The nightly raids against russel island continue today, this time his defending havocs actually shoot down a Nick
His subs are now getting bold, prowling around Truk
Russell is getting stronger by the day, my troops weaker every day as well, he now has P39s moved in on barge patrol, I tried to sneak a handful in today - no go, the blockade is tighter than a fishes bum.
I have just very,very small numbers of oscars and zeros flying over russell,and sweeping lunga and irau, this has been a deliberate tactic - they get shot down , but he is having 30 corsairs, and wildcats on CAP every day for the week, what , I think, is their fatigue level now.
Well, Ill find out soon.

I want to shock wobbly - another bluff really, I hope to hit russell with KB, and about 100 betties all in one turn - and let him think - gee, just how strong are the Japs - I better delay my next attack until I have more stuff.

Munda recieves a lot of fighters to support them.

The usual dropping of eggs and loss of sleep forenemy troops on Russell
The BB Hyuga sweeps into the place, escorted by 4 dds, and surprise the PTs guarding the island, 1 is sunk, then 4 more try to attack, 3 sunk, and I get away scott free for a change, after a dissapointing naval bombardment
40 mitchells, and 30 corsairs tangle over russell with a scattering of oscara and zeros, only 2 zeros lost
LESSON - Fatigue the corsairs- some how, anyhow, and they are not uber weapons.
But how to fatigue them[:(]
Then the betties fly - to irau[8|][:'(][:)]
11 betties- 9 corsairs - 9 attack, a hit on a APD
3 Betties - 9 corsairs -3 attack - miss
107 [:D] betties -9 corsairs -101 attack - 7 tankers are hit, 3 will sink, the rest are crippled.
Flak is a killer.
overall wobbly says 54 betties shot down, I forgot to look, and it feels right. ( I claim 15 shot down -23 damaged)
I check the squadrons - all about half strength in planes, but all of them seem to have squillioins of very experienced pilots (I did disband a lot earlier on), so at some stage next month I have another shot in the locker.
So hopefully he might have been reminded that I have teeth still[:'(]
If i cannott hit CVs, then Ill take the tankers, that might crimp him a bit.

We are waiting on reinforcements.
Nightly, daily bombing, Im sure he is building again, Im waiting on more ships, gathering at Truk for the next effort.

so the plan has to be this, KB and CAs to buna, pick up units there, and then we try to counter attack

Corsairs fly over the place as well.
I think, really the back of my resistance is broken.....
BUT, the navy lives, soon i will have 11 CAs, and a full strength KB.
Im going to try for 1 last operation , 11 days until the ships arrive

I am pulling all my air temporarily[8|] back to rabual
Buna is packed with shipping, picking up troops.
having trapped so many troops at Lunga with his russell attack -wobbly won this war -only just, but it was enough
But I intend to make him bleed some more yet
3 days, and KB sails, a new plan is in my mind - another go deep into his territory.
Wonder how far south I can sail KB without being spotted.[;)]

And i cancel the buna evacuation, some poor stragglers are left onthe beach, his LBA scored another 4 APs -despite the LRCAP.
Thats too much, and I need these fighters for the 2cvs coming tomorrow

More minesweeping at tulgia, folowed by a naval pounding
And my APs now south of gasmatta, are hit by a medium sized carrier strike, 4 are hit
Shortland is hit, and buin is reconned
Its pretty clear what is coming, a landing to buin, to leapfrog and cut off yet more troops.
Little I can do about it, at least rabual has a reasonable number of troops now
My counter today, ordered a bucket load of planes to port moresby -a risk -a big one, but it might surprise him
KB -5cv,3cvl and 4ca finally sails, 1st port of call will be the LEA area, then down the coast, to Gilli, gilli, then a deep strike at his supply lines.
Simultanouesly, Tanaka will attack -I hope KB will get the stream of damaged ships that will result

A little CVE, and Hosho will wave the flag way out east.
And the 2 CS ships are going to do a very, very desperate mission.
