It's not quite as simple as just dumping the game out there.

The fact that there's an out of sync bug indicates that there is something screwy going on in the underlying game mechanics, because the Out of Sync bug is raised when a checksum value is inconsistant. Hence there's something random occuring in the underlying game mechanics that needs to be resolved before the game can be released. We have a new strategy underway to finally lock down the reasons for the out of sync bug.

There are also several other smaller bugs that are just being polished off, and the manual is now undergoing its editing process.

So we're close, and working as fast and hard as we can (Dave's putting in a mammoth effort to get this thing done). Please be just a little patient for a little while longer and realise that we're trying to deliver a solid, complete game that isn't going to fall apart as soon as you get your hands on it.

Thanks for your abounding enthusiasm for the game though [:)]

I know...it was all said with tongue in cheek, really. I'ma programmer and, as such, I realise the strings being tugged to put the product out fight against the stings to make sure people get what they want. [&o] It's a hard call...but as the programmer you just want to make it the best it can be...no programmer would ever release anything (without outside pressures) with a known error...that's just the way it is.

Just voicing my enthusiasm. [:D]

We hear you fellows. The only real obstacle at the moment is the out of sync bug we've been trying to crush fro months now. Just about everything else is done ( although I have still to flesh out a few sections of the Reference Manual and SM and MM Guides ). We have isolated when the bug was introduced - way back in build 94 ( about a year ago ). We're painstakingly working our way through the changes made in that build. Tedious? Yep. Anyone still want to be a game developer?

Hang in there. We are. And we do appreciate your patience and enthusiasm.

We know you want it out...more so than we want it...rest assured I'll be buying it when it's out.

I don't think I have waited for a game this long since Road to Moscow. I know it does no good to bitch and complain and it sure doesn't speed things up but it does ease the frustration some what. It just seems that this game is ready to go except for Multiplayer and I don't play that. There....I feel better.

GBS,

I hope that does feel better.[:)]

Actually, the out of sync bug also affects our ability to replay beta test recordings - same technology used. So if a bug in single play mode is detected and our testers send in the recording we invariably find that it gets out of sync before the spot where it originally occured.

In any event, we are much closer. Young Daniel Punch and I have narrowed it down to six files that were changed on 16 Nov 2004. My job today is to see if I can narrow it down to a specific line of code. Fingers crossed, wood touched and lucky charms to the fore everyone.[:)]

Its always a mistake to keep live farm animals near antipodeans if you want any work done, about time you slaughtered it.

Though you might be a bit off the mark with 'virgin' I'm afraid. ;)
