I used Andrew Brown’s most recent map, which was an extended map with additional bases, and which didn’t match Andy Mac’s revised scenarios.

I started in March/April of 2023 and after a hiatus of about 2 months I got going on it in earnest in late July. The game crashed on September 2, 2023 and was unsalvable. I concluded that there were errors in the underlying saves going back to early-on that finally caused it to collapse, particularly the issues with the extended map, the new bases and some of the units in the updated order of battle.

After the crash, and in anticipation of the final, final, and they mean really final version, I restarted the game using the same folder as the previous game and even the same first turn in November 2023.

For whatever reason, and probably because I didn’t make the errors with moving off map naval units to and from the new off map bases, (you just need to be careful), I have only had one problem with a corrupted save over the past year and half. That corrupted save has affected the use of Tracker for naval units (I have started Tracker over 9 times now as it fills up – that isn’t the problem) but not, from my experience, the game itself.

I did experience the “supply” problem, I think it was early 1943. Since I am playing against the computer, I just went into editor and changed the setting for some bases, I don’t remember which, probably SD, SF and EUSA, to match an earlier version of the game.

It is presently 2/44, auto victory is in the past. Andy’s AI is being a pest in China and in the sea lanes between CONUS and Pearl. I am wondering when the Kamikazes will show up in earnest, only 1 attack so far. (What would a 4 X 40mm Oerlikon do to a Shahed drone - but then a ship moving at 30 Kn may be is easier to defend than a whole country). That and needing to learn better how to mount an Amph attack against a heavily fortified base is why I have continued playing while awaiting the final . . .
OP,

You don't say it explicitly, but it appears that you are playing an AI game.

The AI does NOT know the extended map. It does NOT know about the new bases, thus it can FAIL. The AI files only work with the ORIGINAL MAP. I am not aware of any AI files that work with any of the extended map versions. Extended maps are for PBEM games only.

If you wish to play an extended map game against the AI, you will need to update the AI files to include all of those new bases. Not impossible, but it is tedious.

Good Luck!!!

PS: For this reason I only play the original map. I have added countless bases to that map to help the AI perfom better. The AI fights better from bases as opposed to non-base hexes. So, just adding bases in areas where the AI is already scripted to fight will help it perform better. The devs did this in Malay and Burma for this reason in their updates. I have done this a LOT in some other areas like south china.

If you add bases in "new" areas like the outback of OZ or Mongolia or any of the "blank" areas of the map, you will need to update/tweak the AI scripts so that the AI knows that those bases exist and how to use them. It is not hard to do this, but it is really, really tedious. I have done a little of this, but it is just so time consuming. For the same reason, the devs have not done so much of this because simply put, if the game never goes there, then the effort is wasted. How many AI games actually fight in Canada? or NW Russia? or NW OZ? The lack of bases in these areas and the absence of any AI is due to this rationale. I remain in awe of Andy Mac.

ALL HAIL THE ANDY MAC!!!!!

So just to summarize:

43% use the latest 28 exe.

Everyone else is mostly using 26 and 27.

Players are apparently a conservative bunch ;)
