Zoetermeer, I just looked at the Ship Type Carrying Ability Table in the manual and yes, it does say an AV can carry an air group as cargo. I just tried it in my game and it didn't work for me, either. I got the same "unable to allocate any load to any ships" message that you did. (FWIW, the table also says an AG cannot carry an air group.)

Anyway, don't use an aircraft tender (AV) to carry an air group. Any AP or AK type will do the job nicely, and you have plenty of these. Use a transport or cargo TF. Makes no difference.

The best way to transport an air group, IMO, is to use an air transport task force made up of AKVs. The groups will transport as cargo, but when they arrive they will be ready to fly.

Thanks, that is super helpful. I'll just stick to doing that where I can. I've read AAR's where people use their CV's to shuttle groups back and forth, for example from PH to Midway early in the war; but it seems like a misuse of CV's to do this.

It was reality, preferably transport aircraft for carrier. Several of US CVE had most of their existence transporting aircraft. Most Japanese CVE operated to transport aircraft and only at war end started to be employed for convoy ASW escort sometimes doing both missions.

Trouble of packing aircraft and dissemble several parts of them, not damaging them by dock workers etc are, this is one thing that the game doesn't not simulate very well.

Edit another is that squadrons never suffer heavy operational losses while transit big distances. Should have been more variety.

6.3.2.3.1 SHIP TYPE CARRYING ABILITY TABLE:

This is a little vague. They mean planes equipped with floats. And very few can carry any. Mostly, park them at an island and transfer float planes to them within the limits of the ship.

BB nailed down the rest....GP

Actually, I looked again and make a correction now. Air groups can be loaded onto regular AKs as well, but they will arrive in a 'damaged' state and require at least 1 turn to be ready to fly. To simulate having to reattach the wings, etc.

IIRC, if transported on a CVE, the aircraft arrive undamaged.

Only some Japanese AV can transport float planes. Allied can't. The table doesn't explain this well. They can only transport float planes no land based air at all but from what I remember I think they can also operate them. Allied AV provide Aviation support for a base. When you see aviation support in the base screen you sometimes see x+y
the X value is support for all air types the y value is just float support from AV ships

Not so. See the picture of AV Wright below - it has capacity for four aircraft and some players have reported using them to search while in transit.

Re: the AV providing aviation support for the base - that is ONLY true for patrol/float aircraft. The AV air support will not repair land based aircraft.

Greetings All <S>

Thank you to all who participated in this thread. I found it very helpful as I was struggling trying to transport air groups as well. I found the directions in the Manual a bit "Vague" lol on exactly how to Mechanically in Sequence go about actually moving an air group by various Cargo Type shipping.

Thank you again to all 8-)
