that detail in the previews so far.)

[;)] Considering that it was already present in the RDoA Scenario Editor, I guess it was not too difficult for Paul.
A nice addition to the in-game interface though. Would be especially usefull with the more accidented terrain.
And now a shameless reminder : you can find an illustrated list of changes on CotA game page at The Drop Zone. [8D]
You'll find a lot of screenshots in MarkShot's guide thread on top of the forum.
Here is an example of clever usage of Area LOS tool : Markshot explains differential sighting
Take care,

JeF,
Proper use of the Window's clipboard to cut and paste code is a lot harder than people think! Adjusting the indentation level of pasted code can be real murder.

I should know. It's my day to day job. [;)]
This is especially true when you're getting older. Movement coordination is not what it used to be.
BTW, nowadays, editors can auto-indent. [:'(]

You didn't missed them. I checked : they are not in the latest screenshots posted by MarkShot in the guide thread. So, Panther Bunnies, what do they mean ?

It means that in order to be effective the given unit needs to deploy ... like for ATGs as opposed to tanks which can fire on the move or by halting briefly.

RE: Line of Sight
JeF, they are to show that the unit has equipment that takes time to deploy, most noticable, of course, for arty. As Eddy said, you only know about the big things, Arjuna is keeping these little gems for you to discover at release ... I guess you already know about the front ice dispenser?
Ray
edit: whoops, crossed with Mark ... but notice he diddn't mention the ice dispenser ... I've just reread my RDA [:-]

Recommended Daily Allowance.
Too much COTA per day is just as bad as too little.
Min: 4 hours per day
Max: 17 hours per day
and stay out of the sun whilst taking it.

That leaves fully 7 hours a day for rather less important activities such as "job" and "sleep" - sounds do-able
