Allied forces report all quiet at the front....

But over the defences at Soerbijou it is clear that a massive offensive is shaping up.

Patrols and prisoners indicate that fresh forces are in the line against us and a heavy bombardment is incoming as a never ending line of artillary shells and ammunitions trucks can be observed delivering supplies to the Japanese lines...

Allied formations only have supplies for one more good fight then it will be down to hand to hand ..... no one at Java army HQ is hopefull it can hold.

All remaining damaged ships have sortied bar the half sunk wreck of an old cargo vessel.

There are no mines or other munitions left to rebuild the fortifications after the last battle the only small mercy is the support from the allied fighters in the air although where they get the petrol to fight and fly no one knows.....

The end is truly in sight

A hard fought victory.

The Japanese attacked like never before not in one place but around the whole perimeter.

They gained penetrations at several points and by 12 am it looked like it was all over.

The Japanese assault took them to within 200 metres of the harbour and only 100 metres of the airfield before desperate counteraatacks by the New Zealanders and Australians of 3rd NZ Bde and the 22nd Australian Bde forced them back from the Port and a counter attack led by Sikh and Ghurka troops of the amalgamated 6/15/28th Indian Bde pushed them back at the airstrip.

Vicious hand to hand combat ensued everywhere.

Despite best efforts the outer perimeter is lost and one more hard push will finish the defences.

6/1528th Indian, 3rd NZ and 22nd Australian are wrecked following the suicidal counterattacks to regain even the inner perimeter.

The Japanese rain down a torrent of artillary shells throughout the day while the last artillary of the Java Army fires the last of its shells then the gunners spike the guns.

Only the 2 pounders of the AT regiments have ammo left and rifleman are down to 30 rounds per man.

Most Dutch formations are completely out of ammo and the lack of consistancy amongst allied ammo requirements between US/Commonwealth and Dutch forces means what little ammo there is of limited use.

At present the Dutch are more or less using captured Japanese artillary and infantry weapons but there is limited ammo for even these weapons.

Allied GHQ in Australia orders all code books and cypher destroyed and the Diggers Kiwis Indians Yanks Dutch and Pommies all watch despairingly as the fighters that had fought so long to keep the air friendly depart the airbase following the Japanese Artillary making the airfield untennable.

One more push and its over....

Somehow the perimeter holds no one knows how as the daylight fades on the 11th June 1942 the inner perimeter holds.

The airfield is a wreck and thousands of bodies lie everywhere but somehow they held for one more day.

Instructions come from Wavell at SEAC command Alexander is to depart by Flying Boat tonight he will be needed elsewhere

General Peirse takes over command of the perimeter.

Barely 80,000 men are left and those still standing are mostly cooks and clerks.

Three preciosu badly damaged ammo ships arrived this morning with the dawn.

It was the ammunition rushed from these US transports to the Phillipino composite division the Northern sector of the line that defeated todays thrust.

How the Japanese soldier can go on attacking like this is beyond allied comprehension day after day they come and day after day the allies hold.

It will soon be over.

General Pierse has orders to surrender his command in the event of a breach to the inner line.

The siege of Soerbijou began on 26th May 1942 just over two weeks later the end is nigh

Elsewhere the allied attack north of Moulmien repulses a Japanese attack but despite the combat report indicating the Japanese retreat they dont.

(If this is a bug that loses me my blocking force at Moulmien because they cannot retreat despite having won the combat on their line of retreat I am going to be very very annoyed at this game)

Me and my opponent have just experienced this at Mouleim. We thought it was a bug, but then we discovered how to do it. Just set the destination hex on a base you hold, let's say Mandalay. Your guys will retreat smoothly. If you select a normal hex, their movement will be turned to zero the turn after. Dunno why but it's like that

hope this helps

Java Campaign ends

Post by sveint »

Soerabaja falls. The Java campaign is in real terms over (one last city with a couple units remain). For Japan it has been 2 months of long, hard and slow combat. Ten of our divisions with accompanying elements were used and will need some major rest.

I am really not sure how much offensive capability the Empire has left, knowing that wherever I'd go the Allies would be prepared. Still, it seems there is a large amount of troops still holding Rangoon and the surrounding area. And that means those troops are not elsewhere...

Alas General Pierse has surrendered....

The brave men of the Java Army Group are no more.

(Looks like Alexander cut it a little fine to bug out)

I expect after a short refit period that Rangoon will be next against 10 Divisions it will be hard to hold.

Fortunately I have replaced Commonwealth troops in Burma with Chinese so India is secure.....

p.s. the first Spitfire Sqn became operational at an undisclosed location with 70 exp pilots.

muhahahaha

A full inquiry will be launched as the debacle on Java was partly caused by the piss poor planning of my logistics staff who forward deployed 100,000 tonnes of supply to Djojakarta on the day I abandoned the base.

As this was 90% of the supplies on the Island I had to evac all my Level Bombers as I did not have the supply to maintain them.

I am going to have them shot for incompetence as many brave men died for their mistake.

(The game must allow us better control of supplies than this !!!! a base I knew I was going to abandon days before I did at the last minute got all the supplies I had left on the island as my army retreated through it..... the supply routine has cost me a months resistance on Java I had 2 gps of B25s plus other heavy bomber forces ready to help defend the south and could not use them I would still have lost I am sure but the lack of adequate supplies ended resistance much earlier than I would have liked and at much less cost to Sveint.)

Not a busy turn a few raids Allied heavies at Rangoon pound another Ground unit.

Getting decet xp for my heavies which will hurt the Japanese later I just wish I had a few B25 Gps to gain xp as well.

Overall a turn of redeployment and counting to cost of the Java Battle.

Working out which units are to brought back up to strength.

Basically the Indian Bdes are shot to hell and will not be re built.

US and Dutch Engineering artillary and armour will be rebuilt

ANZAC Infantry are to be brought up to strength.

The next decision to be made is will I defend timor or not.

I have the airpower in north Aurstralia to hurt anyone heading that way.

Andy

Japanese CV's spotted near Borneo using the last of my fleeing transports as taget practice.

Unfortunately they will steer clear of Koepang which has 150 Heavy/ Medium and Torpedo Bombers backed by large numbers of fighters.

He will massacre a few small convoys and probably back off until he is ready to fight an invasion force through.

I think this is opportunistic picking off of convoys as getting a couple of bomb hits on CV's of the last thing Sveint needs until the time comes to finish timor off.

I have no real idea at this point what the Japanese will do next.

Burma certainly
India maybe but despite the intel provided above I doubt it.
Port Moresbey or Nomou or a few Cent Pac islands are possible.

I just dont know which way he will go next.

(He may just go defensive !!)

My carrier philosophy is simple: They exist only to sink enemy warships. Under no circumstances will they risk attacks by land-based dive or torpedo bombers. Nor will they ever be used to attack anything but enemy warships.
