AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/01/42 – COMPRESSED AND ABRIDGED
Lots of flummoxing around on this turn... unfortunately, we ran into the REPLAY/SYNC bug, and it took us some time to get around it (finally solved by one Japanese player redownloading, then rebooting and then running the turn - things turned out somewhat differently for everyone running the original problem turn, with troopships getting torpedoed, bases not falling, aircraft not being intercepted. However, the version we finally got is the one listed below. In addition, a few other events scrolled past on the replay, including:

RE: When Animals Attack - Threadwar 3x3: Humans Strike Back
12 December 1941 13:00 local time
Off the coast of Sumatra near Pagai Island
Speed 22 kts course WNW
Lt. Miller knew he hadn’t been at the top of the Executive Officer’s list of favorite people before the “Loggman Incident”, but now he was right towards the bottom. The Exec had chewed him out in front of the men for allowing Loggman on the Repulse, and berated him for allowing the American to wander away unattended and get stuck in the shell hoist. He practically blistered Miller’s hide (figuratively speaking) for allowing the fighting efficiency of the ship to be affected.
Loggman had remained stuck in the shell hoist for several hours after the ship had weighed anchor, and thus he and his dog were apparently going to be aboard for the duration of the trip to Columbo. Miller knew the destination even if it wasn’t general knowledge yet, although the crew was guessing it might be Trincomalee, Calcutta, Bombay, or even Aden. The task force was making its maximum speed, 22 knots, limited by the damaged cruiser Mauritius.
As partial punishment, the Exec had him serving watch-on-watch, and had put Loggman in his bunk space (to be shared), along with his dratted dog. Space was at a premium with all the refugees aboard.
At first, Miller had thought that the ship would be carrying HQ staff from Malaysia Army, but he later found out that the HQ staff had mainly been carrying records aboard, and that the men would actually be travelling on other ships. Repulse, for reasons unclear to Miller, would be carrying mainly civilian refugees from Batavia and Singapore. Supposedly, these were supposed to be high civilian officials as well as their dependents, however, Miller suspected someone had been playing fast and loose with the boarding list (which had been incomplete at best)... wandering around the deck, he spotted the odd Dutchman Air Raid Warden - not a difficult feat as he was still wearing his peculiar helmet. He also spotted several young women who seemed to be unattended. Possibly these were daughters or wives of some officials on other ships, but Miller suspected more than a few of them were mistresses of one or another officer. One woman, he suspected, was the woman he had seen performing at the nightclub the night of boarding, although he might be wrong about this... it had been smoky and she was now dressed completely differently.
Since there was no outgoing radio traffic due to the imposed radio silence, Miller was still only able to decode messages and report them to the bridge. The messages were not good: Brunei had fallen, and a depressing number of ships were being attacked by air, and many of them were damaged or sunk. The Allies were getting in some licks as well with their aircraft. Both sides had been sinking each other freighters by submarine actions as well.
Miller decoded some FLASH traffic, and shook his head. The Dutch cruiser Java had just reported she had just been hit by a torpedo, apparently dropped by a Japanese single engine plane... that likely meant there was a carrier in the area. Miller had just finished writing out the decrypt, when a head topped by a gold-braided cap poked around the corner of the hatch leading into the radio room. “MILLER! Get over here!!” It was the exec. Miller sighed inwardly. Despite their “best speed”, it was going to be a long trip to Columbo.

RE: When Animals Attack - Threadwar 3x3: Humans Strike Back
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/14/42:
I am going to try to start summarizing here instead of listing the combats in regular AAR style (even though I’ve been compressing and abridging them.
So, in summary :
The Animals land more troops at Sabang at the “north” tip of Sumatra - defeating and capturing the defenders there - 1st NS Garrison/2, and 2nd NS Garrison/2 surrender. This is only a few troops, though, (36 total troops.)
The Animals also land at Woodlark Island, and Pagai Island (cleaning up more dot bases).
The Allies continue attacking Adak.
There are the usual round of attacks on various Chinese troops by Japanese LBA.
The Japanese attack a solo ship at Rangoon, but it’s a trap: the Nell and Betty naval bombers are savaged by the defending fighters, but the tiny AK Patras takes two torpedoes and sinks.
Another AK (AK Subadar) is hit by Nells and Bettys while trying to retreat to Calcutta.
The KB attacks with Kates at Noumea, and there are the usual exchanges of artillery.
Field Marshall Mike attacks at Honan, causing another fort to fall, but the withdrawal is almost complete. There are heavy casualties on both sides.
Mike also attacks at Ningpo, but suffers a bloody repulse with his deliberate assault.
Let me know what you think of the new format... should I continue this, or return to the old “Abridged and Compressed” writeup? [&:]

I'm rooting for both sides because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Go Animals and Humans![:)]
Go Animals and Humans![:)]
It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

RE: When Animals Attack - Threadwar 3x3: Humans Strike Back
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/15/42 –
The high points again:
The Animals are determined to erase all those little green dots in their territory, landing more troops at Woodlark Island and Pagai Island and capturing them.
AK Subadur sinks (hit by 3 aerial torpedoes 14 March 1942).
The Animals bombard Noumea with CLs and a BB - inflicting very few casualties. Then the KB pounds Noumea with Kates, and finally this is followed by a ground assault with a deliberate attack - which fails to gain any ground.
The Allies bombard Adak and attack again, whittling down the few troops still there.
USS Silversides torpedoes AP Tango Maru at Noumea, and S-42 torpedoes AK Yae Maru at Luganville.

RE: When Animals Attack - Threadwar 3x3: Humans Strike Back
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/16/42–
A rather dull day by most standards... there are the usual round of unopposed bombing of the stoic Chinese troops throughout China, some failed sub attacks (d@mn torpedoes!), failed ASW attacks, and some bombardments swapped at Noumea and Davao.
A couple of minor points of interest: 113th IJN Base Force was wiped out at Adak by another deliberate assault, eliminating all resistance on the island.
The Animals invade Pucheng, and launch a deliberate assault, which manages to take down a fort, but the defenders (a guerilla unit which is refitting) are outnumbered about 7 to 1... they do manage to inflict 157 casualties to their 18, which is a good performance, but ultimately a doomed one.
The Animals continue their assault against the green dots, capturing Mussau Island, and landing at Siberoet Island (off the coast of Sumatra).
Lastly: Field Marshall Mike of the Animals has almost captured Honan in central China, but the defending troops have almost completely evacuated, without the knowledge of the attackers. Mike also has invaded Ningpo on the coast with a sizable force, and opens with a probing artillery barrage... more on this later, as this will prove to be a focus of the Chinese campaign.

RE: When Animals Attack - Threadwar 3x3: Humans Strike Back
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 03/17/42 –
The Animals are spending a lot of time and effort to bomb the hapless Chinese as well as cut-off units across the map.
The sieges at Davao and Noumea continue with bombardments and counterbombardments. Various sites of holdout troops in the PI are also attacked.
The RO-34 is damaged by USN destroyers in the Aleutians.
The Struggle Against the Green Dots continues: Siberoet Island and Kiriwina Island are invaded, and Siberoet Island falls to an assault... of course, there was no one there to oppose them, but still...
China is starting to look a bit interesting: a shock attack in Pucheng against a guerilla unit captures the city, and a deliberate attack at Ningpo manages to reduce some forts. Meanwhile, a major Chinese force is driving (slowly) towards the coast... the Animals feel the time is right for a counterattack: under darkness and smoke rounds, a full IJA division and two brigades, as well as supporting artillery manage to cross the river from Kiukiang, causing a shock attack:
Ground combat at Nanchang
Japanese Shock attack
Attacking force 32584 troops, 156 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 707 – 34th Division, 14th Independent Brigade, 14th Field Artillery Regiment, 11th Independent Brigade, 4th Mortar Battalion
Defending force 40711 troops, 169 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 882
Japanese max assault: 672 - adjusted assault: 168
Allied max defense: 931 - adjusted defense: 511
Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 1)
Japanese ground losses:
3454 casualties reported
Guns lost 35
Allied ground losses:
67 casualties reported
Guns lost 1
The Animals are badly cut up, losing better than 50 to 1 in the attack... and I plan to counterattack the next day.
This attack was an attempt (I think) to cut the supply lines for the troops to the southeast marching towards Hangchow.
