Hi Andrew, thanks for the fix! Can the pwhex file just be cut and pasted in the proper folder or is the mod select utility absolutely necessary? I don't switch between maps in the the install I'm playing so I'm hoping I can just cut and paste.

As Cobra says, you can just put it into the WitP folder. The reason I don't advise that is because if you do that, then run ModSelect later, the updated file will be overwritten by the old one. However if you never run ModSelect that is not a problem.

Andrew,

I provided this list to Sid in an RHS thread - are these essentially the same hexes (in RHS & CHS)?
Sid,

Based on the note that Mike Wood put out about coastal hexes and your pwhex release with modifications in the PI, I looked over the DEI. I have come up with some hexes that probably exhibit the kind of problem that Mike described. Warning: I am not a pwhex expert, although I think I have interpreted things correctly, you should look at them yourself to be sure. I conducted the examination using the '1' key while inside the game (I have not edited the pwhex.dat file).

Andrew: These hexes might be the same in CHS - I have not looked.

These hexes have code Ls (Land Swamp?), but probably should have code Cs (Coast Swamp?):
25,57
25,58
21,52
21,53
21,54
28,32
28,33 (these last two hexes are near Rangoon)

These hexes have code Lw, but probably should have code Cw:
34,59
29,64

These hexes have code Ow. Based on adjacent hexes, they should have a different code but I do not know what they should be:
21,49
21,48
26,63

The following two hexes are adjacent to each other. One of them should be a coastal hex:
24,59 (Ow) and 25,59 (Lw)

The following two hexes are adjacent to each other. One of them should be a coastal hex:
24,60 (Ow) and 25,60 (Lw)

I hope this is helpful.

Having already reviewed pwhex for Japan and the Philippines, the DEI is next, and I will do that this week after completing 4.40. PWhex updates can occur in the middle of a game. While I found only about 2 errors as such, I found ten times as many things I think could be done better - I never object to reviewing pwhex - which is so big I get sick before I look at it all. There are 144x144 possible hexes - each with six sides - a communications code - a terrain type code - etc.

I don't have a current copy of the RHS map, but the list you provided does list many of the affected hexes that I corrected.

Sid - you can use the latest pwhex file for my map as a guide as to what requires correction, but essentially, as I stated, it is the coastal swamp hexes in Burma, DEI and PNG.

Calcutta isn't coastal in the new PWhex-file (it's Lu), so I can't move ships to or from Calcutta anymore. I can still send ships to Portland and Canton, though.

Hmmmm. I may have accidentally used the wrong pwhex file. I moved abroad last week and took the file from a set that I copied to a temp disk. Maybe I grabbed the wrong one. I will check it out and if it is the wrong file I will replace it with the correct one.

Understood. My list is from the most recent RHS pwhex, so it should be a good starting point.

Andrew

I checked and I did use the wrong file (from map version 6.1 instead of 6.2). I have now uploaded an updated file with Calcutta as a coastal hex, as it was in version 6.2.

Thanks,
Andrew
