When Animals Attack - Threadwar 3x3: Humans Strike Back

Post by niceguy2005 »

Here begins the recount and telling of the mighty struggle against the evil Empire of Japan.

Unbeknownst to the valiant leaders of the forces of freedom (Speedy, Niceguy and Rtrapasso) the evil Empire (no, not Microsoft), led by Fabertong, Mike Solli, and Bruce Powers, is planning a brutal and wholly unprovoked attack on our brave troops...Thread willing we will prevail in this our darkest hour....

FABER, MIKE or BRUCE, if you are reading this you are in the wrong AAR.

This will be a 3x3 game using CHS Nikmod, with ABs extended map and with the soviet fleet present.

Speedy, Commander-in-Charge: CentPac, SouthPac, NorthPac and West Coast
General Rtrpasso: India, Southeast Asia, China, Far East
General Niceguy: USAFE, ABDA, Australia, Anzac, SouthwestPac

There are actually quite a few house rules to this game. I would refer those interested to "Bob" in the "War Room"

The allies, being completely surprised by the upcoming attack, have no coherent strategy at this point in time. Stay tuned though, much information will be forthcoming as it is declassified.

INTEL REPORT 6 December, 1941

Intelligence sources have just uncovered the massing of Emperial Japanese troops under General Fabertong on an unidentified beach. The extreme aggression of these troops is apparent from their beady little eyes. However Admiral Kimbal has assured his commanders that the fleet is safe...

Well, the replay did come in... it appears the Animals have succeeded in sinking some PT boats, AKs, and light patrol craft in their dastardly opening assaults... they struck widely across the Pacific, though, and managed to land troops from Amboina, to North Borneo, Malaya, the Philippines, to Rabaul, and Baker Island. Wake Island holds for now... more results once they are available...

EDIT: i am inserting the December 7, 1941 results in here:

Pugsy, the current US Navy Midschipmen's Mascot, has volunteered for service to "destroy all squirrels and penguins". No word yet on how he plans to handle the time-travelling dogs.

Only occasionally... [:'(]

Of course, Solli's squirrels constantly need flea baths, but to give all his troops one would deplete Japan's strategic pyrethrin reserves![:-] [:'(]

Not true. [:-]

There is that elite corps of bald, underwater squirrels that's immune to fleas. [:D]

Hi all,

My first post in here.

We have just finished our turn 2 orders.

Turn 1 was in some ways expansive but not sio great in others IMO.

There were the usual landings at Wake (didn't fall) and osme small landings on Luzon and at Kuantan, Malaya.

The 'surprise' turn 1 landings were at Rabaul (pisser) and Amboina. No landings at Mindanao which suggests maybe an isolation of PI rather than immediate capture.

Baker Island was also taken in Cent Pac. I'm keeping an eye here in my theatre.

the PH strike was poor IMO. Very unlucky. The airfield is pretty banged up wioth few operational planes for today but only 3 x BB were heavily damaged - BB Maryland 86/68/5, BB Pennsylvania (50ish SYS), BB Oklahoma (50ish SYS). Everythig else is under 50 SYSish!

My immediate plans ofr my areas of command are:

1.) Deploy submarines to patrol areas to engage the enemy (not expecting much until receiving radar and losing dud torps)

2.) Mass CV's for a move somewhere - South Paific at present. Massing Lex and E south of Palmyra at present, Awaiting Sara an York from WC/Panama.

3.) Next 4 months goal for me is to deploy defences throughout Nor/Cent/Sou Pacific........

Turn 2 results are in...we haven't looked at the turn yet, but we do have the combat report.

Day 2 brought mostly more of the same...more troops unloading in Malaya, PI, N Borneo, Dutch NG and Rabaul...

Bases that fell: Guam, Weda, Jessleton, Appari, Wake, Vigan, Sorong

Bases that are already wavering: Rabaul, Lingayen, Brunei

Repulse with 2 DDs attacked a large, unescorted japanese transport at Kuching. The transport group scattered. Repulse and company sank one transport and damaged 4 more.

Also AVD Arend (small gun boat) attacked the Japanese Transports at Sorong. Arend faced 3 MSW. She damaged 1 MSW and 2 transports, but took heavy damage.

In the PI, Zeros swept Manilla destroying 7 and damaging 10 P-40s while losing 2. Also 70+ Betty/Nells attacked Clark field.

I am massing AA guns at Manilla.

My overall strategy for PI, DEI and OZ is to force the enemy to move delibrately. When the enemy moves without proper escort and air cover they will be made to pay. Where I defend I want to defend with full supply and good support behind prepared definsive positions.

Otherwise, my goal is to fight hard and fall back (hopefully slowly) to a final defensive line that is no further back than Northern Oz. Most Dutch and PI troops will fight to the last man, giving Southwest Pac and Australia time to build up.

i'll add that Admiral Penguinmoto Fabertongo (in the Japanese mode of name expression) launched another long range attack at shipping outside PH, and sank one ship and damaged another.

The KB appears to have been significantly weakened due to damage to many of its aircraft, but they still managed to savage the fighter CAP of the outnumbered Americans over the ships, and ended with a 2 to 1 kill ratio (overall for the turn) . Still, this may be pinching a bit:
