I gave some planes to 1 VVS-KBF. More transports to feed the partisans.

I made a mistake with the 6th VVS air base. I put some IL-4's there before I remembered I wanted to post all the IL-4's to the Moscow
area so they could reach almost anywhere on the map. I gotta remember to move those next turn.

Of all the planes we have in the force about 148 groups of them are still in the National Reserve. Slightly less than half, just in case
M60 wants to deploy some planes from the Axis Ally No Move Line and southward.

I need the opinion of the community on this one. Here I have the choice of moving the 163rd Mechanized into the city of PSKOV itself
to benefit from the urban terrain, and being on the far side of a river from your attacker or I can leave it in the hex where it is and take
advantage of the level 2 fort. I honestly can't decide which is better. I'm leaving him where he is for now.
Much stronger in Pskov. If it's left where it is it's an oportunity for the Germans.Pioneers will probably reduce the fort and the 163rd will almost certainly rout.In Pskov it's a tough nut to crack and expensive to go around providing that you keep the infantry divisions to the North and South where they are and move another into the swamp to the SE.If it was me I'd leave 163rd out of Pskov altogether and move my best infantry division into the city and I'd put a decent infantry division (2+CV) into the swamp to the SE.This will probably cause the Germans to either waste time going around this position or suffer heavy casualties and delays going through it.
Another thing Larry, you need to defend deeper when faced with strong opening moves from AGN like you had here.Get most of the stuff in behind the rivers. If they go North you can quickly build formidable defences North of Lake Peipus.

Thanks for your post Timmyab.  I agree with everything you said and I value your opinion as I'm still a rank beginner at this.  Sort of.

Those U-2 transport planes are short range, like the other versions of U-2s ( about 9 hex radius from their base ).  They may not have the reach to make drops for partisans.

Yes, I agree that U-2's are almost useless. I like to change them to LI-2's or T-3's ( ? ) or something else, almost anything else. But I can't bring myself to disband them as they might be able to fly some fuel to somebody who needs it. And there is already a shortage of transports on the Soviet side. I'm flying all my transports on night missions and even then I'm loosing a few of them each turn to 'operational losses'. I guess that means that they crashed on the night landing attempt or something.

RE: U-2 Transports, one use they have is that new Transport units will form with those planes. Leave them in the National Reserve to train, and THEN flip them to better transports. That will limit your ops losses.

For the most part, though, you should use Level Bombers for partisan drops. You have much more of them, and can afford high ops losses

Those TB-3 transports aren't in production, are they? Once they start crashing there are no replacements.
The Li-2 are built near Moscow; just one location, and they roll out at a slow rate.  C-47s don't start arriving until 1943.

Not a good situation for the long range transports.

I did some screenshot grabs of the numbers of aircraft groups by type and got the following numbers:
84 U-2's, 638 DB-3B's, 710 IL-4's, 150 PE-2's, 1463 SB-2's, 220 TB-3's, and 367 U-2VS's.

So it's looking like I ought to use the SB-2's to help feed the partisans.

Some reinforcements appeared near Leningrad so I'm using them to set up a defensive screen along the Luga River. It's not going to
stop anybody seriously contesting it however. I'm assigning them to the 27th Army for which I bought 2 RR construction Brigades to help with the digging.

fanfarer is a real pocket player, so Larry and I have to stay focused on defensive depth. This latest turn has the pocket at Zhitomir that does not look particularly hard to break. We want to try to keep Leningrad fighting for a while, so we'll need to keep that area well covered.

Week 3

Post by M60A3TTS »

We moved 8 arms factories from Vsevolzhsky, 7 from Leningrad and 2 from Kiev to Molotov. We also moved 1 T-50 factory from Leningrad to Sverdlovsk. We'll look to pull another 15 arms out next week as well.

We added 30th Army to the rolls and sent them off to Leningrad to aid in the city defense. A good number of units in the area were set to refit.

We also escaped out of one loose pocket near Kiev. Looks like fuel is an issue for some of his fast moving divisions. Most of our stuff is out of the Pripet Marshes. The Axis is up to the Dnepr in the center. In the area of Southwestern and Southern Fronts, I need to start reorganizing divisons somewhat.

Air forces for the southern regions are adequate for future operations.

One thing about this joint game, Larry and I have the understanding that he can take the game and run solo with it any time he feels the desire. I'm hoping that may not happen too soon, as I'd hate to get fired like Pavlov did. [;)]

This is the turn 3 Soviet moves. We're pulling back in some places and standing firm in others.
