Allies Win. Game ends in November 1939 with Axis resignation after China took Suchow and the KM lost 3 capital ships.New ELO game begins:

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Axis wins after Allies resign in July 41.
kjgokc2007 did not annex the baltic states, probably to save the russian units spawning near Riga. However a little test in hotseat showed that the US don't seem to care about Germany conquering those 3 states and provided you do an early Barbarossa and kept SU mobilization low, you can conquer one of them without bringing uncle Joe in. So I conquered Lituania in April 41, stuffed it full of Wehrmacht and declared war on both Latvia and SU in May. That way I could still kill all units of the northern spawn (now near Pskov) and got a big headstart towards Leningrad and Smolensk.

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
New ELO game started:
Bavre (Axis) vs Taifun (Allies)
Additional house rules:
- No Tulun attack by Japanese bombers during Barbarossa.
- No early attack against Japan by Allies until Japan declares war to the USA.
- No Italian warships leave the Med until Italy is at war except Italian subs and transports.
I suggest to include these house rules as standard for the ELO tournament.

Can you explain the reasoning for the first one ?Taifun wrote: Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:13 pm New ELO game started:

Completely agree on the 2nd as it is so easy to knock out Japan otherwise. third one i disagree. Allies can just put 2/4 ships at gibraltar to avoid that, Italy cna just move couple of units on first turn and that's it.
Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
IIRC Japan can DoW on USSR at the same time as Barbarossa. If no Japan land units cross the border there is no Diplo penalty to the USA. A Strat Bomber can take Tulun below strength 5 in 2 attacks. This means that Zhukov and all the Siberian reinforcements cannot operate West to fight the Germans. This is a major penalty for the Russians.- No Tulun attack by Japanese bombers during Barbarossa.
I agree it should be adopted as a standard ELO rule.
Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
thank you, in this game your learn new tricks every day!
Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
I'd also like to support that. Especially since 1 & 2 seem to be so common now in ELO matches, that they might as well be ELO rules.Taifun wrote: Sun Mar 12, 2023 3:13 pm ...

Re: The World at War ELO Tournament
Bavre (Axis) wins
Game ends with Allies surrendering after a few turns. Great moves by Bavre. Unbelievable favorable odds time and again. I still don't understand how he manages to get the best combat results with minimal losses. Disheartening.
Played too many games, not my best version of myself. Need a brake!

I did not do anything special at all and I'm kind of confused tbh. With favorable odds, do you mean the RGN or the combat predictions?Taifun wrote: Tue Mar 14, 2023 4:10 am Bavre (Axis) wins

The best explanation I can give is that I did a turn 4 Netherlands attack, then grinding my way through the low countries and northern France througout winter. The Germans get many scripted boosts in that phase and the weather was abysmal. That meant I did very little damage (usually 0:1 or 0:2 odds, unless a unit was nearly dead) and my pace was slow, but I also received hardly any damage in return. Since Taifun was clearly going for an all in France I also adjusted my strategy accordingly with a very slow and careful advance plus AA on my guys in anticipation of carrier and stratbomber shenanigans. My estimate for the fall of France would have been August, so absolutely nothing special.
Japan was doing very well however, with Nanning conquered in April 40. But that was not really my doing either (appart from focusing on it), as Taifun did not put much in the forward defense there, to conserve troops I assume.

Mirror match complete.lwarmonger wrote: Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:56 am New ELO Mirror match. allor/gadjan (not sure which he is ranked as.... feel free to chime in) vs lwarmonger
Allies lwarmonger (victory) vs Axis allor (loss):
Pretty straight forward game. 1942 invasion of Italy offset an "all in" to Russia strategy by Allor, and meant the Germans got turned back short of Baku and Stalingrad. Russian steamroller got started in 1943, and by the time D-Day happened in France in 44 it was all over. Axis resigned in 1945 with the allies closing in on Berlin and the initial invasion of the Japanese homeland begun.
Allies allor (loss) vs Axis lwarmonger (victory):
Played this one almost to the end (about 6 turns left on the counter when game over). Axis launched a 1940 invasion of Britain during the fall of France when an errant air strike identified the Brits, while going all into defending france only had a garrison on London (the British navy had gone all into the med to destroy the Italian Navy). A massive alpha strike by the Luftwaffe cleared the way for a German airborne landing. 2 units amphibed in every two turns meant after 6 turns the axis had enough (an HQ and an armor, plus four more infantry units) to take Britain by the summer of '41. Barbarossa was late due to Sea Lion, but the Soviets didnt defend the Caucasus, so the Soviet union was crippled by 1942 and defeated by 1943. Allies went all in against Japan... this culminated in a massive naval/air battle of the coast of Japan, which sunk much of the allied navy and about half the Japanese navy in 1944, with a combined air and naval force plus kamikazes countering the combined Anglo-American fleet. German armor poured through Central Asia to seize India and the middle east, while a large scale German invasion of Nova Scotia and Florida was foiled by US Strategic bombers, even after the British national morale collapsed and they surrendered in 1945. A secondary invasion of South America and the caribbean in 1946 was complimented by a surprise Japanese invasion of California, which seized most of the state and almost all of latin America before the the US counterattack in California. 5 or 6 turns before the end of game, US national morale hit zero, and the United States surrendered. This is the furthest I've ever played a game like this. Was a lot of fun, and good game!
