ORIGINAL: String

Check if you have your MSW's assigned to the same base you are trying to sweep. They tend to dock then and not sweep. Assign them to a nearby base and watch them work.

Already done - the MSWs at Colombo are assigned to
Trincomalee - and they stay at Columbo, undocked, but
never seem to sweep any mines. This has been going on several
turns now.

Also, i thought the 1.806 was supposed to have fixed
the "not sweeping mines in your home port hex" bug...

Here is the Intel Screen from the latest turn...
i am now getting turns sent to me from various people and so i've been able to compare some positions of our game vs. other games, and it is not so bad as i had thought... the Animal advance, while faster than historical, is not so fast as in other games, it seems.

Behold the Intel Screen from the latest turn...

Most of the points the Good Guys (that'd be us) lost were at the fall of Bataan with elimination of the CD unit and 6 PBYs that didn't get out in time... [:(]

The animals lost a fair number of troops this turn - some on the torpedoed transport (although i am not certain you get points for troops lost at sea due to a glitch), and in their ill-timed crossing into Singapore.

Hi all,

Report from CIC US Armed Forces
--------------------------------

My counterpart has been keeping you up to date recently. Apologies for the lack of my correspondence. I've been flying around between Seattle, San Fran and even to PH to get the US War Machine in Order and to respond to the nearest threat to US Securtiy - the Aleutians.

Reports from my submarines indicate they are hitting abut a ship a day at present. Ok but I want more. I keep hearing excuses of darn torpedo malfunctions but I wonder if heads need to roll instead[;)]

CV's Lexington and Saratoga have been placed under the dcommand of RADM Brown and Enterprise and Hornet under 'Bull' Halsey. They havebeen order to sail from PH to the Midway area tomorrow. They may move elsewhere from there deopending on what/if anything happens.

A lack of bases in the Allied theatre either occupied, built up or supplied means the avauilable men and planes are better left in the US for now.

I have 40,000 tonnes of supply moving towards Dutch Harbour. I also have a BF moving towards Umnak Island. An RCT is about to depart Seattle for the area heavily escorted by BB Warspite & Co.

i've been remiss about posting an Intel Screen...

it seems our score for bases has dropped, apparently due to supply.

Numerous IJA and IJN bombers were shot down by flak that did not register on the AAR...

After reeceiving the turn, we now have a better idea of what when on... the Japanese lost a lot of Nell and Vals to flak and a lot of aircraft to operaional causes... each side lost 2 ships. Despite what appeared to be a couple of defreats by their land forces, the Animals scored more points in land points lost.

Here is the Intel Screen:

Strategic Summary for Allied Forces in the Western and South Pacific (USAFE, ABDA, Australia/New Zealand/ANZAC)
General Niceguy commanding
Date 31 December 1941

Forces in the Phillipines have withdrawn to the capital of Manilla. Defences at Bataan and Clark Field were abandoned. The Japanese tactic has been to use massive aerial bombing to disrupt fortification building efforts until a massive attack can be made. I expect this tactic will continue at Manilla. Supplies are about half what is needed. Still the Phillipine units are putting up strong resistance. An attack yesterday was repulsed and the enemy took 10 times greater casualties.

General McArthur has been relieved of command of Phillipine forces and will take responsibility for establishing a new command in Austraila for the defense of the Southwest Pacific. He has been replaced by an extremely skilled field commander.

Seaplanes continue to fly from Minadao and maintain a lifeline of supplies to the besieged city.

The Dutch air force, now with a month of experience, is regrouping on Java. Replacement planes are coming online. At Tjilitjap a gap in the air defense was spotted by the enemy. Three Brewster squadrons have been reassigned to patrol the port...the main evacuation port for the island.

The strategy for the Dutch Airforce has been to avoid engagements with enemy fighters and focus on harrasing shipping. This has led to few losses and an overall rise in pilot experience. The figthers will continue to patrol for unescorted bombers and harrass shipping.

Planes have spotted a large TF rounding the eastern end of NG and Intel believes that an invasion of Port Morseby is immenent. The bases defences include level 3 fortification and 107 assault points. Supplies are plentiful. It is believed that the enemy will need at least a division of troops to take the base. The Australian navy has 4 cruisers on patrol off the east coast, but will remain distant unless the enemy presents it with a vulnerable target.

Here is the Intel report for the latest turn. The score for the Allied bases went up, apparently due to better supply. We lost most of our aircraft in this turn on the field when the KB hit Port Moresby.

The Animals have (perhaps wisely) refrained from bombing Singapore this turn.

We got the results from the Animals of the last turn... unfortunately, we have TWO separate AARs - and they are different... There will be an additional pause whilst we sort this out...

EDIT: it appears we have been struck with a variant of the replay bug!! [X(] [:(] We will probably press on in our hopes that this will self-correct next turn...

ANOTHER EDIT:
The Animals are apparently redoing their turn to avoid a replay bug. i'll post the results in the next post.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 01/01/42 COMPRESSED AND ABRIDGED -
After much flumuxing around, the Animals (and Allies) decided to back up and go with Admiral Bruce’s turn (which seems to be the correct one). Summary: Animal troops advanced more guys over the causeway into Singapore and got hammered; Animal forces landed at Tarakhan but failed to take it, but did take the undefended ports at Tavoy and Legaspi.

Hi all,

Report from CIC US Armed Forces - 1st January 1942
----------------------------------------

Well the first day of the new year has passed and with it the first 3 of the new F4F-4 Wildcat fighters have come off the production line[:)]

More and more US production is SLOWLY starting to come into effect and more AK/TK are reaching their destinartion ports in the US/Panama City to become available for military use.

Today for example TK's left San Fran bound for Suva with 72,000 tonnes of fuel on board. 110,000 tonnes of fuel and 21,000 tonnes of supply are starting to load up at Seattle bound for Alaska/Dutch Harbour.

The fuel will be particularly useful since 2 x US CV TF's have reached the Midway area after a potential invasion scare but found NO enemy ships in the vicinity. They are now ordered to proceed due northwards to the Aleutians area to interdict enemy movements up there.

You may ask why send important assets to a remote and relatively un-important area?

1. It's the nearest area to US soil directly under Japanese threat/encroachment.

2. It will allow my pilots to gain some useful combat experience in an area where there are no enemy CV's (all around PM) and no G3M/G4M bases are in range.

3. It gives my CV's something to do before returning to port to receive their new complement of F4F-4 super.....errr Z-95 'Headhunted' fighters[;)].

The damage to PG Haida was particulary annoying since she is very well armed/armoured andwould have been good to fight off light enemy surface vessels. She will make Dutch Harbour though (55/65/35). Time is of the essence since from recent combat it is clear at least enemy DD's are in the Aleutians and all I have protecting my convoy unloading at Umnak Island - US BF/ 20,000 tonnes of supply) are 6 escorts - PC/MSW/old DD's.
