And don't get me started on "Boise".

"Boise" isn't a real problem. BB-42 ("Idaho") is, however.

My problem with the whole PC issue is that it addresses speech but not what causes said speech.  We have allways had and will always have nuts, bigots ect.  Before PC they normally spoke their minds.  Not always to their targets but very often to those around them.  PC abores their speech but not their motives.  I have worked with many people who were very bigoted but by using PC covered it up.  I discovered many of these bigots only after they had destroyed peoples lives due to their hatreds but would smile and make nice and were very PC while they were doing all in there power behind the scenes to hurt groups they didn't like.  There is still many unresolved issues around the world today but lets cover them over with flowery speech because someone is offended.

Sorry, I'll climb off my soap box now.

I think "PC" is dyslexic (sorry, "grammatically challenged", or whatever the current ******** phrase is) for "BS".

Finally something we can both agree on..., "PC" is a crock of "BS"! [:D]

Remember the movie Blazing Saddles? The very essence of the movie is that they made a total mockery of racism and bigotry. See the movie today (on most channels) and it's neutered by bleeping out all the non-PC terms.

The PC crowd is running around with stupidity. Much more dangerous than running with scissors or your choice of firearm.

Begs the question: Which, if any, terms would one consider beyond the pale (apologies in advance to any Irishperson or person of Irish descent)?

Possibly the term "Jap" is in violation of forum policy, which includes "No foul language or any type of language that would be consider [sic] abusive this includes any materials which are knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, sexual oriented, vulgar, obscene, hateful, harassing, profane, racist, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, or that otherwise violates any local, state, national or international law or regulation." ;)

This should be discussed. Too many simply avoid it. I agree with mullk. I'd rather know upfront if someone doesn't like me, instead of pretending to be my friend or like me.

Right now in the states there are a lot of issues surrounding this as it relates to illegal immigration, crime and a wide array of other subjects.

It is a very touchy subject though and I think most would just rather ignore it.

Anyway I've said enough. I'm going to stick to the game issues from here on out.

So, you are now the Matrix PC policeman?

The word "Jap" offends you, because 65 years ago it was used in Allied propaganda?
And today, it is used on this forum by posters only as an abbreviation for "Japanese"; But, so what? It must be banned!
You alone, in your wisdom, decide what is good and what is bad.
I fear now to post anything, lest you disapprove.

Matrix has provided your sensitive soul with a little green button; why don't you use it, since you seem to be so easily offended?

This PC crap has gone too far; I'll have to enjoy WitP:AE without this forum.

Pardon? [&:]

The Japanese people I know consider the "short" version used by some to be disrespectful, that is how I got educated. But they may not bother to bring it up on the forum. "Shouting" into the wind isn't very profitable.

I grew up in the city that boasts the highest percentage Asian population in the US, Monterey Park, CA. I knew a lot of Japanese and most regarded "Jap" as a racial slur. Many of my neighbors were in internment camps during the war. "Jap" and "Nip" were used as racial slurs during the war and the context hadn't changed for them through the years.

If I abbreviate Japan, I tend to use Jpn, which is often used as an international abbreviation for the country today, just as USA or UK are used.
