Bios for scenarios

Call for Volunteers! This sub-forum is devoted to our ongoing project of researching and
writing brief biographical sketches of all 1000 Civil War generals, each
of whom has a chance of appearing when one plays "Forge of Freedom."
Players are invited to participate in providing info for these bios, which will be added to the game by means of patches, as they are
written.

If I'm correct, these are the only ones left from the original list:
Federal Gen. O.B. Willcox
Federal Gen. W.B. Franklin
Federal Gen. H.E. Davies
Federal Gen. Andrew Porter
I can take those four if you would like.

Thanks to both of you. Yes, that takes care of the key generals in the two existed scenarios. Time for me to edit some more...

I just discovered that we missed Brig. Gen. Theodore Runyon, who commanded the Union's 4th Division at First Bull Run, and Col. Dixon S. Miles, who commanded the 5th Division. Both of these guys need to be in the July scenario, now that we're making the OOB even more historical by assigning generals to the right armies/divisions. Do any of you have an interest in one or both of these guys?

Also, J. H. Hobart Ward should go into the July scenario, so a bio of him would be good to have.

Huh. Seems we're missing Francis Bartow, who was killed at Bull Run.

And Samuel D. Sturgis out in Missouri could use a bio, as could George W. Deitzler. George L. Andrews, too. All three fought under Lyon at Wilson's Creek, meaning that in late July 1861 they would have been eligible to command brigades in Lyon's army.

Here's another Confederate who needs doing: Nicholas B. Pearce.

I'll take Bartow and Deitzler (though he was not appointed brigadier general till Nov. 1862).

Great, thanks.

Since for the next patch we're adding the capability of assigning generals to specific armies/corps/divisions, and this means that we can now have somewhat accurate OOB's, we're making an exception regarding start dates of guys who were commanding brigades as colonels at the start of the July scenario. There probably won't be a need for such an exception in the November scenario, since by then more than enough guys had been promoted. But guys like Dietzler and about half the brigade commanders at First Bull Run should get to enter the game while still colonels.

Hmm. Looks like a mistake was made (not by me!): we didn't need H.E. Davies for 1st Bull Run, we needed T.A. Davies, who commanded a Union brigade there. Anyone care to do this bio in the near future? It's probably pretty simple, since the guy doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry.

In addition to Davies, these are guys who are being assigned to particular divisions/armies in the November scenario:

John E. Wool, Ormsby M. Mitchel, F.J. Porter, W.F. Smith, Halleck, Charles P. Stone, J.A. Dix, Simon B. Buckner, J.B. Floyd, W.W. Loring, M. Lovell

This morning I added the most recent 31 bios to the upcoming patch, putting us at 226 overall. Next week I'm moving to St. Louis, and the week after that I'm visiting Eric and Mr. Z in Ann Arbor to work on future projects, so I probably won't get much editing done. (Although, since the project's one-year anniversary is Aug. 4, I might try to get through 24 of Battleline's shortest bios so that we can get the project up to 250.)

The 31 new bios are a good mix. Some major names (Jackson, Meade, Hooker, etc.), some guys who are important because they had commands in July and/or November 1861 and now our starting OOB's will be more accurate in terms of ratings and abilities, and others are just nine-percenters.

Keep up the great work!

EDIT: I messed up my math: 175+31=216. Don't think I can get us up to 250 by Aug. 4, then.

I'll take Buckner and Floyd (safes time as they were involved in the same surrender) and would do "Mister F.J." Porter, the hero of the Peninsular.

Gil,
Who still needs to be done for the next scenario?
I'm finished with my major projects for the time being and can write again.
Thanks,

The scenario-specific guys still out there are: Ormsby M. Mitchel, W.F. Smith, Henry Halleck, J.A. Dix, M. Lovell, T.A. Davies.

There are also some 25- and 100-percenters still out there: McDowell, Reynolds, McPherson, Gregg, F. Lee, Chamberlain, Sedgwick.

What? Gil, did you move to Missouri? If so, what part of St. Louis did you move to?
