banzai!

nice job and tradeing 35 AC for 17 ships (although not all of them will sink) is a good deal.[;)]

IKE99, what is your and my total shipping losses? Your shouts of joy remind me of the NY Stock exchange with minor up spikes as it keeps dropping in value.

IKE99, what is your and my total shipping losses?

18 to 34

I´ve lost no destroyers, , no cruisers, etc, in fact not a single warship the entire game. One submarine. One mine layer.

Now how many have you lost?

AP´s, it´s unavoidable not to lose transports as Japan with supplies coming all the way from Truk. I´ve lost 25 transports in 8 months. An average of just 3 a month. Not even noteworthy on Japanese shipping. No problems here, mountains of supplies.

Enough for Jan. 1st 44´.

Judging by those a/c loss figures, has anything actually happened in this game?

Think of this as a boxing match, round 5 of a fifteen round event. Miller, explain to me why I(as the allied player) should commit forces to the offense before the arrival of the F4U? And this is a no rule game. To me, Ike has major respect for taking this game as is, no rules. Remember auto victory? If I move too soon without enough garrison Ike could land in my rear.
And here is some red meat for all UV players. If u can play UV senario 17 no rules 100% as japan and win then you are the BIG DOG. IKe99 may be our Big dog.

Ike99 is in total turtle mode. All his air and land is at full strenght. He has not moved past Lunga and did not take PM. He has given me one chance to surprise his KB and I was not in position to take advantage. I did get alittle greedy loading out nevia and I did get my wewe wacked. But no major damage yet from him or me.

I would expect a forced CV battle from him before the F4U arrives. I will have 7CV and 5 CVE in feb43 and the pure carrier plane totals(580IJN vs 780USN) are starting to shift my way. With the addition of the Carrier based F4U I will gain advantage.

I consider Ike99 an elite player as I grade myself a veteran. I see tactical and strategic moves and base placement he has made that cause me to reconsider my future advance.

In every game of UV I have played, the deployment of ground forces made by the other player 1,2, 3 or 12 months earlier has lead to his defeat. I must say that my game w/Ralph(deutsland) is still to be decided(AUG43 19600/16800 pt spread). I have not yet probed the IJA line of IKe99 as the units are not yet available to back up a push. Round 10 of this boxing match will require some action as my clock is ticking. As we all know Once an allied offensive starts the casualties will be very heavy, possiblby more uneven for the allied player because the IJA has not over extended the positions.

Yes, currently this game is kind of slow. It is currently more a fencing match looking for the other guy to make a fatal error.

Agreed, I'm playing Ike in a scenario 17 with him as the USN. So far we're 2/3rds the way through May '42 and he's not made an agressive move yet. To be honest I don't blame him and the IJN is far too strong at this point. However I don't know where his CV's nor the bulk of his shipping is (his airforce is blazing on the ground at PM) and that worries me...

I don´t have to do anything in this game but keep ending my turn until time runs out on him. I´m 4,000 points ahead.

All the presure is on him.

I´ll just run the clock out on him to draw, I´m happy with that.

He has to win the game, not me.

This was the first use of the longer ranged p38.  A tough situation trying to save the cripple.  Worden should be out of range of the val based at Lunga next turn.  The action is heating up.  We both lost 8 planes this turn.

Usually Ike is fast with his game turn turnaround. He probably has a lot of units to move this turn. 1-14-43. Halsey awaits news from the front.

I´m not jumping for that. Give me something to jump for, then I´ll jump.

Bigred parachutes some Marines into Irau.

No Engineers-No Airfield.
No Airfield-No Supplies.

On the New Guinea side Bigred has adopted the tactic of bombers Naval Search. First few days a few ships were hit but Japanese shipping has now adjusted to the tactic. No hits have been scored last several days.

More Losses

Several thousand Japanese have landed at Irau and the fighting continues around the island.

Hull and Gamble were both sunk this day and a PT boat scored a lucky hit.

RE: 2nd Marines

Post by bigred »

1-19-43:  US Marines from the 2nd Divison, 2nd regiment have occuppied Irau in force by fast transport.  The issue is undecided as the IJN surface fleet shells the marines every night.  Looks like some IJN ships hit prepositioned USN sea mines.  As the IJN was shooting up PT boats w/ the surface fleet the fast trans came thru unscratched.  Lost on destroyer to  sub action.  Sank 2 subs off Irau.  Ike has countered the PT threat w a PG on patrol at Irau which seems to be clearing my PTs.  Paper, scissors, rock.  Finally some action.

Both sides have chosen deliberate attacks.  In for a penny, in for a pound.  Intel reports the 4th snlf has reinforced the defenders.

Gentlemen, this is a fine game.  God bless Matrix.

Sank 2 subs off Irau.
One.

When Bigreds operation began against Irau the ship losses were 18 to 34 in his favor. This number has moved rapidly to 34-35 his favor with many more Allied ships damaged.

A good introduction to how costly his advance will be.
