Didn't most of the Allied AFs use ferry pilots for long-range transfers behind the lines instead of combat pilots? Perhaps that contributed to the high loss rates - inexperience?
Yes, many did. In the USA, WOMEN ("Waacs", for Women's Army Air Corps) were very instrumental in flying interstate military air transfers (next time you transfer a B-25 from Seattle to LA, think about those ladies). There is a wealth of new historical stuff coming out on the role of female pilots in WWII. They were not allowed in combat, so they would not have "combat experience" and therefore I think that is oen fo eth reasons the PACWAR transfer rule is sound. Remember to use those Blenheim 1F's and P-35 Republics fo transfers until you get longer range a/c.
