The Indian Ocean fight I was trying to provoke. I just did not expect to wind up 1 hex away when it went down. That sucked.
When baby KB went after the transport fleet Panzer had transiting the area, the first clue I had of a CV in the area was "TF reacts to enemy carriers". Needless to say it shocked me.
At Rabaul, I knew the BB's were a coming and he had another TF to the south, but my blind search aircraft only said it had 4 CA's in it. So I sortied my CV division to go pound on some more of Panzers surface forces. Next thing I know is a few SBD search aircraft were spotted and I started praying to the sea gods to "please go after the CV's and not the BB's". I got lucky and Panzers CV's had to launch at long range and could only carry 500lb bombs. They still banged up Kaga pretty good.
All in All, I think it was a draw but I think I came out better than Panzer did. In the short term anyway. I am going to have to cut back the Saki rations on my ship repair yards though. Alot of ships are going to be in port for a long while.

Still alive I think. I think Panzer got real busy at work. Have not heard from him for about 2 weeks.
RE: Panzerjaeger vs 2ndAcr Lemurs' Scen 26
Gah, Im still pissed of for losing the Hornet and BB Nevada due to a freaking bug. Maybe you could do a couple of updates Dave?

Couple of updates? HMMMM. What shall I say?[:D]
March 23, 1942
Panzer one again tried to hit Rabual with a bombardment group supported by the Hornet.
That was a very, very, very bad idea. Rabaul has 40 Zero's and 40 Betty's based there, a ton of supplies and at least 2 CV's lurking in the area.
Nevada and her battle group stalled out right near Shortland island. The only thing I can figure is they refueled and did not have enough op points to get to Rabaul and back out before daylight. They did stall out just enough to engage a transport TF of mine though.
I had 2 CV's lurking just south of Green Island, I ran them down to near Shortland and what do I find? But the Hornet right there. My CV's launch on her, but not before Hornet launches on me. Luckily they were at extreme range, so only 500 lb bombs could be hefted. No CV's got hit by the attack. Hornets air group took heavy losses.
My strike launches and Hornet eats 4-6 bomb hits and about 3 torpedos. I took light losses. The next strike was just like the first. Then Rabaul gets into the action and places 1-2 torpedos into Nevada and a CA.
Panzer has me completely stalled in China. I own all of Luzon, Malaya and most of Borneo. All of New Britain is mine. Panzer has built Lunga up to a size 4 air base and has landed on Munda. Burma is now on the move rapidly.
He now has no active CV's in the Pacific. The ones he does have should be damaged. They have all eaten torpedo's in the last 2 weeks of game time. I have 4 CV's now fully repaired and combat ready. 3 CV's will take a couple months to repair.
Zuikaku is somewhere. Hiryu is combat ready finally in Japan. Akagi and Junyo are playing around in the South Pacific. Baby KB are all in Japan for repairs. Soryu will need another 2 weeks to a month of repairs. Shokaku will need 6 months to a year to fix.
Java is looking awfully tasty at the moment.
p.s. Panzer, I tried to be as delicate as I could with this one. Hard not to gloat a little. As long as Hornet was hidden from me, I was going to stay quiet around the south pacific. I was not going to risk another CV fight if I could avoid one.

RE: Panzerjaeger vs 2ndAcr Lemurs' Scen 26
Well, its ok. Youve got all reasons to be happy.
Thing is I had to go neutralize Rabaul for a while because I needed to bring in reinforcements to Munda and Gili Gili. So I set up a pretty strong bombardment TF and a CV taskforce.
The idea was that on day 1, the bombardment taskforce would attack Rabaul. This together with B17s out of Guadalcanal would at least weaken the size of any air mission coming out of Rabaul. On Day 1-2 three separate taskforces would run in to Munda with two large land units and supplies. I already had paradropped the 2nd USMC para bn in there to secure the area..my first paradrop [8D]
Anwyay, what happened instead was that on day -1 my bombardment taskforce was 6 hexes out from Rabaul, next to my CV. Great. On D day, the bombardment group only moved 4 hexes though, and stopped cold 2 hexes off Rabaul. Now...that is a pretty bad location to sit in when Rabaul is undamaged. At this point in time I also spotted your CVs coming in from the North. On D-day, Hornet was sitting in Munda btw...protecting the troop transports.
My Bombardment TF stumbled upon 5 japanese APs and together with the Hornet, we messed them up pretty bad.
Ok, so that is the situation on D-Day. On D+1 I order the Hornet a couple of hexes NorthWest. Partly to try to engage your CV, which I believe is heading for my BBs, but also to try to draw the fight away from my troop transoports who at this time are full of troops and just beginning to unload. I figure that my shore bombardment group will supress Rabaul enough to not make it a huge factor on that day.
On D+1 my bombardment taskforce does *nothing* They start the turn 2 hexes from Rabaul, and they dont do SHIT. For whatever reason.
My CV launch against your CV, but 80% of my bombers drop on a BB instead of a CV. Great...too pointless. Then Your CV hits me, but Hornet is still ok after that one. I think I took one torp hit and 2-3 bomb hits.
Then something like 45 G4s and G3s arrive from Rabaul... Game over.
It annoys me because if my bombardment TF had done what it was supposed to do, then I might have been hit by 3-8-12 G3/4s...but not 45. The runway damage plus the destroyed/damaged would have decreased the number in those strikes.

RE: Panzerjaeger vs 2ndAcr Lemurs' Scen 26
I doubt your bombarment group would have hit Rabual anyway. 2 hexes north of Rabaul is a unspotted, lovely little surface combat TF set to react.[:D][:-]
So, Nevada would have met Yamato and 3 other BB's plus 2 CA's, 8 DD's in a surface fight. That coupled with the fight with my transports would have pushed the group on it's ammo load. Also I have found that sometimes if a Bombardment group engages in combat on the way to it's target (like Nevada did with my transports) that they will sometimes change their setting to a surface combat group.
I expected you to flee south after stumbling upon my transports and not risk it once spotted. FOW is a mother. I could have sworn I saw more hits than that on Hornet from my CV strike.
The thing I hate, is that even though I have my Betty's set at range 11, is that Lunga is within that range too. That is quite irritating and pushes my op losses up.

Yeah, I see you are venturing south with your CVs. Looking to kill some stragglers no doubt. Its a gutsy move. Ive got something like 250 bombers at Guadalcanal.
Btw, are you going to make any more offensive actions in the Rabaul-Guadalcanal region or is it my turn soon? [;)]

Not sure, I have a whole passel of divisions I am trying to decide what to do with. All those lovely Malaya and PI units are now completely rested and repaired.
And since I have all these lovely CV's to play with and all.[X(]
I will soon have to do something about Lunga though. Maybe circle behind you and cut up some transports, send a few bombardment TF's to pay you a visit, maybe an invasion now that you have done all the grunt work and built it up for me.

hehe Yeah, its not as if you are going to need those divisions in the NEI or anything...but what do I know...maybe you feel Guadalcanal is more important than Batavia and Palembang [:D]

True, I still have 6 big old brigades in the DEI and all. I may even leave a division or 2 there, That leaves me with about 5 to send south.
The best thing about everything, is that I no longer have to really worry about where your CV's are.[:D]
Then again, northern Australia looks tasty too. Maybe New Zealand. Noumea anyone?

RE: Panzerjaeger vs 2ndAcr Lemurs' Scen 26
Just read through this AAR - great stuff guys [:)]
Since I've also started this very same scenario against 2ndACR as the Allies, I wanted to see what the future might bring...as well as see how Lemurs mod really works out!
2ndACR has really perfected his moves in his latest game..by the end of december 60k troops are chasing me back to Mandalay. Not enough troops to defend anything and Rangoon has been abandoned.
In Malaya troops quickly cut accross the penisula and pressed my troops into Georgetown and south towards Singapore.
Only at Khota Baru has I been able to delay him. I hope to make a stand in the south though!
Again he chose to hit Manila instead of Pearl, but I didn't loose as many subs as in this game. I've also managed to sneak out quite a few transports, even heavily damaged ones! Most of the troops on Luzon have been withdrawn to Clark Field and are digging trenches for what they're worth.
In DEI all but the western part of Borneo has been captured as well as Ambonia - but Kendari has been left alone.
Managed to hit him with 2 ABDA tf's and sank quite a few transports, destroyers and escorts. Even though naval bombers savaged several of my ships, nearly all of them got away.
Rabaul has been all but bypassed - perhaps the name put a little awe into him after Panzers exploits here?!-)
Early landings on bases just to the north of the place took place quite early, but then nothing happened for 4 weeks - then he landed on Lunga!
I can clearly see how these tactics are aimed at bypassing potential choke points...well, that's ok - I'll find new ones!
I've been impressed over how few ac he has lost thus far, been almost paranoid about using them. Not a single attack against Manila or Clark in 3 weeks.
There have been virtually no big battles and the contrast to this AAR is extreme! Both the PoW and Repair have been moved safely out of harms way - just not found any openings that have been worth it. Would have been interesting to see whether your aggressive tactics would have worked under these 'modified' circumstances Panzer. I will have to face the full weight of the Jap juggernaut in 42 - the only good thing is that I've not lost more than 6 dd's and got all of my assets intact as well. Have to use them wisely, that's for sure.
Another difference that can be mentioned is the sub/asw war! 2ndACR has been using his subs very successfully against you Panzer, and you've not sunk that many of them either. In my game I've sunk 7 and damaged 3-4 - most of them in the vicinity of PH in 3 weeks. 4-6 dd's on asw have really made short work of them - and only a single destroyer has been sunk in return.
Well, at least I know that Hurricanes are now the British secret weapon in this modified scenario [:D] Combined with the AVG they're going to make you pay for your vile intrusions 2ndACR!!
Have to say that you've done excellent work with this mod Lemur! I'm really enjoying it and slowly getting the hang of the Jap ac names. Perhaps it would be possible to use a combo? E.g. A6M20-Sen 'Zero' and B5N 'Kate'
Looking forward to see how this all ends, have to study it closely and get to know my enemy - isn't that what ole Sun keeps nagging about [;)]

I have learned some hard lessons about risking my aircraft foolishly. Plus, I warned you that I try a new strategy in every game. Would not want you to gather intel from this AAR to see where I will go next and what I may bring to the dance.[:-]
Just wait, Clarke shall soon feel my fury from the air.[:D]
Panzer and Ron are vastly different in play styles, so I have had ample time to get my early war tactics down pat to battle each style. You on the other hand, Pzb, have played as the Japanese, so you have an idea of what my capabilities are and I have to account for that.
Yeah, my Manila attack was no where near as vicious as I had hoped in our game.[:(]
Feel free to bring you CV's out to play again. Rabaul is on my list. I have other fish to fry right now in our game.

Thanks for the nice words Pzb, my new version on Spooky's site(tm) is with original names. Sigh. I like the Japanese names but not one other player seems to want them so i went back to the American code names.

Hey now!! I had just learned all those names! Can't you put both names? Like Ki-61 Hien (Tony)....

RE: Panzerjaeger vs 2ndAcr Lemurs' Scen 26
I cannot add both names to every aircraft due to character limits in the DB.
You are the first player to actually like the Japanese names!
Mynok, you now officially are above 2ndACR in getting the new mod first!

Now you say I will have to re-learn the American code name? BS[:-]
Keep them Japanese. I know them all by heart now. Just took a long time to get used to seeing them.
