Whoa now! No one said 330 meg.

So how big it is? I’m going to d/l game at work, transfer the file to a CD, and then install on my home PC…if the file is bigger than 700mg it will be impossible to copy game to a CD… standard CD-RW is 700mg maximum.

It will fit on a CD, thats about all I'll say. The complete rework of sound coupled with over 100 megs worth of intro has shot my sizing out to lunch as of late.

Will digital download be available for 56K modem users or just DSL or better?

330 MB download = 18-20 hours at 48K +

I was not sure that this 330Meg were not confirmed - my fault. So let it be 200, 300, 400, 500..... Will we get only one big file or will the actual key file be smaller, thus making it possible for modem users to downlad it separately and get the actual "big" (enter actual meg no. here) file otherwise....to save on shipping and handling.

Uwe

I used to download Linux, Oracle and DB2 packages over a 56K dialup that were all over 300MB without any real problem, other than they took all day to get done. But with "smart" download services that can reconnect on disruption where it left off, the only real problem was the wait. There is no reason old dialup connections can't download a 200-400MB set of files. They just take a while.

Hopefully there will be multiple mirrors...I can see the download site getting slammed the first day and hope to get more than 4kb/s out of my connection. [:)]

100 megs of intro? I'm sure it's going to be cool, but I hope that either (a) it works like UV, where I can just remove the intro files from the folder so that I don't have to wait for them to play every time I run the game, or (b) the game provides a "quick launch" .exe a la Korsun Pocket allowing me to get into the game without the movies.

Standard rename the video directort if you want no movies at all.

Standard rename the sound directory if you want no sound at all.

Quick Launch I can't tell you, I'm not even sure there will be a *menu* like in other games since this is aimed at digital download.

I enjoyed the intro movie that came with UV very much (except it was a bit fuzzy and most of the footage seemed to be in the Central Pacific, but it was great anyway) but after absorbing it about a dozen times I just hit the spacebar when I fired up the game and this skipped past all the intro stuff. Don't know if WitP will be the same.

That would be fine with me. I prefer having an icon in my start menu that, once selected, takes me directly to the game.

Ack! Spacebar method takes too long and you have to navigate all the other movies (matrix logo, 2by3 logo, sheesh, who are these guys? [;)]). Moving the video files takes you directly to the main game menu.

I think what is being suggested is that the download, which is almost certainly a compressed executable (or maybe several) is what to burn to a CD. No telling how big the game is from this. Just that the executable will fit on a CD. Given the CD and the proper copy protection code, you could install it and play it on anything, even though the actual game might be over 1 GB.
