Actually I did have, at one point, a wide number of sideline details, including full players. I ran into the problem of it slowing down the game so much I had to remove them. I still haven't figured out a good way to get that all back in and keep the frame rates acceptable.

Hey David, I do agree with your decision not adding the Sideline stuff to the game for performance issues, but did you consider just having the sideline stuff as 2d Billboards for players, coaches, cheerleaders, etc.?
I remember Football Pro 99 has 2d billboards for sideline artwork and it was optional in the game to have it displayed.

Billboards need to be generated via code whereas 3D models of sideline details are done in a 3d modeller. It's much easier to do the work in the modeller. The other problem is that there's no way to generate sideline player textures for the billboards. Because it's possible to have completely user created artwork for uniforms, how do you get the uniforms into the textures for the sideline players?
