RE: "It's the economy, stupid" BTSL NY59G (J) vs Gen Patton (A)
Two nights ago I started a full disk scan using Norton’s anti-virus program. When I woke up in middle of night it wouldn’t start. It tried to self diagnose and repair without success. My tower is now at Computer Pro for repair.
Two mornings in row drinking coffee WITHOUT a turn to run has me experiencing moderate withdrawal symptoms. Another day or two may require professional help. [:D]

Silly me, I thought NORTON was an anti-virus?

Computer fixed!! [&o][&o]
I broke down and have gone with SSD (Solid State Drive). However, while files have been transfer to SSD (E) many things have links or addresses back in old HD (C) drive.

I'm getting an old error that I've seen before when starting the game....Unable to find PW data
What is the fix for this?!?
Under properties I have:
Target: "E:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition - Brian\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -deepColor -archive -dd_sw -px1920 -py1080 -w
Start in: "E:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition - Brian\Beta2"

43 Sept: The war has continued on in various theaters through 24th.
India - We have had brief A2A over the skies of Bombay. George and Frank have ruled the skies while sweeping even when outnumber by his Hurricanes. He now declines to rise up.
China - Chungking is still the place where over 160 Chinese LCUs are now hiding. I'm bombing from air with about 120 Helen/Lily. Sian holds out, but is totally isolated. On Sept 24th, I got 2:1 and brought forts down to 2. Resting troops for another week. The other remaining siege is 1 SE of Ankang.
Aleutians - Brian (Allies) has had moderate success sending in Bombardment TF to hit Cold Bay, Akutan, and even Kodiak. On Sept 8th, Jills from Kodiak put 3 TT hits on BC Constellation. She limped away. KB-4 and a SC TF with the two Nagato Class BBs are now back to Adak.
Western Australia - I had thought Brian was going to go after Carnarvon. He sent multiple Bombardment TFs to base, but no invasion and no troops coming up trail from Geraldton. This allowed me to reinforce the area. KB-2 and multiple SC TF moved into area. I was patrolling north of Exmouth waiting to pounce. Now, just recon flights from both sides.
Then on 24th, the limited Japanese Intel showed ships between Canton Island and Line Islands. KB-1 & 3 left Tulagi with 2x SC TF. The bases in Central Pacific - Tabiteuea, Baker, and others have been under recon for weeks......

43 Sept 25th: Allied invasion forces spotted!! [X(]
Subs:
I-169 & I-170 both hit off Tanna
SS Permit gets a TT hit on small TK 6 north of Broome. Of course that is enough to sink her.
SoPac:
Tanna - My outpost is finally invaded
CenPac:
Tabiteuea - See screen shot. I have forts at 5 with 527 AV built around 43 ID and a large CD unit.
China:
Chungking and Sian bombed by Japanese bombers while Kashgar is bombed by Allied bombers
Notes:
Ships and air are moving towards the Gilberts. Has Brian learned enough about invasions yet??

43 Sept 26: The curtain goes up as Allies move towards Gilberts in force.
Subs:
Quiet day!
SoPac:
Tanna - falls to three Marine Para and three Marine Raiders.
CenPac:
Tabiteuea - Zeros, George, Rufe protect the Nells as 3 of 7 AMs are sunk. Allies seem to have small 'leaky CAP' from CV TF two hexes away.
Tarawa - Rather than go after AF at Tabby, they hit here in two waves of 15 & 16 SBDs with 50 fighters as escort.
Gardner, Howland, and Baker Island are invaded and captured by small Allied forces.
China:
Just my bombing of Chungking and Sian.
Notes:
Screen Shot - TF1 of 2 modern BC, 4 CA, 9 DD are ordered Full Spd for Tabby as I fear a night bombardment attack. TF3 of 3 CL, 6 DD are ordered two hexes east to end up 5 west of Tabby. KB1 & 3 are ordered to follow. This will place my CVs 7 hexes away from current Allied CV force.
Broome - KB2 is reformed and ordered to Darwin to refuel before heading to Truk. A SC TF will go along.

43 Sept 27th: The CV clash that wasn't...
Subs:
[>:]
SoPac:
Tanna - Sweeps by 27 Frank at 19k shows that even 4 Spitfire and 28 Corsairs are not up to the task. Losses are 1J:5A. A second group of 27 Frank get 1J:6A in losses. Two more of 9 each find empty skies. [&o]
CenPac:
The Death Star (DS) heads east from Tabiteuea (Tabby). Has Brian declined to go up against KB and the base OR has he gathered all his TF in one hex?
China:
Sian and Kashgar get bombers again.
Notes:
N1K5-J George to 1/45 (the last of the George line), but not CV capable. So, I'll still look at the Sam for end of war CV work.
KB-1 & 3 are ordered to patrol 2 hexes due west of Tabby.

43 Sept 28th: The CV clash that was.....[;)]
Subs:
Clownfish gets 2 TT hits on xAK headed into Akutan (Aleutians) with reinforcements. She sinks later in day.
I-22 is run over and sunk by DS ASW. It get me to wonder if further production of subs are worth it. Is it?!?
Capelin sinks an E off Ominato.
SoPac:
Koumac - Franks sweep the empty skies even though over 70 fighters are there.
CenPac: Weather keeps any strikes grounded in AM phase as the two fleets are 7 hexes apart.
(141, 132 - 5 NEE of Tabiteuea) 90 George, 108 Judy, 87 Jill find a healthy CAP of 226 Wildcat (WC) & 121 Hellcat (HC). I lose 4 George, 43 Judy, and 39 Jill vs 12 WC/HC and get NO HITS on 2 CVs, 4 CVLs, 2 BB, CA, CL!!! [:@] [:@] Two more strikes of 12 Jills each are chewed up. [:(]
2 west Tabiteuea - 56 Zero, 12 Rex, and 69 George are on CAP as 5WC, 9HC, and 12 Avengers are the first strike. Losses are 1J:13A. A second strike of 15HC, 27 DBs (Helldivers and SBDs), 7 Avengers see losses as 1J:23A. Three more smaller strikes including just Avengers are also chewed up.
China:
Chungking and Kashgar are bombed. The stack SE of Ankang is reduced further.
Notes:
Air Losses are 223 (91 Jill, 78 Judy, 20 Jake, 12 George) to 165 (91 Avengers, 26 Hellcats, 39 SBD). I have 97 pilots killed.
Lesson learned!! [:-] I thought just half of KB (6 CV & 5 CVL) would be enough considering how much the Allies have lost earlier in game. Thankfully, I didn't lose any ships. The rest of KB is ordered back towards Japan and Truk. KB 1 & 3 along with the 2 SC TF are ordered back to Tulagi. Tabiteuea has all planes flown out.

Absolutely! You are going to lose. You are going to lose your navy. If you don't build your navy, you'll lose earlier. Historically, the Japanese didn't count victory points. You shouldn't either. (I don't bother with them, for what that's worth.)

And you're worried about a few subs? If you had that mentality with your planes, you would consider not building them either.

Franks are the "A" model.
Upset with myself for not having enough of KB together. Need those hundreds of planes of KB-2 & 4 in CenPac.

43 Sept 29 & 30: DS heads north, somewhat [;)]
Subs:
Amberjack fires 6 TTs at CV Hiyo (13 east of Sendai). Thankfully, they all miss!! <wipes brow in relief>
Tautog is hit twice by depth charges 2 WSW of Nagasaki.
Gato sinks a SC 2 SW of Adak.
CVs:
DS ends up 6 NEE of Tarawa on 29th & 1 due east on 30th.
KB 1 & 3 are back at Tulagi rebuilding their shattered DB & TB groups.
SoPac: [>:]
CenPac:
Tarawa - on 29th, BBs Indiana, North Carolina, and Alabama, CA, & 4 DD close the base inflicting 1618 casualties, 36 airbase, 14 supply, and 43 runway hits. Damage is 13-97-98. 25 Norm and 7 Rex are destroyed.
Tabiteuea - 26 HC escort in 15 SBD and 7 Avenger to hit my ID. He leaves the AF alone (which is a mistake in my books as my supply situation isn't getting any better)
China:
Japan bombs Sian & Chungking while Allies bomb the very far north base, Kashgar.
Notes:
While KB 2 & 4 head for Truk and Tokyo, respectfully, I observe what Brian is doing and bide my time.

Absolutely! You are going to lose. You are going to lose your navy. If you don't build your navy, you'll lose earlier. Historically, the Japanese didn't count victory points. You shouldn't either. (I don't bother with them, for what that's worth.)
I don't necessarily agree with this. The VP system is a way to make the endgame interesting for the Japanese especially, but also to see progress as the game develops. If you don't care about it you miss out on a lot of opportunities along the way to make slight gains against your opponent in ways that both hurt him, help you and contribute to VP point calculations.
Building the navy has nothing to do with winning or losing earlier. A lot of that depends on what the Allies do and how you've developed the economy and expansion in the first two years. A conservative economy can actually last quite a while if you can also militarily hold the Allies back for a bit.
That said. I like subs, even late, as the DS doesn't seem to be able to keep them all out. If they swarm they can be dangerous.
