Buzzard:
IIRC, I saw your plane attacked when I watched the playback but I didn't saw any barrages, though barrage-messages appeared. ...I don't know, it's not so important.
Now I'm waiting for Brits attack, this have been very educational battle for me, I've learned new things ;)

I was able to kill some Brits in the middle this time but I'm quite sure that will cost me some units at Buzzard's next turn.
I know that he is concentrating his forces behind the central hill and he'll attack soon, aren't you Buzzard? :)

I killed 2 Jeeps, Crusader AA Mk2, Achilles and Matilda.
Some infanftry casualties again to both sides.

Heavy British barrage in the central hill at the end of turn and it caused some supression to both sides, I'm sure about that.

Happy hunting Buzzard.

Yes ,dangit. I coulda used those units this turn. I was expecting a probe not an all out assault. There were three tanks and two more on the hill and at least two more behind. So many infantry that I lost count. And advanced infantry, way ahead of the armour. It was running the last I saw of it, but your OP took out some HTs that I will miss.

I tried an advance in south as well but it didn't go far. Too many FT engineers. They were suppressed but still had plenty of OP fire. They are running now but not far enough and I saw more tanks on my pass-over. A Typhoon took a hit, you'll be happy to know.

Corporal Baker, "Bloody 'ell, look at all those Yanks. Scads of the lubbers. Let's give em what for lads. King and Country!!!!" The Corporal urges his men forward only to be pinned by 30cal fire from the far ridge. Elements of C company give covering fire and they advance once more but they receive as good as they give. Smoke here and there shows units in retreat. The AA units come to lend a hand against an enemy AA gun on the same ridge. More HE from TD units and Lees show its a determined effort but the Yanks hold their ground. The Corporal hears the distinctive sound of High speed anti-tanks round and the resultant clank and secondary explosions. He thinks to himself "Now we be givin' it to 'em, governa."

"There must be 20 MG jeeps following the force to do mop up of stragglers." (Okay not 20 but a lot.) thinks Sgt Rock as he watches British tommie section after section break cover and send his boys wrealling backward. "Hold you yer ground " He cries. "Take cover and hold your ground, the armor will get them. Hold them until the armor gets here" Sgt Rock has forgotten about the 17pdrs. Armour is not coming!! Those that dare will be short lived.  :D :D

Brits are pushing forward very effectively in the middle sector and I'm in troubles soon in there :(

Still I killed Achilles, two Lees and couple of other vehicles this time.
One Lee in the middle was killed by Bazooka team and one in the south by Sherman after it was luckily survived from Lee's assault.:)
Brits had some luck too. IIRC, another Achilles behind the central hill ws hit by a flamethrower, but it survived.

I'm still waiting for Brit's attack there in the same hill and I know there's a lot of stuff behind it...and they're coming closer...

At the end of turn, British heavy artillery dropped some more shells to the neck of my forces.
I hope also I don't see those Typhoons there anymore since they have caused enough ruin already.

Beginning of the end

Post by Buzzard45 »

The Buzzard now holds all the VHs except the Sandman's home hexes. If he can hold onto them.....

Sandman comes with more armour than I expect and my 17pdrs have their eyes closed. It seems many units have their eyes closed. Such is life on the battlefield.

I limit my assaults to the most easiest targets. Routed tanks and tanks advanced beyond infantry support. That leaves only three easy targets. Sandman still needs more softening with Arty. I'll see what I can find. His mortars have been doing some damage themselves. I may need to target that arty park again. It looks like he is still there or IS he? With GaryT's advice I think he has probably moved and the airstrikes see nothing.

Time to bring in reinforcements for the last push. They'll have a long way to travel. There are just no short routes on my side of the map. I wonder where my infiltrators went?

All I can do now is to kill as many enemy vehicles as possible without major friendly losses.
I waiting for my reinforcements too and I hope they don't arrive at too late.

In the south my infantry squad destroyed one more Lee and it seems like there are not much dangerous vehicles anymore in the southern flank, though I can't be sure about that case.

In the middle I was able to hurt badly one of Buzzard's 17 pdr AT-gun, it lose few mens in the firing of 50 cal HMG.
Two tanks was eliminated as well, Matilda by Sherman and Achilles by infantry squad.

Heavy British barrage finished the turn again.

Back to you Buzzard.

50cal are overly strong

Post by Buzzard45 »

I hate them things.  . They fire too often and route too slow and kill too much for what they are. But they cost lots too.

I sent 2 of them realing back and routed a third but none are gone. It was lot of work but the Heavies prepared two AFVs for destruction. I got a 3rd on the central hill. The valley is almost mine and most of the central hill but Sandman clings tenaciously to it.

Great assault BTW, Sandman. Routed my infantry and then closed on my blind tanks to kill them.
The south is holding its ground and reinforcements are on the way. Once I hold the Valley, the south is effectively flanked and not in a good position to hold. I should have taken it first. The North is mainly quiet.

Back to you Sandman. Do your worst.:(

Not much happened at my turn, because most part of my remaining troops are under heavy supression :(
I was able to kill only one Achilles and couple of slighter vehicles. Soon Buzzard is going to make a strong push in the central hill and after that he have a quite clear way to my rear VH's :(

I'm going to lose this one, that's sure thing, but I believe that yankees can fight about five more turns before they will be totally slayed.

And the good thing is that we're both going to round 4 anyway.:)

Sandman did better than I did

Post by Buzzard45 »

I didn't manage to brew up any vehicles this turn. I am waiting for reinforcements and I see an AUX scout coming over the far hill. That means that Sandman's are coming and are much closer than mine.
I send more arty into the centre hill. There is so much damage and dead vehicles on it that I cannot advance with my slower vehicles.

I don't like this winter play. It exaggerates the slow movement IMO and the "on again, Off again" visibility is just plain frustrating. Units fire thru smoke and then I can't see thru the smoke the other way. I set up smoke screens and Sandman fires through them. He sets them up and I fire through them. I prefer it when rules of all types stay as rules not as exceptions. Movement is likewise. 10 movements and you can't move more than one hex. Or it shows that you can move but then stops you short. GRRR.  Its a funny game this one.

I agree with you, this is a funny battle:rolleyes:

Not much happened again.
Couple of mens have been killed from both sides and I lose one badly damaged M3 Lee to 17pdr At-gun.
Buzzard lose Jeep and Crusader AA Mk2.
I'm running low on mens in the central hill because of Buzzard barrages and I think that Buzz are organizing his troops behind the hill.
My reinforcements are arrived, yes, but I need to use them wiselyv now.

British Typhoons failed to do any damage to my units.
Your turn Buzzard.

More wierd stuff

Post by Buzzard45 »

Smoke continues to be a part time things and costs me again.

I got the 2 of those 50cal but can't find the other one. Its there but is invisible from the next hex. It fired on my troops and then stayed silent. I think that it is playing possum..

My Airborne in the south had a little success but Sandman still hold some important ground and has taken back two VHs. I got a lucky top hit from a Mortar to take out a Sherman down there. I lost track of the Lees. I hit another Sherman and IM'd it but he may cost me an Achilles. I can ill afford to lose any TDs as I see Sandman has bought more Shermans as well as a company of Mech infantry. I hope my back up comes some time soon.

Arty is still having a nap, for the most part, after their big exersion for a turn and a half.

Not sure how to handle his Mech company yet. I may need to back up a bit. I'll see what happens in this turn.

Happy Hunting , Sandman. Its a good game other than the AI anomolies.

Not much again, Killed an Achilles in the central hill and a halftrack in the south.
Mostly moving my reinforcement units forward and tried to locate them to good hiding-places, though we can't know what is an good hiding place in this map, even the smoke can't help in that case

Buzzard had another lucky top hit from his mortar at the end of turn, my M3 Lee was damaged and decrewed this time. :(

Happy hunting Buzz, I think you'll finish me soon since I know your AUX units are coming, I spotted a halftrack already.

The AUX are coming.

Post by Buzzard45 »

Sandman's luck this time. All my arty missed. I guess I should have used the real FO's instead of snipers.

I clean up more units in the south and central valley. Several infantry units disperse and several 35mm AA are pinned or hopefully routed. One in the north has fallen victim to a scout patrol. Its the battle of the little guys as the are no decent targets for my ATG's there. Four AA units are in my sights and will soon be ineffective.

I tried to rid myself of that pesky 50 cal in the south with Z fire but it took revealing an infantry unit to make him show himself. By then I had shot off my rounds. Next time maybe.

More heavy arty fell on the central hill but too far back to hit any of the AUX Mech Units. They should step right into the next volley, if it comes.:p

That Sherman that I IM'd at the sacrifice of a TD came back to life at the end of the turn. :o I should have sent some kind of fire at it to keep it pinned but..... I am down to under 20 AFV's, I may have to by more TD's with my remaining points. If Sandman doesn't fall into my trap.

Watch yourself Sandman!! There is more out there than meets the eye.:p :p :o

Absolutely nothing from me, waiting for Buzzard's attack with support of his AUX units and killed couple of Brits in passing :)

British heavy artillery dropped its shells to the same place as last time - no casualties.
Almost all of my mens are died in the south, Buzzard rules there also.:(
Back to you again Buzz.

Its slowing down

Post by Buzzard45 »

Sandman is afraid (and rightly so )to come into the barrage on the centre hill. I send 3in Morars to fill in for the 5.5 that are letting the gun tubes cool a bit.

I concentrated on taking out 35mmAA and clearing the south hill. The lowly scout took on the most northern and wiped out the crew as well as the gun. There is one more up there that has casualties. The centre AA guns are routed and one is retreating. The central hill is still disputed but its too slow to assault through the shell holes. I need another tact.

A typhoon makes a late pass and reveals a line of mech assault troops with tank support guarding the last set of VHs. Do I have time to take them? I don't know:rolleyes:

Do I need to? Is a better question.

Turn 16

Post by sandman20 »

Not much for me again.
My AT-gun killed one British truck in the south and in the central hill we eliminated couple of Brits.
I just wait for Buzzard's attack...if he even is going to attack...I think he's planning something, turn around the hill maybe
Anyway, back to you Buzzard.

turn 18

Post by sandman20 »

Not much happened within last 2-3 turns.
The end is near, but I have still few Shermans and some other stuff available, so I'm not totally slayed yet:rolleyes:

It seems like Buzzard have drove his tanks to the new positions, at least I haven't seen but one Lee in the valley between two central hills.
Quite a lot of moving in the south, AUX units are coming with support of AT & AA guns.

Though it's sure I'm gonna lose this, I still want to see what happens in couple of next turns, so I don't want to surrender yet.:)
Back to you Buzzzz.

The Achilles are coming

Post by Buzzard45 »

More reinforcements are coming. Mostly transport but a few TDs as well.

I have the Sandman doing a back up for most of the map but he continues to come forward in others. I found an AT unit coming out of a corn feild. I couldn't figure out why my willy meter went off on unit behind the hill. I sent a truck down the road and up pops this AT. I sent a halftrack after it and routed it but had to send some others to help out.

Moving cautiously forward. ridge top to ridge top, I spot an FO running away. He's not running anymore, kinda having a dirt nap.

Sandman has at least 4 Shermans and still most of a company of Mech Infantry and is still dangerous. His straight ahead style is working against him as I see he is preparing for another advance. I always lose some units when he does that but he takes losses as well. There is a distinct lack of artilery fire from the Sandman lately. No more 105HTs showed up and no off map artillery. I targeted his 81mm park with 5.5's so that is quiet for the time being. I think he has probably bought ammo for them although none have been spotted. 1400 reinforcement points buys more than a company and a couple of Shemans.

My ATGs and 40mm AA have taken a small toll of vehicles but no AFVs yet. OP isn't what it used to be. Still, I'm happy to see the Scout cars with their 50cals being eliminated. Pop up that Sherman for another shot from the 17pdrs. They'd love that. It isn't often 17pdrs miss from less than 20 hexes:D

Back to you Sandman. I wrote another AAR but I must not have submitted it:confused:

Sandman: Do you want to get on with the WC03? We can still finish this if you want. I doubt if you'll get by the rest of my ATGs and their accompaning MGs and AA units, you are welcome to try. If you want to let RED know we'll carry on with the next round.

But let's finish this one over, at least couple of more turns:)

Turn 19

Post by sandman20 »

I decided to push forward a little bit this turn and it was quite a worth decision.
In the south I got 2 Crusader AA Mk 2's and one probably lost its main turret.

In the central hill Buzzard's 17 pdr AT gun tried to hit my Sherman but it failed to hit two or three times.
That same Sherman destroyed a Lee from Brits, so I had some luck this time.:) :)
Now I spotted more tanks in the valley, Matildas, Achilles's and at least one more Lee.

Heavy British barrages continued at the end of turn, though now they let my artypark alone.
