La Résistance: battlevonwar(Axis) vs sveint(Allies)

Post by sveint »

I think this is going to be a challenging game for the Allies, I am clearly facing a competent Axis commander.
The Netherlands fell on turn 3, Denmark is conquered.

The UK has built 2 air superiority groups and 5 large corps.
France has built 4 large corps.
Canada has built 4 escorts.

The Allies have turned off all naval repairs and upgrades.

U-boats have been a nuisance but have suffered 8 step losses.

Turn 15: March 15, 1940

The weather stays clear, which is disastrous for the Allies. At least the Germans suffer more casualties then the French when they attack.

With the help of the RAF, the French push back the XIX panzer corps, taking 14 step losses, causing 19.
At least that panzer corps is out of action for several months.

France builds 30 supply trucks (should have done so sooner).

More "good" weather. The French put up a good fight, and while we lose 2 hexes, the Germans lose slightly more casualties.

We could counter-attack at 3 to 1 but let's have the Germans exhaust themselves instead.
The Allied air forces need a rest.

Canada builds an escort, the UK builds another large corps.

I am really beginning to wonder if the Weather table is accurate or if the weather die rolls are broken. This is the 2nd recent AAR where the Axis have gotten 3 Clear weather turns in March. The odds of that are less than 1% (or .008 as SillyFlower would say). So the odds of it happening in 2 recent games are almost infinitesimally small.

Yes, I got a spell of clear weather like this in my mirror match with Magic Missile. The odds of that happening are super low. But here we are. I am also wondering if the weather table is reflecting what the code is doing.

That said: having this extra bit of clear weather is not as great for the Germans as you'd think. They cannot push deeply into France without their new construction armor and air and that stuff only begins to arrive in April. Clear weather in March is meh, unless you need it to bump off Belgium. (In which case is it is most welcome.)

If you stick your neck out with just the couple of panzers you start with, you're likely to get a bloody nose.

France counter-attacks the 2nd SS Panzer (personally I never build SS units) and inflict 15 steps.
Allied forces also push back two German infantry corps.

The fighting has been savage, with severe losses on both sides. The Allied air forces are severely depleted.

You said something about WW1? lol

This just confirms my suspicion: even the largest British commitment will only briefly delay the fall of France if the German knows what they are doing. You might have gotten an extra month out of this.

Is that really worth a big commitment? You had better hope he doesn't decide to bypass Paris for a bit and try bagging the BEF west of Rouen. That's what I'd do. I think I could easily gobble up at least 4 of those corps. This is what paratroopers are for...
