Nope, nothing all the way to near Lenn, Moscow and ?? crimia... It is now turn 11? December , the first winter and I stopped my advances exciept toward Stallingrad and the south east, he effectively losses if I take Crimia, Miokop, Baku and Stalingrad.
I stopped to save my army due to the 50% thats right 50% reduction fo 12-41 and 01 42 turns! ouch!
We will advance.. sorry no screans today as I had a family emergency!

Well, I did not realize the winter comes in December, but the rest gave my troops some r and r..
Will get to screenies soon, crazy life issues this week!
Currently winter penalty is gone and we are staring at each other in the center, he broke my single sucirty unit line in the area south of Lenn, and I used all my air to pummel the unit!

In the South I am surrounding Rostove and approaching Stallingrad.. he has some tough medium tanks, but I control the skies.

Berlin has informed me that I will be getting a needed boost in the summer of 42, and We are hopefull to take severakl key areas..

fyi Kursk fell!

Hmm these situation maps look familiar - maybe becasue I've seen some that look pretty close to these in a couple of books I've read --

I'm looking forward to seeing how the next year goes! Thanks

Well I did not do the fall/winter push as the germans did at Moscow becease I knew I would loose a ton of men and his fresh Siberian troops would kick my Arse with the winter rules, two months at 50%!
I also stopped in the North.. I have a concentrated force as does he in the South.. and I am attemptingto work forces where I need them..
One challenge as the Germans is you only get your starting cities, no more, so with those few cities you either rotate where the troops go, and supplies or daisy chain them through a clearing houe hq, ie AG-East before AGN AGS and AGC, the problem there is it takes too long to get the troosp where they are needed! His Med tank 2 are a BIT#H, and I cannot stop producing to getenough pp to add better tanks, or heavies or antitank armor?? blank circle over head as freeboy has beavis moment and cannot remember armor type!

Last turn was not kind in the South, but I advance onLEnningrad.. he is pushing up from Crimiea.. I need to attack and take Stavastapole. I need so much and cannot getenegh of anything now! But if I stay stable till summer, and then have stocks build up uf mobile forces I anticipate one or two major cities taken and at least one breeakout! lets hope so!

Summer 42

Post by freeboy »

the offensives are harsh, lots of dead on each side, no huge breakout, and one vicory taking Rostov in the South and crossing the Don. I pushed to attack a stack with some air, I LOVE OVERRUNNING RED AIR!!!!
but was unable to attack and move them as I had to manuver to get there after building new bridges and forcingthe crossing.

In the center I attacked finally.. limited success.. He had attacked agains AGS attemptingto relieve Stalingrad .. I am counter countering and he is counter counter countering, basically it is a brawl.
Totally opisate in the North where I slowly inch forward paying in blod for each hex.. Lots of artillery and air make him pay.. but watch out for level two flak.

I think this one is tough due to the Germans not getting the cities to give ANYTHING in there industry.. while the reds keep churning out.. soon he will have more and better eq, and I will fold.. unless I get victory now

Q: What happened to the Soviet commentary?
-still in the munitions factory?
Freeboy has been doing a pretty good job of covering most of the details. I had to sacrifice more ground than I would have liked in the Ukraine, in order to keep him away from Moscow and Leningrad. He advanced all the way to the Don, and I was worried I would lose Stalingrad, but he started running out of steam about that point. I was able to cobble together a defense in front of the city and along the Don with Rostov anchoring one end, and solid stacks of units pouring out of Soviet factories into the two HQ's sitting in front of Stalingrad.

Then, I was able to finally get enough breathing room to pull a quick series of one-two punches that caught him off guard in Spring of 1942. Out of the Crimea, I swept into the Ukraine, and flanked his forces attacking Rostov, while a large artillery force gathered just to the east of Rostov to hit his airfields over the river at long range. Next, a huge group of Flak II subformations showed up in the HQ that was launching the attacks against his airfields. I was ready for his counterstrike with a well-placed figher/flak trap that destroyed a large chunk of his airforce in the south. The same airforce that had been punishing me all game long. It was sweet revenge.

Next, I swept down from Voronezh and Orel to hit the northern flank of his forces still caught in the Don basin. There, some of my mobile forces caught some his artillery which likewise had dogged me across half of Mother Russia. This was combined with a frontal attack against his weakened force in front of Stalingrad. He had shifted forces a couple of turns previously to deal with my offensive and spoiling attacks near Rostov.

I've yet to open his turn that came back this evening, where he has apparently taken Rostov. The Summer bonus for the Germans is starting, and the next two months will likely be hell. It's been an awesome game, so far, with a lot of nail-biting moments.

[X(][X(][X(]Hitler is shot and his generals sue for peace, I ran out of troops and supplies, my high water mark is two hex from Lenn five ofr sixe from Moscow and three or four from Staling grad.. I was close , Had his hq almost. five of sixe sides surrounded at Stallingrad.. if I could have gotten that unit it would have fallen imo and been a better game.. longer at least !.. I made several unrecoverable errors in the last few turns, and while I attacked into the area sout hof the Don, he has med t 2 flack 2 and I cannot even think of reasearch as I am streatched to get supplies and troops.. u must win early as the Germans! I am deffinately goingto re read the developer and Tom Webbers aar to see what I missed!

I don't believe Agent S was making a dig at freeboy, but just contrasting his initial confidence with the bitter end's pessimism.

Really though, Matt (freeboy) had me crapping my pants and if he kept going, he might have been able to take Leningrad before his Summer 42 bonus wore off. Even Sevastopol was looking threatened, so it might have been closer than he believed. However, if he failed either or both of those two conquests, the tide would have shifted as soon as the bonus wore off and especially once the Siberian production kicked in for 1943.

As far as the screenshot request goes, I would have to go back and open up some old files, since it seems he didn't enable that option.

Incidentally, even if he did the game overwrites the files, with a new set, at the beginning and end of each turn. I've got two other Russia 42 games going (both as the Axis) and I'm just now realizing that the second of those is overwriting the files from the first and further along game.
