Panzerjaeger vs 2ndAcr Lemurs' Scen 26

Post by 2ndACR »

This will be the first AAR of Lemurs' Scen26 so that everyone can see how it plays out and get a feel for it and some of the changes that he made in it.

I am playing as the ever victorious (for at least a year) IJN.
Panzerjaeger is going to take the whipped up on (for a year at least) Allies.

FOW is on
IJN sub doc is off
Allied sub doc is on
Weather is on
vary setup
Surprise on
+/- 15 reinforcement
Non historical start
Port attack on 1 port only - Allies give orders only to formed TF's on turn 1
1 day turns

Panzerjaeger will hopefully contribute to this AAR since I do not have the literary or creative skills at writing. Being a hick from Texas and all. I am going to try a few new strategies in this one than some of the other PBEM's I have going, so I expect a few setbacks. All comments and feedback welcome. Once I get the turn back we will kick this thing off.

Oh yeah, gloating, ribbing and propaganda will most definatly be allowed.

heh, I dunno how much creative writing I'll be able to contribute with, but nevertheless, I always like to get a close and personal touch to my AARs, so bare with me guys ;)

Prolouge
Saturday December 6th 1941 - Dusk

Clark Field
2nd Lt Dwight Ellis was cursing as he went through the pre-flight checklist for his P-40E Kittyhawk. Together with 3 other pilots from the 21st Pursuit Squadron he had drawn the short straw for this weekends duty, and thus he was tagged for dusk patrol. Dusk patrol on a Saturday was never that appreciated by the fighter pilots stationed at Clark. He was swearing silently inside his open cockpit as he regretted every single one of the beers he was missing right this very second. Before long, the flight leader started his engine, signalling the other pilots to do the same. "I bet Susanne is at the Eagle Club tonight, and with my luck she will hook up with Cpt Pierce now that Im gone" he thought to himself as he started to taxi towards the runway..."just my luck".

USS West Virginia
Pearl Harbor

Half a world away, the USS West Virginia was sound asleep. A few men were awake on the bridge naturally, but most of the crew were resting quietly in their bunks. Captain Borowski was awake though. He didnt very much like to be tied up at port, and even though the ship was safely tucked in, in the middle of battleship row, and with USS Tennessee inside her, he would have prefered to be out in the open ocean. He was a sailor by heart, in fact, he had probably spent more time at sea than on land. Right now he was quietly going over the charts for next weeks gunnery practice together with his first artillery officer, Lt Maxley. Lord knew the crew needed to practice more live fire exercises, especially at night. The last time they had tried night gunnery drills, they had almost put a hole in one of their destroyer escorts. We need to practice more night fighting, he thought, knowing full well just how good his collegues in the Japanese navy were in that aspect.

USS Lexington
Somewhere in the Pacific.

The ship was steadily plowing through the vastness of the ocean, the sound of the machines could be heard like a soft heartbeat from the insides of the ship. The sun had set about an hour before, and the last light was just fading at the horizon infront of her. LCDT Ramsey, commander of VF-2, was standing alone on the flight deck looking into the night. Tomorrow he would be leading flight operations for the entire squadron for the first time. He had only been in command of "the Bounty Hunters" for little over a week, and he desperately did not want to screw up this command. After this leg, Lex would be heading back to Pearl for refitting to the new F4F-3 Wildcats, at least that was the rumor among the pilots. And he really wanted to be squadron leader for a Wildcat squadron, as did practically every pilot in the navy.

And so...the stage is set for three men to have a chance encounter with destiny...
(or in other words, Im waiting for your first turn)
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

Well, 'ole Panzer took a swift kick in the rear today. Manila got hammered, a total of 27 ships lost on the first day. His B-17's took a pounding by trying to tackle KB. Made a booboo that I will reveal later when he can not take advantage of it.[:-]

I am going to post this combat report in full this time, but will edit out alot of the other stuff in later posts. Mainly the unimportant info to shorten the posts. I conducted a total of 3 combat landings in Malaya. One might hurt in the short term. I am highly displeased with the air strike on Singapore's airfields. Bear with me, I ain't to literate.

OUCH That port attack really really hurt.

I worry more about the 80+ CV, CVL, CVE's you get to play with. I get to play with my 25 or so.[X(]

Considering the light Japanese air losses at Manila...I would say it was worth it. Now..if the Allies try to surge the damaged ships out, they will get plastered again.

There's not too much to try to surge out.

The RN might be able to pull off something though, I think I spotted an opportunity around Malaya. The next combat report will tell...

Leave a couple of AK's with 90% damage docked at Manila to attrack air attacks..then hope for bad weather and run like hell [:D] If they sink at sea...oh well.

BTW...does your girlfriend have a sister?

Hi all,

I am LMAO about the Ki-46 Japanese name being blocked by the language filter!
That is hilarious! I never even thought of that; you just get reading another language long enough and you stop thinking in your own language.

Do you all (that would Y'all for 2ndACR) hate having the Japanese names? Is it real confusing?

Anyway, thanks for doing the AAR. I am expecting you to win 2ndACR, especially since i rerated all of the Japanese aircraft to 50 mnvr.

PI gets crushed. You just have to accept it.
Take your heavily damaged ships and sail them to the north of PI and maybe draw away some air units. Put the rest in 1-2 ship convoys and scatter their retreat paths.
Sacrifice your mine sweepers to suck up air units. MSW ships respawn after a year or so so might as well get rid of them if they are damaged.

Look like im going to only get about 7 surface ships out of PI in my game with ACR. My subs look like they are going to escape though.

I wish you would go back to the Allied code names. Its way too confusing to learn the Japanese names.

Well my worthy opponent saw my booboo and made the most of it. I sent the wrong Bombardment groups to Mersing and forgot to retarget all my Nells at Saigon to Naval Attack. It was a violent sea battle that had me on the edge of my seat. One of my surface forces was savaged by the POW and Repulse battle group over the course of 2 seperate engagements. My smaller task force consisting of 3BB and a DD also engaged twice.
But they were able to keep the POW's TF away from my vulnerable transports full of troops.

I now have a few dented ships (not quite as bad as I feared) to show for it. They fulfilled their mission with the utmost of courage. To add insult to injury, I had transfered a fighter group to Saigon and left them on stand down orders, so my Nells attacked Singapores airfields unescorted and got savaged.

On the bright side, it is now duck hunting season in the PI area of operations and there is no bag limit. Now if only Operation "Kick in the Crotch" goes off without any problems my worthy foe should have problems galore to deal with. China is quite at the moment.

Hm, I cant wait to see that combat sequence. Score one for the Royal Navy!!

It looks like the Prince of Wales sortie bagged:
2 light cruisers (confirmed sunk)
3 destroyers (1 confirmed sunk, 2 sinking)
1 Battleship (presumably heavy damage, possibly sinking)
1 Battleship severely damaged

at the cost of
4 Destroyers (heavy damage) and
1 Battleship (presumably light damage)

Well, that should put a serious dent in the Japanese shore bombardment capability in the area. 2 Battleships either sunk or out of action for at least 6 months.

Now lets just hope that Prince of Wales can make it safely out of range of the Japanese airpower.
The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays, is coming to a close.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences..

Keep dreaming. My BB's took very little damage. [:-]

One will be away for maybe a month, but the others need some paint. Only problem I have is my BB's had no problem firing their main guns at your DD's but they fired the small crap at the BB's. And the range was less than 8000 yards in all the engagements![X(]

Could not believe the crappy shooting done by my sailors! I mean really, 2000 yards and you can not hit a BB geez. They lost their Saki ration for the war.

Most of the hits to my BB's were from your DD's.[:D]
