Soviet tactical air is now upgraded to 43, and I cannot wait to use our new IL-2s against the panzers.
The Soviet stockpile is now 1035, manpower is at 77%.

The US bombs Hanover for 4 production. Still no AA nor interceptors.

UK builds a large corps and 30 landing ships.

Turn 69: April 10, 1942

Despite rain the Axis goes on air raids against the Soviet front lines in front of Moscow.

US, UK and Soviets build an armor corps each.

Turn 70: April 24, 1942

The Soviet Baltic fleet is by now sunk. U-boats sink 3 merchants and an escort.
Once again the Germans take a single hex south of Kharkov.

US strategic bombs Hanover for 4 points.

Canada builds an infantry division. US builds 2 escort fighters.

Despite heavy attacks we fail to dislodge a German corps in the south.
If this is how hard it's going to be, it's going to be a rough summer.
We also make a few attacks in the north in snowy weather.

Turn 71: May 8, 1942

U-boats sink 2 merchants and take 2 steps damage.
Clear weather comes to the east but Axis attacks are remarkably cautious;
they take 2 hexes in front of Moscow and in the south they take Kharkov and one other hex.

I must say I'm puzzled by the "panzers first" approach.

In the south we easily push back the Yugoslav 6th army, but don't really have the strength to do any more... this turn.

While I'd love to counter-attack near Moscow, we need the panzers to tire themselves out a bit more first.
So we settle for an air offensive. Our brand new IL-2s score one notable success.

The US bombs Hanover but there is finally resistance and the bomber takes 5 steps damage.

Ark Royal is intercepted by u-boats in fleet mode and takes one step damage, causing 2. The Courageous is
rushed to the scene and sinks a u-boat.

We go on a minor air offensive in Egypt to keep some pressure up.

But all of this is a side-show...

First our large BBs Nelson and King George V make moch landing attempts against southern France.
In total we take 6 step hits, a bit expensive.

Then follow the real landings, cutting the rail line.

The UK overruns Madrid while the US secures Cadiz. The Axis don't really seem prepared for this.
I think they have to take Vichy France to have any chance of setting up a decent defense,
but I don't see enough Axis units in the vicinity.

The UK 3rd armour has mistakenly been built as Breakthrough, but oh well, at least it's fast.

I agree. But it does bother me that Germany signs a negotiated peace treaty with France and then breaches it a month later and this has no effect on Us War Entry.

Turn 72: May 22, 1942

Axis invade Vichy France. Vichy Africa joins the Allies.
The ANZAC corps does its job and holds out against repeated attacks.
Rain in Russia.

Barcelona is inexplicably left empty, sadly we can not quite reach it this turn,
or Spain would have surrendered.

UK forces move from Egypt and Crete to Tunisia. US bombs Munich (undefended).

The Soviets attack the 3rd SS Panzer, but we don't dare go all-in.

Turn 73: June 5, 1942

Vichy France surrenders. Germany takes 5 hexes in front of Moscow, but not without cost.

Patton is killed taking out some random Spanish corps. Eisenhower takes over.

The Axis establish a defense line at the Pyrenees, just as expected. I don't have any real hopes on advancing any further this year.
But we have our second front and that is all that matters.

UK sends 40 and US sends 50 production to the Soviets. US builds two ground attack groups.

We hunt the 3rd SS Panzer to the ends of the earth but it refuses to shatter.

It's tempting (and prudent) to stay on the defensive near Moscow, but going berserk is even better!
We're going all in, all reserves, everything. Let there be carnage.
