Buy her (silk) flowers with those ribbons, buy or make her confections (if you want some easy recipes for things like fudge or truffles, let me know) not to mention her favorite adult beverage to go with such things, a card bought or homemade, plus the meal. Remind her that you love her but don't wait until Valentine's Day.

Do not forget a nice tea like PG Tips or Yorkshire. Nothing quite says I Love you like a good cuppa or a tea with biscuits. Digestives are a starter but English toffee can be good and easy to make but person given to thinks it must be difficult, probably like Joe's above.

When you get up many times a day to make yourself a cuppa you just bring her one.

But actually I like Joe's best.

She stood by him in his direst need.

I have a recipe for fudge where you don't have to cook anything.[:D]
You can even make Rocky Road Fudge.[:D]

Microwave peanut brittle.[:D]

Truffles where the only cooking is melting chocolate chips in the microwave.[:D]

Don't forget chocolate crisps! Ruffled potatoe crisps (potato chips to people from the United States of America - no other comment at this time) dipped in melted chocolate! [:D]

It is the Irish or Scottish breakfast that I find strong. Although I drink milky cat’s piddle for English it is still strong for Americans, or should I say “Yanks”. Takes about 4-6 bags of Lipton in a tea cup to get some sort of tea taste. Know that Lipton is not good tea but the other brands called “English Breakfast” are just brutal, weak and expensive. Not sure why called English Breakfast cause they are just not right.

I am with HRH and go with Yorkshire, despite my youthful days. But where I now live it is a bit of challenge to find so tend to go with PG Tips or PG Tips Gold. They are in the super markets.

Americans seeing me having brought my own leaves often ask what is wrong with the tea they have, after tasting mine cannot believe how wonderful the English tea is. Just one sip and they are converted. Just got to get them to start asking for Digestives so I could get them in the stores; but for now Amazon.

Joe, does that mean Tulagi can draw supply from Lunga? I always thought the "adjacent" condition was when both hexes are attached by land, i.e. two bases adjacent to each other on coastal hexes. If I am hearing your correctly, the supply can be ported across from Lunga to Tulagi? If that is true it will ease my woes, somewhat.

Sorry for being dense. I'd rather answer a question and look stupid, rather than remain silent, appear smart but actually be dumb.

Just finished turn 8. I sent my carriers over towards Milne Bay. They overkilled [39 bomb and torpedo] hits on five Marus and a patrol boat, 100% sunk. They were trying to bring supplies/troops to Buna. If I can keep this up the 144th and supporting units on the Kokoda trail will be picking through Aussie dung for undigested corn niblets.

I'm loading up most of the 114th group at Luganville in an attempt to get them into Lunga so they can get to work on Henderson Field and the base. A bit later I will try to get the remainder of the 114th and an engineer unit over there. To cover them I am swinging the carriers back and will soon assemble an amphibious unit at Noumea to try what you guys have advised, a midnight drop and run.

Well, that is all for tonight. Going to hit the rack early and watch a film with the administration. I find I can get absorbed in a game to the exclusion of all else, so I have to make sure to schedule "us" time so she doesn't get resentful. Actually, she's rather pleased that I am tackling a game like this after my brain surgery. For two years afterwards I could not get into anything deep. No book reading for two years, which is tough on a guy like me who likes to get through 2-3 books a week when possible. I think she's pleased that I've bitten into something that challenges my intellect and planning. I still struggle with short term memory issues, so this game is a form of rehab for my brain.

Edit: P.S. I have lost 9 planes in 8 days to operational losses. Is this excessive? Two Wildcats crashed on landing after tangling with Zeros near Milne Bay, as well as an SBD landing back on the carrier.
The ports have to face each other across adjacent hexes and clear ocean hexside. The amount that moves across daily is limited by the size of the smallest port, and it flows automatically from less demand to higher demand. I think a level 1 port is about 50 points of supply daily.

EDIT: Op losses after combat cannot be helped, except by higher Pilot Experience which comes from ... combat! [:D]
Can't assess the level of ops losses without knowing a whole lot of stuff about how many missions flown, type, distance, how critical the mission is, etc. So as always "It depends".

Thanks, BB. I noticed that Tulagi has had a subsistence level of supply for a couple of turns, so it must be drawing some from Lunga via those invisible little boats. I tried for several hours to go to sleep last night, no luck, so I went into the other room and dug out my manual and binder to reread the relevant bits and it confirms what you said. I thought the concept applied only to adjacent bases on the same coastline, but obviously the supply can cross one hex, without conscious player action, just like those little dot bases change hands via the "canoe" squads.

Joe, good suggestions as always. She likes chocolate, but when I get her some she complains about not needing it and if she eats too much it gives her complexion problems. Damned if I do and damned if I don't. Nonetheless, another taker here for chocolate recipes.

I've been a chocolate junkie since childhood, when I would do almost anything for chocolate bar. One time my mother caught me hiding in the cabinet under the sink [like Randy in A Christmas Story] eating Nestles Quik chocolate mix powder out of the can with a spoon. I got a good smack for that; not for eating the powder the way I did, but because I knew I should not be doing that and by hiding I knew I was doing wrong. Mom was strict that way, she'd let you get away with a lot of things due to ignorance, but do something wrong when you knew it was wrong was a guaranteed ticket to a whupping.

I sustained my addiction with a sideline gig as an errand boy. My parents were the superintendents of an apartment building; I'd make trips to the store for the tenants, picking up their cigarettes and such. I'd get paid with tips or told to buy a chocolate bar and add it to the bill. I made even more for special assignments, like going through the milk chute to open the door when they locked themselves out. Or get paid to keep my mouth shut when I saw something I wasn't supposed to see.

Some small boats like Higgins boats were left behind. Could you imagine trying to get all of those in the game?[X(]

A couple of suggestions for her complexion:

1) Wet a cloth with a 5% acid solution - household vinegar! - and wipe the face and any dry skin areas with that. It helps to get rid of skin fungus as well but there it stings. It removes the dead skin which should help unclog the pores.

2) Use the alcohol gel on the skin. It will also help get rid of fungus where it might sting - but not as much! It will help unclog pores including wiping out the ones for whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples.

I will make a separate thread for some recipes here, not on the General forum.

Holy cow, Joe, it's not that bad. She just notices that if she eats too much chocolate she'll get one little red bump. She doesn't break out like Alfred E. Neuman. [:D]

There is always shortbread, in Canada you might be able to get real currants. It is easy to make but is not dehydrating like the store bought stuff. Or you could make some maple candy, English Toffee. But would probably get the same result from the admin.

First time I tried Hersey's chocolate bar started gaging and spit is out. Tasted like a sweet, dirty candle (waxy) to me. Not sure if it has gotten better or my taste has changed. No longer need to be brave to eat it, but still prefer Lindt or Cadburys.

My weakness as child was butter; could just eat it plain in those single serve sticks or sample pats. [:D]

I was thinking it was weight. Was going to suggest you offer to have her jog by the car when you passed her the treats out the driver window. [:D]

You just made me spit milk out my nose!

All these suggestions are fine, but I'm not the cook/chef in this household, she is. English farmer's daughter, taught culinary skills from childhood by her mother. Not many men can truthfully say their wife is a better cook than their mother, but I can. I almost never do anything in the kitchen, except warm something up and wash dishes.

Shortbread? She makes it around Christmas every year using a recipe from the Royal Household. Makes desserts like profiteroles enrobed in home made chocolate sauce, lemon parfaits and many other goodies. Homemade Yorkshire puddings, toad-in-the-hole, specialty roasted mini potatoes, stoneware roasted chicken, pork loins, etc. I could go on all day. I'm a lucky dog to have her.

Have her put some alcohol gel on it then. Then, if she is going out, either concealer or some thing to make it look like a beauty mark like what Cindy Crawford has.

Tell her that you still love her anyway . . .

Shortbread sounds fun mine was from a woman from London who was evacuated during the Blitz to a Scottish farm where she got the recipe.

Mmm pasties, Cock-a-leekie soup, Anglesey Eggs, Bangers and Mash, Irish Stew, Wassail, plumb pudding, Welsh Rarebit, etc. I tend to make the English or other ethnic dishes (Italian, Thai, Vietnamese), she is an American and pretty much makes the rest; foods sound familiar. I also can say the same and my mother was quite the cook. Only problem is trying to keep off the weight with such good food, biscuits, pastries about. Could go on all day about both the variety and fabulous taste, and I do somewhat with her. Her mac cheese is something else. I am okay with mac cheese but it is more of a comfort food not a destination food. Somehow she manages to make it into a meal you would order at a fine Italian Restaurant.

I have seen Yorkshire pudding at stores but as it is so easy to make I do not know why one would pay for someone to measure the eggs (powdered at that), flour for you to add milk. Can not imagine it tasting that good.

Come now not in the kitchen. Does she fetch all your tea as well! If so I am jealous. I am rather particular about my tea, both in preparation and type, but at 15 or more cups a day it would be nice to have someone keeping a constant supply on hand. My son and I used to work as a team but he had to go and grow up and leave.

Careful with that tea, it contains oxalates which can cause kidney stones and clog things up. The acetic acid in vinegar helps clear them out. I passes a 9mm kidney stone once . . . [:D][:D] Very little discomfort!

Yes, but am not willing to give up my tea. Was always hoping the green tea in English breakfast would help stop it. Or at least one or more of the 20 some different leaf varieties in it would.

Could easily be but am not aware if British have more kidney stones than other peoples who drink less tea. At least in my day about 14 cups was pretty average.

My stepmother used to run a school lunchroom where the children wanted to eat the school lunch! Nothing pre-made but from scratch. If the children ate everything on their plate, they could get up to six slices of bread and gravy, two slices at a time. She only went through five gallons of gravy a day.

Even if you are not "master" in the kitchen, if you try, make something decent and especially don't leave a mess, that should be appreciated. Besides, if she becomes ill then she knows that you can provide for yourself![;)]
