One lovely upgrade to the system in WiS is the Status Report, which tells you if a unit has move orders with no destination, or a TF is idle, or if an air unit has fewer pilots than aircraft - quite a number of issues that one might overlook when making orders in such a large game (like AE). The best part is that you can click on each line item in that report and it will take you directly to the location and unit in question.

Apparently one of the developers like WITP:AE so much, he thought of how he could make it better. So this is his vision for the game system and why the interface looks so much like WITP:AE.
It did make it easier for me to learn the game without a manual.

Actually, the naval war in the mediterranean was super intense, as long as it lasted, although major naval encounters between capital ships were not so frequent (could be counted with one hand or one and a half). Just think of the ongoing DESPERATE struggle to resupply Malta, or the epic struggle of the royal navy to impede the resupply of Libya, there is a reason why most of royal navy's losses were suffered in the Med.

Thing is, these convoy battles are poorly suited into WitP-AE engine.

And while Pedestal etc. operations were impressive and intense indeed, most of the continuous action was by submarines and torpedo bombers from Malta. And subsequent German/Italian efforts to suppress the island.

Thing like Taranto and Cape Matapan were more of an exception, considering Regia Marina's lack of fuel and reluctance to engage.

I guess War in Med could be made, but would it be good idea?

There have been board games made around this theme and I see no reason why a computer game should not work. One of the biggest problem would be all the historical event the happened in Europe, everything is much much closer requiring far more inderaction than when playing WitP.

I personnally don't think it is a good idea, but don't neighsay, and doubt it would attract anywhere like the interest and longlivity that WitP has. I also don't think Spain will either for that matter.

My hope is it's a stepping stone too WitP AE 3 and beyond ;)

I remember playing Uncommon Valor. Then hearing of War in the Pacific just before it was released. I thought at the time that it seemed like UV was a test bed for WITP. Maybe that is happening here? Now if you excuse me, I have to pull my head out of the clouds....

If I had the money, being a fan fanatic, I'd be happy to have WitP-AE 2.
