To the bitter end, sveint(J) vs McPhie(A)

Post by sveint »

(READER NOTICE: I write this as an AFTER action report - no info on current TFes and plans; sorry! you get those after the action).

Japanese SITREP - January 4, 1942

There is no way to hide it but our surprise attacks in early december were not a success. No battleships or carriers sunk, Wake not taken and severe merchant losses in the landings near Singapore. (Player note: This was my first PBEM and I went with a mostly historical start. For a GREAT start see another upcoming AAR of me against a different Allied player).

Since then however, things are looking up. The attack on Singapore is culminating on schedule, the Philippines are falling and merchant raiding has been very successful. KB is currently raiding Phillipine waters. And possibly the biggest success to date is in China where we are making major progress. Our advance in the Southern Pacific is also unopposed, but it seems a battle looms as the Australians reinforce Port Moresby.

OK I guess I will follow on fron Sveints AAR entry.

This is an unusual PBEM for me I hope to Sveints misfortune.

My plan is to run run and then run some more....

In this one I am avoiding a fight wherever possible.

I anticipate Singapore falling a month early as I made a mistake and tried to fight in Northern Malaya. To many of my units got chewed up to hold.

So far I seem set at Clark Field and I am deciding where to hold in Manila Bataan or stick it out at Clark.

No decision as yet the next turn will make that decision for me.

So far I have suffered no major losses that I cannot replace but he is starting to get close to vitals where I will have to risk units or run the risk of getting hurt bad..

My focus is on concentrating forces into good sized blocks that can hold back the tide.

Only time will tell how successful I am.

I have at least two really nasty surprises under preparation for Sveint which I hope he hasnt picked up yet

Operation Jumper should be come apparent in about 4 days to Sveint

[:D][:D]

Operation Sellers will take about 3 weeks I hope before it hits home.

Hi, To avoid the smaller units arriving first. When ordering a movement to enemy hex select large unit and order to move use the follow command and all units in hex will follow the first unit ordered. The stack will move together and all units will enter the hex at same time. Go through the stack after giving the order and set any unit you want to remain behind back to defend.

So far my runaway tactics seem to be working out.

Operation Jumper is nearly complete. I estimate Sveint should be aware of it any turn now.

A new operation is being considered by Allied High Command.

Little will be said of it beyond the codename....Operation Laphroig.

I estimate it will take 6 weeks to bring to fruition If I can assemble the required shipping.

Last turn I lost track of KB again this worries me as all of my operations depend on knowing where KB is.

Allied carriers are concentrating for their part in Operation Sellers.

I suspect Allied strength will allow me to initiate either Sellers or Laphroig but not both although i am splitting Sellers into Sellers A and Sellers B. Sellers A will proceed without CV support Sellers B probably will not.

Elsewhere the assault on IJA troops that advanced piecemeal into Clark was a total success. Thus emboldened Allied HQ orders MacArthur to hold Clark at all costs...(although we all know what an insubordinate SOB he is so you never know)

>Last turn I lost track of KB again

What I assume to be operation Jumper was indeed spotted last turn.

Currently the Japanese high command are very happy with events. Seems The Allies are not content with running but will actually come out and fight. This should benefit us in the first half of 1942.

Quiet turn Japanese advance units hit Singapore.

Operation Jumper is clearly compromised now but I think even if hit now it will be a success.

Convoys SC4 SC5 and SC6 are assembling in west Coast Ports.

West Coast command orders all ASW gps to see.

Routing and destination of these convoys are classified TOP SECRET.

CS1 and CS2 are returning to the West Coast Ports in near future.

Operation Jumper is complete. Remaining Engineering Units will stand and get wiped to damage facilities.

The evac of Singapore has been a success from a process oint of view with only one fatality the ships dog on board HMS Glasgow fell overboard in the Malacca Straight....

For the 1st time in PBEM I have abandoned Singapore it is now early January and I will lose it any day.

But it gives me 12 Full Strength Brigades to deploy elsewhere.

Now I have plans for those forces.

If I am to try and hold Burma I will need to transfer at least 4 to India to provide rear area security by doing so I can forward deploy 18th UK Div to Mandalay. i.e. off the rail net.

Alternatively I could shift all 12 down to Oz/SoPAC and use them for an early Island hopping campaign or scatter them through out DEI to slow down conquest of DEI

2 Aussie Bdes at Palembang would be fun ....

I also need to be aware that Sveint will gain 6 weeks out of my decision to abandon Singapore (4 weeks early take of Singapore) and 2 weeks as he wont need to rest or refit the Singapore Divisions

It will be very interesting to see which is more valuable 12 Brigades or 6 weeks

(Anyone got anysuggestions as to what I should do with these troops..

(I have plans in place but would be interested in what others who have abandoned Singapore have done)

A few small base captures and a lot of my forward supply convoys getting beat up from the air.

I need some more fighter cover for these wee convoys.

Singapore will fall next day.

Following his disagreement with the run away strategy employed by Commonwealth Forces in Malaya General Percival has resigned and been replaced by General Peirse.

Singapore falls but there is a minor landing of Allied troops in Kuala Lumpur. I wonder what is going on...? Either way they will soon be prisoners building my new Indian railroad.

Ach you noticed my Commandoes cunningly concealed as members of 12Indian Bgde

Just ignore them honest they aint there to do anything....

<whistles innocently>

One question Sveint why did you let me evacuate so many troops out of Singapore without contesting it by air ?

A squadron of Betties or Nells would have made mincemeat of my transports and my fighter cover was only Buffaloes ....

OK the plan is now set for the next stage.

I will be using all of those 12 Bgd in my cunning plan.

Operation Laphroig has now been postponed indefinately and replaced by Operation Talisker.

Watch this space for more details

Actually Sveint the 12 Indian Bde Commandoes are a trick I learned from one of Kids AAR's as a way of keeping a Japanee player honest about rear area deployments.

Occasional sub aunched (or when I get em para borne) raids to out of the way bases or behind the lines just to test that they have been garrisoned.

Nothing worse than losing that oil or resource site to Alllied saboteurs and losing 50% of capacity [:D][:D][:D][:D]

Lets face it with their lousy torpedoes its about all my US sub force is good for at the moment.[:@][:@]

Another slow turn not much happening apart from a few of my forward base supply convoys getting hurt.

China is looking a little dodgy at the moment.

At this stage its all Logistics Logistics Logistics and

Concentration Concentratio Concentration.

I have one major operation under way involving an undeclared number of Allied CV's the others in theatre have other duties.

Oz is looking a little vulnerable but a convoy is one day out of an undeclared Aus harbour that should fix that problem.

>One question Sveint why did you let me evacuate so many troops out of Singapore without contesting it by air ?

Your fighter coverage from Singapore was causing more damage than I deemed worthwhile. My goal was to secure Singapore as soon as possible - so in fact I was happy to see you evacuate. Bombing transports might have convinced you to stay.

Hmmm may have abandon Moulmein soon if those extra Jap formations come North.

Of greater worry is the fact that Allied High COmmand has not got a clue where the main Japanese strike force is.

Allied forces prepare for the worst.
