I uninstalled and rebooted. Then I tried that method you listed out in detail (great job by the way). I still get the error with the game menu using that specific install order.

Also, Matrix Support suggested to reinstall the update in Safe Mode. Tried it and still received the error loading the game menu with v10120.

All total, I've tried installing and re-installing the game about a dozen times in all manor and methods I could think of but still have the same resulted error with the v10120 game menu.

I appreciate all the suggestions and hope the dev team can find that needle. At least I can play the game which is the most important part. [:D]

well i can replicate the error also, but apart from making a new shortcut i can't improve it more than that either, so it's back to them i'm sorry to say, glad at least you now play it anyway, i'll have another go later today and try something different as i don't give up if i have spare time[;)]

My last update from support said they can't replicate it at all on their end, but this forum shows at least four users with the issue. Any ideas as to the common factor here?

Do all the reporters have Torch ?
The autorun seems to load some stuff from an external site (either Matrixgames or slitherine, the "you may also like" ad) so something may be broken/blocked by hypersensitive AV software.
BTW it's really bad behaviour to start IE if clicking on links, completely ignoring default browser setting.

i'm only a community mod so don't have fully access to everything either, so no idea if there's any common factors at all i'm sorry to say, a work around and a fix are totally different, so all the data would be needed to get a fix working for all those involved etc, and only staff support have that data or access to it to make a patch or fix.

Yes, I do have Torch expansion. You may be on to something...I did try a few install attempts with no AV installed (except Windows Defender). But, I wonder if its related to having Windows 10 Edge as the default web browser?

My test setup would be: Torch add-on installed, Win 10 Home, Edge as default browser, no AV but do have Defender running.

I'm not currently at a game friendly location (aka work), but I'll give this a try later today.

That pretty much kills my browser theory. I wonder if it makes a difference if the updates are done through the game menu updater rather than doing it directly from the downloaded file (run as Admin). I have not yet tried updating it through the previous version's game menu...?

i've tried and tested both methods tbh, i've even had a go at not installing Torch at all, which oddly worked flawlessly but have no idea why or what's the difference either as all patches are comprehensive, so shouldn't really matter if Torch is added or not, but it seems it does on my first few tests, have posted my results and will now wait to see an official reply, would be nice of all those with the issue, and that's 4 i think, posted there DxDiag reports so we could find a common ground, plus AV / Firewall and browser used etc to rule somethings out.

So if I understand correctly, you installed v1, then up to latest patch (did not install Torch) and the game menu worked fine?

If so, were you able to install Torch last after that? Did the game menu work then, or did the Torch install break it?

yes

yes to install Torch last, then re patch to latest version again, which also broke the shortcut and auto updater again as before [:(]

game works flawlessly with a new shortcut made tbh, but the old one, the auto run and auto game updater doesn't work, but all aren't needed anyway, new shortcut made lets you play the game, auto run only is a front end, auto updater is only the same as site ftp posts and links which we all have access to anyway[&o]

AFAIR The autorun program shows different content if Torch is installed. There may be a failure in detecting Torch/WitW properly or in loading the additional content.
Likely only solvable by those who programmed it if working together with affected people.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Hopefully Matrix will get to this next week and figure out what changed with the game menu.

Good news everyone, tech support has been able to reproduce the issue which means they should be able to debug it for a fix:
Thanks for all your patience. OK I was able to reproduce the issue and passed all the information to the production team. The issue is related with Operation Torch. We will fix this on the next patch.

For the moment in order to play the game you'll need to open the game folder, find the file named "WarInTheWest.exe" and run it.

We apologize for all the inconvenience.

UPDATE! FIXED WITH Ver 10137!

I just wanted to confirm that this issue has been fixed as of update v10137. The game menu and auto-update now work.

Thanks everyone for the help!!!
