Question: How does the research system work? Is it like Civilization where you research one technology at a time, or is it like games where you assign research points to multiple different areas in with various amounts/priorities and after awhile the technologies gets researched?

Are these very rare minerals/resources/substances needed at some stage to build ships/facilities/etc or can you survive just fine without them?
Higher tech components require resources that are somewhat rarer than others, but you should usually find those resources ok.

Great. I was hoping for that.

BTW: While carriers are interesting, and I would gladly welcome CVs, nothing works better than a huge & glorious battleship. To quote Orks from Warhammer 40K: Big IS best! And I wholeheartedly I agree with that - there is no such thing as too small battleship! [:D]

Lets have some of that:

The subject of the new video is "Expansion" and it should be released tonight, with any luck.

No carriers. Uch-ach.
Carriers are always fun.
THAT will be fun.
Imagine that any system or region have named governor with characteristic and character. If it is wealthy populated region you can add him some advisors to help him take care of things. Remote regions can be used to send not wanted characters some far away from place of powers. Imagine that all of them have their own agenda and political sympaties. Imagine that in political systems that you as ruler dont have full control on your empire- governors are chosen autonousmy by planet or by parlament or senat.
Imagine all that political plots and fight within empire or federation.

I take it you played the leaked MOO3 demo.It had a full system of characters from planetary, system, diplomatic, military and each character had an agenda, ethos, ect before it was cut out of the full version before release.I would love a system like this.

Now here is a really dumb question....what the heck is a 4x space game?

I like the looks of this game for a few reasons. Just don't know all the nomenclatures for this genre of games.

The 4 X's are: eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate. Then set this foundation in a Galaxy full of alien races and you have the basis for a 4X Space game. Most of the Early ones were/are TBS (Turn Based Strategy), while newer ones, like DW, are RTS (Real Time Strategy). I'm and Old Old TBS'er, but can handle RTS if there is a "pause" button.

Well I hope this helps. :)

It helps. I'm an OLD gamer period. Still have over 400 board games of various types. Wargames and space exploration/resource collecting/combat.

It's not so much for me as I have a bevy of Grandkids now that are looking to start gaming. From ages 10-13. DW might be just the thing for them.

Thanks for the quick answer.

Good Hunting.

I love Twilight Imperium. Takes forever to play (setup alone always seems to take a good hour or two), but it's a ton of fun!

Same! Especially if you play with the types of people who play for the love of 4X games and don't really care about winning as quick as possible :) Typical game with our group takes 19-23 hours.. with good night sleep in the middle of course :D

Another question(s) : [;)]
1. Is ship scrapping/mothballing possible?
2. Can we see data of one planet from DW? Tried that in video, but was unable to do so... maybe some big screenshot of the planetary screen [&o]
3. Planets are 2D models (static pictures) or 3D models that rotate?
4. Do we have brown dwarfs?
5. Can we build some mega big mammoth ships (like SW Death star or Borg cubes).
6. Binary and trinary star systems? Are they in the game?
7. Hope that I will like this game like I like Elite/Frontier series [:D]

Elite II was the last of what I guess you guys call 4X space games I've played. That was a while back.

But Elite isnt 4x space.
Look here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4x
4x must be a strategy and Elite wasnt strategy if I am correct. More like space ship simulator(I dont played then  I dont know). Correct me if i wrong.

1. Is ship scrapping/mothballing possible?
Yes, you can retire ships. You can also retrofit them to a new design.
2. Can we see data of one planet from DW? Tried that in video, but was unable to do so... maybe some big screenshot of the planetary screen [&o]
More videos are coming soon. The colonies screen is shown in the Game Controls video (around 5min mark).
3. Planets are 2D models (static pictures) or 3D models that rotate?
Planets are 2D. No rotation, just orbital movement.
4. Do we have brown dwarfs?
Star types: yellow main sequence, red giant, white dwarf, neutron, black holes.
5. Can we build some mega big mammoth ships (like SW Death star or Borg cubes).
Yes
6. Binary and trinary star systems? Are they in the game?
No

I can live with all that... but too bad there are no binary and trinary systems (might be some interesting situations)... and seems to be very few star types ,which is bad, but overall the game seems to be excellent, and I can't wait for it! [:)]
sorry for this little criticism (but as I'e said, havent played game yet, so I'm not qualified to criticize [;)] )
