I think it's an aberation, but I'm not going to claim this kind of thing doesn't happen in UV. It happens all the time. However, over the course of months of gameplay lots of other stuff happens too. A lot of what you are seeing has to do with things going on in the game that aren't visible to the player. You see TF's on the screen, but don't see that the AI sees a TF with a detection level of 1 and thus doesn't know exactly what it is while seeing other TF's with highter detection levels. How many Japanese carrier planes attacked the Sims and Neosho in the battle of the Coral Sea due to a bad detection level on the US TF. Stuff happens and if you can't get over the fact that you cannot control your attacks on enemy TFs, you probably won't enjoy the game. My guess is that the more you really like detailed tactical carrier games (like Flat Top), the less willing you'll be to give up that control to gain the operational nature of UV. I'd suggest trying at least a 3 month scenario (or longer) before you give up, because you might find you like other aspects of the game enough to put up with the lack of control over the airstrikes. It would be nice if people would chime in on their experiences. Well, I'm off to Origins now.
All understanding comes after the fact.
