Cheerleaders

Post by Marauders »

David, could we place 3D cheerleaders, sideline players, ball boys, and coaches in our stadiums (not mobile of course), or is that space taken up by the field art?

Hey, I had to ask!

Hey just think if you could add especially cheerleaders JUST THINK [:D] of the possibilities!!!!!!!!

All kidding aside this is a good question that has not been asked. I am curious if any one has been given the opportunity to edit stadiums and if so what would be some good pointers or program suggestions to edit or create them.

Hmmm.. well the quick answer is yes, if you modelled your own stadiums you could model the chearleading squad into those stadiums as well. But they will not be animated. As it stands, the stadium system itself does not process anything animated (that may change if required, but I don't know yet).

This is a different game with some dudes and cheerleaders on the sidelines. I thought it would be fun to add some realistic sideline art.

Actually I did have, at one point, a wide number of sideline details, including full players. I ran into the problem of it slowing down the game so much I had to remove them. I still haven't figured out a good way to get that all back in and keep the frame rates acceptable.

Yeah, that was a consideration. We'll have to see how that goes.

To our luck, 3D cards get faster every day.

Sometimes Barebones is the best...after cheerleaders lets have individual player attitudes affecting team play, bad management, head coaches whom shouldn't hold that posistion, high school players whom get a starting posistion because daddy is the coach..and Al Davis just fucking up every aspect of football.[;)] [X(]

Strangely enough, that is listed on my original design docs as a possible feature. It never made it past those documents.

Hey David, I do agree with your decision not adding the Sideline stuff to the game for performance issues, but did you consider just having the sideline stuff as 2d Billboards for players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc.?

I remember Football Pro 99 has 2d billboards for sideline artwork and it was optional in the game to have it displayed.

Billboards need to be generated via code whereas 3D models of sideline details are done in a 3d modeller. It's much easier to do the work in the modeller. The other problem is that there's no way to generate sideline player textures for the billboards. Because it's possible to have completely user created artwork for uniforms, how do you get the uniforms into the textures for the sideline players?

Are you talking billboards on the scoreboard? If a stadium is created for a given team, wallboards, billboards, and even fans should be able to be modelled for that team.

Any cheerleaders and sideline people can be modelled in those colors as well. The opposing team sideline can have grey people.

In order to do this, one could not model the fans in the upper decks, as they can be painted to save cycles.

I was curious as to what pc specs you were using to test this. Because I would love to see this type of thing as on/off option in game settings somewhere down the line if possible. So, for those who's pc isn't speedy enough or don't want the extras, you can scale down the game to your liking.
